Personal thoughts on the portraits? We’ve waiting a long while for them. Did they exceed your expectations? 🥰
I LOVE them, they must look amazing in person.
Felipe's portrait is a clear throwback to his ancestors portraits. Letizia's portrait with the natural light and the dramatic Balenciaga cloches is magnificent on its own but the diptych as intended... It exceeds all my expectations. It almost looks like a painting, the composition, the lighting from one portrait to the other, the unmistakable influence of Velázquez and the Austrias, the neo baroque style...

King Felipe and Queen Letizia, at the Gasparini Room at the Royal Palace, inspired by the Court Portraits of Velázquez. The King wears the Gala Uniform of the Army and the Queen a dress and shawl by Balenciaga, on loan from a private foundation. The shawl was made for one guest at the wedding of King Juan and Queen Sofía. The Queen is wearing a necklace and earrings from the "passing jewels" of the Queens of Spain.
