good(?) news from the hacking discord

it turns out pet sprites have a flavor adjective set in the game’s engine: they use previously unknown values 16 (for catz) and 18 (for dogz), which are not used by any toyz, so apparently those are just Cat Flavor and Dog Flavor

petz can groom each other, so i guess it makes sense that they would have a “flavor” set like any other sprite, given most toyz have a flavor since they can be chewed.

i am curious now about flavors 19-22, which also aren’t used by any toyz but are in the middle of ones that are, since this means they might be assigned to other non-toy sprites. maybe one of them is the cursor, since they can lick that too?

A Couple Of Chill Days With The Drakenz

Yeah, no double post. Was busy yesterday so there wasn't much to take note of and today was laidback so I'll be posting about both days in this post.

Funny enough, as of yesterday Malta now has actual claws after seeing a sneak peek of them the day before! To celebrate she gets a whole hunk of beef steak. Yummy!

Panther also now has fully visible claws, so he gets a whole, fresh fish to celebrate!

I took the two to Arabia yesterday, although I turned off host characters since I'm giving the two chances to see if they'll breed on their own.

No lie, the snake basket was my main reason for taking the two to Arabia. They may find (one of) their inspiration sources too scary but I love snakes!

Err... Way too scary, apparently.

Fun fact: Olives are fish flavored. Or, at least, they share the same flavor value as fish. For some reason. No surprise Panther kept staring at the olive tray during the trip, which they both did get some olives (although the less energetic Malta definitely got less olives, that girl's getting a bit chunky).

Can also say me and the drakez have bonded well, Panther gave me a licking even while he had that Arcanine in his mouth! Sweet creatures!

By the next day I see more signs of further development, not only has Panther started growing a little nose horn but it seems the both of them will grow spiky backs! Impressive!

For today, the Drakenz get to hang out in the Fantasy castle. Although Panther was pretty sus of the Knight. Can't say I'm surprised, they've grown big enough to look like they're ready to pillage a princess and kidnap a village!

And yet, despite appearances, they're the same goofballz I had since they were tiny, tiny li'l wyrms! Admittedly, my attention today was mostly elsewhere while I had Petz running but the two were more interested in playing together rather than stuff like fetching. I had the Auto Ball out to try and get Malta more active but it was Panther who showed the most interest in it and, even then, he wasn't that enthusiastic over it. Kind of surprised, considering it's the Auto Ball! But what did grab their attention?

Catnip.

Of course.

Double Drakenz Post Part 2!

This day was a busy one so I put the pupz away to the Petz PC to just have a day with the drakenz. Interestingly, as much as I thought Malta was likely to just grow bigger and nothing else I put her in a tiger costume to prepare for another trip to the circus (because the thought of using pets in wild animal costumes performing tricks with the clowns and other performers is a lot cuter of the thought of using real wild animals) and she wound up with claws somehow!

The claws don't show up when she's not wearing socks or "footie pajamas" so it seems wearing the right clothes shows a glimpse of the future. At least I know she won't be completely plain later on!

As can be seen here, Panther also appears to grow claws as well but they aren't properly visible yet either. And, as can be seen here, they've been given another day to play with Misha!

And they don't appear to like Misha much anymore. Like, Panther is okay with Misha but not really all that enthused. Malta, on the other hand, just could not stand him at all! How strange... Is this something about Petz 5 that I don't understand?

Despite the soured relationship it did make their interactions more amusing, these two would tug at and argue over everything! This is a cat toy but if one had something the other wanted it anyway!

No surprise, Malta won most of those tug-o-wars.

After a while things started to die down so I added a jack-o-lantern, see how everyone reacted. Malta, of course, did not like it. Nobody did! Misha and Panther bravely stood up to the scary gourd but, eventually, Misha lost nerve and started fleeing the eerie pumpkin. Panther, however, may have some cat software in him but it was no tender-footed pussy-cat! He stayed brave the entire time, even grabbing and shaking the offending vegetable!

And with quite the eventful day, night would soon draw over the circus tent and it would be time for the drakenz to head back home.

Double Drakenz Post Part 1!

Things have been busy on my end so I have a little backlog of the two's activities to share! I will be posting about the past two days and save today and tomorrow as another double post (if I can)!

I'll also be holding off on past posting for now since I don't want to spam post even if my "mascot" might suggest otherwise.

First thing to note: Panther now has actual horns! Instead of stick-ly little antennae, he's got proper horns! Even if they're also little just little sticks.

And for this day, my two Drakenz got to meet a couple of pupz I adopted from various people I met on Petzcord! First up is this cute little mix boy I named Torrent! Torrent was a freebie from Versale and he's been quite the little cutie so far!

So cute, Panther loved him right away! I think Panther may like puppiez, the first thing he did was fetch Torrent a toy and he adored playing with the little pup!

Panther also turned into a cat while I had my back turned, just in time for my brother to catch a glimpse of a big, black... Something randomly floating in the air! He thought my game was broken! Drakenz are interestingly shaped, having much longer bodies than the average dog and this is for a reason.

