I’m seeing a lot, obviously, about the approaching half time show and a lot about Bad Bunny himself saying people don’t need to learn Spanish to enjoy it they just need to dance, and while that’s true I do unironically think it is a net positive that his winning the Grammys and giving his incredible speech and being announced as the performer is driving more people to learn the language. Not even just because of the current climate of the US but because learning languages is good for all kinds of things and people should be encouraged to learn more.

KILL AI AND REBLOG AND CREATE ART IN 2026
With 16 nominations, Sinners makes history as the most Oscar-nominated film of all time.
Sinners is breaking and setting Oscar nomination records, which is great and indescribably deserved, and will ostensibly be the first thing to get me to actually watch the Oscars in years.
Just yesterday I finished Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle and I expected it to be good based on some talk I’d heard on its release, but it’s my first Chuck Tingle book at all and I was happily blown away. I am pretty sure it’s the first thing I’ve read in a while, if ever, with an ace heroine. So that’s fun too.
But really what a wonderful little fuck you to AI in the creative space and what a love letter to queer stories writ large.
Welcome to Derry was such an interesting viewing experience for me because there was so much about it that was frustrating and occasionally seemed a little needlessly much, and I did fall into the trap they set of being increasingly more upset the more episodes passed before Pennywise showed up (because I love Bill’s portrayal and always want to see more of it).
But the longer I stew on it the more I am leaning toward it being a wildly effective piece of media for the story and point it was trying to tell, that is baked into the book so deeply.
There are elements and entire episodes that were so deeply troubling on, like, current societal levels that I can speak to all I want, but my voice doesn’t matter as much as those of the Black and POC audience engaging with it, and this has been the first show in a while that I a) was consuming along with everyone at the same time, more or less, because of the weekly release format and b) saw engaging conversation on every week.
It’s my favorite part of television, and media in general. Also, Rich Delgado my sweet prince.
Found out by way of a discord that Mark Z Danielewski has dropped another Tome into the world, approximately last week on October 28. Must needs discover if it too is a multivisual experience.
In my ongoing quest to own the tech that I buy AND make life easier for me and my less-tech-literate friends and family (I love you, please stop calling me at midnight to fix your latest virus you got from Temu), I have a couple more links for programs you should use on a Windows machine that 1) do not have ads embedded in them, 2) do not use AI or AI scrapers, and 3) are free and super easy to download and use. That last one is important when you are The Tech Person in your social sphere.
1. Don't use Notepad, it has AI and Discovery bullshit embedded in it. (Link is to Microsoft's website describing these new "features," date Oct 2025).
Alternative I like: Notepad++ (essentially, old school Notepad preserved for modern use, open source program).
2. Don't use Microsoft Word/Office (and most of us will be forced out of it soon anyway to Microsoft 365 CoPilot, which is full of AI, AI scrapers, ads, and other malware these days. Seriously, they call it "vibe working" and if you read between the upbeat corporate speak, its awful. (Links are to ZDNET, GeekWire, and Ars Technica, and also it's plastered all over Microsoft's Office homepage).
Alternative I like: LibreOffice - pretty much feels like old-school Microsoft Office without...all that.
Bonus: Office Watch has a list of free alts. Choose your fighter.
Anyway. Just some things to do after you have debloated Windows.
And yes, Linux Nation, I know we could all just get Linux. We could all be doing crossfit, too. My elderly parents are not going to do crossfit, and they are not going to get Linux. But maybe, just maybe, I can get them to scrape off some of the ad-bloated AI-scraping malware from the computer where they access their bank. Little by little, we fight back.
