Where was this coming from all of a sudden?

His eye twitched, the rest of his being so still as if to tease his teetering insides. Choking back a gasp, Saruhiko forced his lids to lock, his hand coming suddenly to shield his own forehead-- he’d never be able to drown this out. 

He’d never be able to silence his own scrutiny, negate his own neglect.

Graveyard

drabble list thing: ‘Graveyard: My character will visit your characters grave.’

The air stung, wind whipping traumatic truths straight into the trembling, brittle bones of somebody who only ever wanted to forget.

But forgetting— disremembering— now, wasn’t just some self-pitying ruse. This wasn’t some sorry, sarcastic game anymore. There wasn’t anybody there to even watch him lose anymore. He hadn’t gotten close, and now he never would.

Misaki was away, out of sight, not with him…

Misaki was dead.

Knuckles whitened around the bouquet Saruhiko had so carefully picked. Among the ivory, thorns of a single red rose drew blood from the palm of his hand with a slow, mocking drip. He didn’t wince; instead, a tear fell fearlessly alongside the red. Perhaps his water could cultivate the corpse beneath his feet…  

What a joke–

This all must have been some sick joke. Kings, powers, auras— none of it was real. He must have fallen asleep. He’d wake up any minute now to that copper grin. The pair would have wandered, coming home with two sodas in each hand. The loft’s lights would be off; Yata would go searching for his stupid fucking skateboard only to realize it was always under his mattress—

Drip.

Gray clouded his eyes; the wind stole a chrysanthemum.

Drip.

This must have been a bug in one of his programs.

Drip.

Did they get too immersed in a video game?

A breath broke— when had he stopped breathing?

“Tch—” his chin dipped, glasses falling forward as his own tears distorted the crimson on the ground. His hand stung— this was real.

“You just had to go and leave me again.”
