It was hard to handle your own thoughts when you were bombarded constantly to be asked if you were alright. Tara hadn’t even come to terms with everything and she was expected to know how she felt? She knew she was shattered, that much was certain.
Eugene opened the gates to Alexandria to allow Tara access out of the not-so-safe community. She had uncharted territory to discover, and it was a nice excuse to get away. She needed space; she needed time.
She drove the rusted car into a little town that had been circled on their supply map- no one had gone yet, hadn’t even scoped it out for walkers, but Tara would take her chances.
She parked the vehicle and stepped out, her eyes squinting against the sun as her skin baked in the heat. There was a boarded up building, with a dusty patio. She would start here.
Tara had managed to get herself in through the back door, but she had skipped an important step- she forgot to knock on the windows to draw any hidden walkers out. Her thoughts had distracted her as she walked to the heart of the building. It wasn’t until she heard thunderous gurgling that she knew she had royally messed up.
