The Luxembourg Empire Tiara

History/Description: Very little is known about the provenance of the tiara, but it is believed to have emerged in the 19th century. The tiara was first introduced in 1919, when Grand Duchess Charlotte wore it to the wedding ceremony to  Prince Felix of Bourbon-Parma. 

There is quite a bit of speculation as to origin of the tiara: one speculation is that the jewels came from Grand Duchess Elizabeth Mikhailovna of Russia. Elizabeth, the wife of Charlotte’s grandfather is believed to have brought some of the Romanvos jewels with her when she married. 

The second speculation is that the jewels came from Charlotte’s aunt Hilda, who is believed to have left some jewels for the Grand Duchess and her sister, also named Hilda (and who also wore the tiara on her wedding day).