Notice the smallish tail? That's because the back half of the "body" is actually part of the tail! The back legs are attached to the tail! This can create some... Wonkiness with animations but I don't think it's bad enough for me to not adopt some drakenz, their just too cool to completely ditch!

And after wrapping up Panther and Torrent's playtime allow me to properly introduce the puppy that Malta will be meeting: Halite! Halite already had that name and, being a long time Pokemon fan, I couldn't bring myself to change the name Kayota/Bluecrowned had given her sooo... Her name shall be Salt!

Despite the name, she is actually very cuddly and loving. What a sweetheart!

Malta would appear to agree on that, she also seems to have taken well to having a puppy play day!

And it appears Wilbur also took a liking to Halite. Mmmm, friendship tastes like bacon!

Malta started off being... Well, not that playful. She's not really all that playful, so no surprise she wanted to take a nap with the new puppy but Halite is not quite like that!

She did eventually wake up and start actually playing with everybody, including some mud wrestling with the visiting oinker.

And while I was watering some crops to grow some snacks for the doggoz I wound up discovering that the only one of the three who objected to getting wet was Halite. I guess that's not too surprising, salt disintegrates in water!

Butterflies also showed up to enjoy the flowers and everybody seemed happy to see the fluttery visitors! Well, maybe Halite may have been a bit sus about them.

And before heading back inside for the night I caught a glimpse of the two of them grabbing a bite to eat fresh from the earth. Corn? Carrots? Nah, clovers! Yummy!

Busy Day, So More Past Posting!

I didn't get to play much with Malta and Panther today, just fed and groomed them, as today was... A day.

Development-wise: Neither of the two changed much from yesterday. Aside from being noticeably bigger!

So with nothing new from the drakenz, I'll make this an archive post of some past pix I've taken!

I was already keeping note of the development of "evolving" petz at this time, and I mean really taking note of things! Like how Blaze's tail got a little weird as he started growing the signature imp's tail of a proper Houndoom!

After everybody was fed it was time to play! According to the first pic, I may not have intended to send out two pairs at once but somebody may have come out of the case on their own. So... Why not? One big playdate for everybody!

Spamton wound up stealing the show for the most part, what with figuring out his crazy personality and how everything spooked him, on top of how jealous he gets over me petting anyone else! And yet, it didn't mean he couldn't make friends, he got a bit sad when I accidentally dropped Crystal the Furfrou into the case. Sorry!

All was fine, after a bit of dress-up for the doggoz, I took everybody over to the Haunted Ma- Wait, did I give BigWingz a freakin' knife?... lol Spamton NEO fight but he has a knife

Now here is where I admit I used PetzA to speed up their aging. They had grown from puppiez and kittenz to "adults" but... They dogz still made puppy barks and I didn't really want to breed what felt like teenagers to me. Even from this way back I didn't feel it right to breed petz with an Age value younger than 50!

And so, with a clearer conscious, I put Blaze and Crystal together and enacted Pokemon Infinite Fusions before that game was even released! Gotta say, Calavera turned out the most interesting. Also didn't know at the time that Blaze's blue color does *not* pass down via breeding. Oh well! They still had adorable puppiez!

And thanks to PetzA, Papa Blaze can be with his mate and kids! No avoiding child support for you! Endearingly, Blaze and Crystal were still very lovey-dovey towards each other!

And while the new parents were busy tending to their newborns, Spamton and BigWingz were off on an adventure. Which turned into a beach day.

By the next day I had Blaze return to the Nursery with Crystal and his pupz, where he proceeded to nap for the most part. Crystal was certainly more attentive, very wholesome to have been here at the time seeing Mama Crystal being maternal.

Spamton and BigWingz, on the other hand, stayed at home in the Family Room that day to relax after their adventure... Or, at least BigWingz was trying to relax. Here we have a much smaller Spamton pinning and attempting to play with BigWingz like he caught a mouse! Cheeky little [$!$$]!

From this point, the litter grew big enough to start walking and running on their own! This was also the point I started noting differences in behavior between infant pupz and older pupz, mainly that younger pupz are not as playful as they will be later and they really like sniffing the carrying case.

Oh, and we have the parents being very affectionate in front of their young daughter. Lucky for dogz they can't get embarrassed over their parents getting mushy in plain sight!

I also brought the Spammy Boiz over to the shop since I started experimenting with the Music Box, primarily with replacing the music it plays and swapped it out for a completely Deltarune themed set of tunes. Here is when I learned both Spamton and BigWingz love to dance! I also made the playlist before I discovered somebody else already made plenty of tracks available for everyone!

While Crystal had one more day with the puppiez, the Spammy Boiz decided to take Blaze out with them on their return to the beach. Not mentioned earlier, but they got to meet Peg again, who at this point was turning into a family friend!

It seemed Blaze was more than ready to let loose during his time away from the Fusemon!

Speaking of the Fusemon, I decided to paint the three of them just to see "what could have been". Now that I know how to brex, I'm kind of considering brexing Calavera to be blue since... The brown was kind of random. I'll see what I do later, for now my focus is Panther and Malta!

