Blushing a little at the fact that he had just called her pretty, Natalie nodded along with his explanation, âGreat, thank you so muchâŠâ She paused at the end of the phrase suggesting she wanted to know his name.
"Joaquin", he said with a nod. "You want me to carry the boxes to the car?"
âAh, thank you,â she said with a giggle. âWell, the sign should do the work, since I canât stand out all day. I gotta work to pay the bills. So, mister, are you looking for a new favorite item?â
"You sure about that. You get someone at the register and you stand here, all that sunshine's gonna pull anyone in. Best promo you can get", he said. "You got anything new in lately?"
âOh, you definitely need to do that, I promise Iâm all fun and shit when Iâm like, really drunk. Depends on what you mean by âmonogamousâ.â
"Fun and shit is just my type. Am I ordering you nothing but Jack through the night?"
âSurprise me, guapito.â

Giving him a quick smile she nodded at his order. âNeat. The way I prefer it too.â Grabbing a glass from under the bar she turned quickly and poured him out the drink. Turning back she placed it on the bar in front of him. Katherine gave him one nod in answer to his question. âYeah, I started about a week ago now. You must be the DJ here.â Katherine definitely recognised him, but they hadnât had the chance to actually meet yet, she had only been shown around to the other bar staff.Â
"It's the right way to drink tequila", Joaquin said. "Unless we're talking 100 % Agave. That shit is meant to be sipped." Enough rounds with some Mexicans and he couldn't do the salt and lime routine anymore. "Joaquin", he said with a nod. "Glad to be putting a face to the name, and it's even a pretty one."

âIâm really sorry to bother you, but did you by any chance find a cell phone over here when you sat down? I think I dropped it when I was getting up to leave.â

"Shit we got old", he said. "It was pure talent and public humiliation for the rest of us. Simpler times." He was a little surprised she was talking about this, or about anything at all. He might have to liquor her up again for it to happen twice. "Hey now, I gotta think who I associate myself with. Everything I do is a calculated move."
âYou really think this is the first night I declare a drink as my boyfriend? Because thatâs happened before. Except this time itâs more of a âJack and I have been spending so many nights together over the past couple of weeks, that drink and I definitely have a deeper connection going onâ-kind of thing, yâknow?â

"Mentally you are", Joaquin said. He snorted and shook his head. "Man, I'm still baffled how did you ever even qualify to telling people how to live their lives."
