In the TV series Sleepy Hollow (2013) Ichabod Crane is awakened after 250 years of slumber to unravel the mystery of the Headless Horseman once again, aided by police detective Abbie Mills.

Disney's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" was released in 1949 as part of the double animated feature Ichabod and Mr. Toad.

Episode 0: Defining Historical Horror

Our first full episode on June 16th focuses on Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." There have been so many great interpretations of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" over the years so, in the days leading up to the episode's release, we thought we'd mention a few of our favorites.

Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow, released in 1999 is a moody, gothic interpretation filled with gorgeous visuals and picture-perfect costumes by Colleen Atwood. Although it does deviate quite a bit from the original (Ichabod Crane in the film is a detective, investigating the murders surrounding the village of Sleepy Hollow), it's chock-full of references to the original story and real-world historical events.
