“I guess not,” responded Josh with a casual shrug of his shoulders, watching the kids for a moment long. “Maybe… but if I start giving up hours, I don’t have the money to look after him and my dream of opening a restaurant go down the drain.”
“Oh,“ she said solemnly, wishing she could figure out someway to help him. Finally, something came to her. “Maybe sometimes, I could watch him for you, so you could take naps and stuff. I wouldn’t mind.“

Calliope didn’t normally get stage fright, but being put on the spot, even if that wasn’t what Daisy was trying to do, always made her feel a little anxious. “I don’t know, lady. Could I just show you one of the videos we made of my bandie or something?“

Calliope noticed the man dancing with his daughter and smiled. She and Little Bear still danced together all the time. It was one of their favorite things to do together. “How old is your Little Smunch,“ she asked him, still smiling brightly.

“Of course I have,“ he grinned, “I actually got a job. So I’m working a lot now, earning money, you now, living a good life.“
“Yay! That’s super good. Where do you work? I promise I’ll come visit and give you lots of tips and stuff.“

“Oh, sorry! Didn’t mean to startle you. No, I was just looking up lesser known songs to sing at open mic nights and stuff, and I found that one. I didn’t want to do the usual stuff, you know, not that there’s anything wrong with it but I just wanted to stand out a little more.”
“No, that’s OK, lady. I just get jumpy sometimes, ‘specially when it’s not really loud,“ she told her, shrugging slightly. “You do open mic nights? That’s super cool. I’ve never really done one before, unless singing at the bonfire counts. I think it’s probably a better idea to sing rare songs instead of ones people know,“ she agreed. “I don’t know if I know many rare songs, though.“

“Thank you, Mister. It’s called Come Wander with Me. It’s from this old TV show my sister and my best friendie like. The Twilight Zone.“

Lorelai had just been walking through the park, trying to get some much needed fresh air and clear her mind of all the stress she’s been under recently. When she heard the woman singing, she couldn’t help but stop to listen for a moment. “You have a very nice voice.” Lori complimented with a small smile. “What song was that?”
Calliope looked up at the woman who complimented her and smiled, saying, “Thank you, Lady. it’s called Come Wander with Me. It was in an episode of that old-timey show, The Twilight Zone I haven’t been able to get it out of my head since I heard it.“

“I knew I’ve heard it before, it’s beautiful”, he shrugged. “Uh, it’s Brayden. Just Brayden, no need to mister me. I didn’t wanna interrupt.”
“it is super beauteous. I never heard a song like it before. I think that’s why I like it so much.“ She nodded slightly. She’d heard pretty folks songs before, but this one stood out somehow, but she couldn’t pinpoint it. “Oh, I’m sorry. People don’t really like it when I call them Mister and stuff, but it’s hard to stop cause I been doing it so long,“ she said a little embarrassed. “I’m Calliope. It’s nice to meet you, M-... Brayden.“

“While that’s true, I just think you have a beautiful voice and more people would pay attention to it if you had a rock god singing beside you.” Wade teased back. “That’s good to hear. Your voice deserves to be heard.”
“I think you’re a butt,“ she teased. “I hope people watch the videos, but I don’t know. I’m still not sure this is gonna work and stuff.” She was constantly having doubts about whether this was the right thing to do or if her band would work out. Even with how easy it was to be heard these days, if it always worked then everyone would be in a band.

Friendie? He let the word slide around on his tongue for a moment, smiling. That’s adorable, he thought to himself. “It’s a really nice guitar. I do play, actually, but the only place I sing is in the shower.” He chuckled. “And for being entirely rude, who’s this?” He gestured to the younger.
“Thank you, Mister.“ She smiled up at him brightly. Nowadays, Calliope really enjoyed having nice conversations with strangers, and making new friends. She’d never expected that to be the case, but it was a welcome change from being anxious about it, “How come? Singing is the best, and I bet you’re a great singer.“ Diona was too busy putting her new framing abilities in Minecraft to use to introduce herself like she normally would’ve a this point. “Her name’s Diona. She’s four. And I’m Calliope. It’s nice to meet you, Mister.“
“You’re lucky. But I guess that bribing with cake is the way to go,” Josh laughed. Honestly, he’d done his best not to start bribing his son with desserts, but it was bound to happen one day. “Sleepy?” he repeated thoughtfully, though he supposed if she’d been busy it made sense. “I know the feeling. And the same really, working way too much, if I’m honest.”

“I don’t know if lucky’s the right word,“ she said with a small shrug. Diona certainly wasn’t. “Maybe you should try and get less hours or something, so you can sleep more,“ she suggested, nodding. Of course, she didn’t know if that was actually possible for him but it was all she could think of.

“Is that from the The Twilight Zone?” he said with a frown, after a lot of back and forth on whether or not he should bother her. He had definitely heard the song before, but she was having a moment with the kid. He wasn’t supposed to interrupt. “Sorry. You have a nice voice.”
“Uh-huh,“ Calliope said, smiling over at the stranger. “I don’t watch the show much, but I think the song is super pretty. Thank you, Mister. You don’t have to apologize, though.“

At her words, Josh looked back to her and shook his head, then murmured, “Absolutely no point. He’ll only keep doing it, the only difference is I can grab him from here, and that’s just annoying for the both of us.” He chuckled lightly, idly drawing in the sand with his fingertip. “So how have you been?”
“Oh. Little Bear doesn’t try to run off like that anymore. Mostly cause she knows she won’t get any cake if she does.“ Calliope nodded and laughed a little. “I’ve been sleepy,“ she told him honestly. Between work and her music and, chiefly, being a mother, she got very little these days. Not that she ever got much. “But it’s OK, I guess. I’m used to it. What about you?“

“I’ve never watched that, but I’ll be sure to give it a chance.” He smiled over at her. “What kind of guitar is that? Standard Fender?” He tried to get a look at the head stock. “I have a black Ibanez at home.”
“My sister and my best friendie love it. I thought it was kind of scary.... But I liked the song a lot.“ She looked down at her guitar and said, “Oh, it’s just a Gibson thingie. My sister got it for me. You play too? Do you sing lots?“

Since he had left the hospital a few days ago, Luis was making a point of at least getting out to walk a little bit during the day, even if he could barely make it one block. He was thankful for the nearby bench and even more thankful when he turned and heard a familiar voice and saw a familiar face. “Calli..? You’re back?!”
Calliope, who had been mending some of Ransom and Frankie’s clothes but didn’t want to be cooped up in the house while she did it, nearly pricked herself with her sewing needle when she hear Luis’ voice. “Luis!” she cried jumping up to hug him, but she stopped when she saw he was her. The big smile on her face instantly turned into a frown, one that already looked like she wa on the verge of tears. “What happened to you?“

“Oh wow, you’re a really good singer!“ Daisy smiled, “How come I never knew you were this good a singer?“
“Oh. I don’t know. I always sing all the time.“ Calliope shrugged. “Just ask Little Bear. ...’Cept she’s not really paying attention to anything right now,“ she commented, looking over at her daughter, who’d just learned how to farm in MInecraft a few days ago.

He had glanced at her every so often for quite a while, transfixed on her voice and the little one’s attentiveness, it almost seemed foreign. Placing his newspaper down, he simply listened, smiling precariously. “You’ve got a beautiful voice. What song is that?”
Even if this was a park and there were more than a few people around, Calliope hadn’t really expected anyone to be listening specifically to her. She blushed slightly as the man spoke and said, “Thank you, Mister. It’s called Come Wander with Me. I don’t know who it’s by. But it’s from an episode of The Twilight Zone, so there’s that.“