Bonus Post! Some Pics From The Earliest Dayz

One of the first pics I took when I started (re)playing Petz 5 and it was the newly adopted Spamton and BigWingz wrestling. The two were adopted together and I still consider the two to be brothers in a way.

Not too long after getting Spamton and BigWingz, I decided to mess around in the AC, seeing some of the breedz and I found a shiny! I wound up adopting that shiny, Blaze, and picked up Crystal the Furfrou as well! This also meant I could put PetzA to use and could have the four of them out together!

And then I couldn't resist and adopted two more petz: Kensa the Siamese and Cobalt the Russian Blue. Both of them use OW files, one for more variants and one to fix a glitch but I still considered them my "vanilla" adopts from the bunch.

I also quickly discovered just how jumpy spamcatz are. Really? A water bowl?

This was also my first experience with "evolving" breedz, right away there was a change with Blaze starting to evolve into a proper Houndoom!

I decided to continue playing with all six the day after and took them all to the beach. Inevitably, some got wet which lead to the first time Spamton curled up from getting spooked! BigWingz wound up being a bro by getting him to uncurl!... By tackling him into a tussle!

Another play session over in the living room lead to a caught mouse and a nap time where half of the petz went to sleep and left their "partners" to me and each other.

The next day I opted to have the pairs exit the carrying case separately. For Spamton and BigWingz it only felt appropriate for the two of them to head to [[Number 1 Rated Salesman1997]]'s shop. Where they proceeded to do drugs in the Trash Zone!

Crystal and Blaze, on the other hand, went on a pirate adventure with Peg! The two decided to have a Pokemon battle while they were there after one of them decided to claim a bone as treasure! To be fair: It was a really good bone!

And while the two scurvy dogz had their Pokemon battle, Peg had a battle of his own. He regrets bringing that parrot, darn thing just spits obscenities! At least that's what Peg says.

Speaking of scurvy, the two get some appropriate snacks for the occasion. These scurvy dogz are scurvy-free!

And from a tropical island to a dry, dry desert palace: Kensa and Cobalt head to Arabia to meet Jones!

Jones was quite polite with the kittenz, giving them toyz like this plush Cyndaquil and just being a delight.

The same could not be said of the snake. At least Kensa didn't like the snake, I certainly did! Definitely my favorite thing about visiting Arabia!

And as a last note: A little spotlight for the mice! When I get the opportunity I like to feed treatz to the mice and, eventually, I even named the two. So, we have Reshie the white mouse and Zekkie the gray mouse! Not visible in the pic but my cursor was right where Reshie stood up to sniff me, at the time of the pic I had already earned the little squeakers' trust!

These Drakenz Are The Entire Circus

Panther sees continued growth! Those teeny, tiny white dots over his eyes have grown into two teeny, tiny antennae! Malta sees no further changes today as well, just the tiniest bit bigger compared to yesterday. As I recall, some drakenz don't develop any hints of their adult additions until later but I think some of them just stay doggy-lookin' drakes? Not sure, just gotta keep an eye on her.

Nevertheless, it's time to take the growing drakes somewhere to play and I've decided today that they will be going to the circus! Perhaps I should have dressed them up for the occasion? Perhaps next time.

And there's definitely going to be a next time, turns out Malta and Panther really hit it off with Misha! To the young drakenz, Misha is truly friend-shaped! Do they like jesters?

And since that balloon machine was here again I might as well have a little fin, which usually results in Panther or Misha howling after the pops...

Except for Malta, who still can't figure out the case's door is locked.

Some more of Malta's odd habits is how I'm sure now that she has high kindness, she very easily falls asleep when held. I RNGed my "classic western dragon" into a chinchi!

But along with all the time they spent with Misha they also started seeing each other in a different light. Fascinating!... Under most circumstances, but I think it's a little too questionable to breed petz below the age of 50 since they still come across as "teens" to me until they reach that age. In fact, the two still let out little puppy barks! I do plan to breed the two together to see what happens but I would still like to wait before I do that, when it doesn't come across as "a puppy having puppiez".

To cap off this post: Malta is truly the more chill of the two, very easy to pet her to sleep. Panther, on the other hand, makes like his namesake and likes to jump up to high places just for the heck of it. Very energetic, despite the fact that this was supposed to be naptime.

Puny Wyrms Turning Not So Puny!

I said I would be tracking the continued growth of my drakenz and while Malta hasn't shown any noteworthy changes I already see a change with Panther today: It's hard to see but he has two very tiny white dots above his eyes. The beginning of horns!

For today, I've decided to take the drakenz to the Snow Scene where they got to meet Mitzy!

Too bad Malta didn't really like Mitzy much.

Except when they could take hits from the 'nip together. Apparently.

I also couldn't resist adding a spray bottle for the three of them since... Well... Mitzy was there. Snowballs would have worked fine too but I was wondering if Mitzy or Malta would have gotten the idea to spray each other, instead one wound up accidentally spraying the both of them! Interestingly, I am reminded I rolled for high insanity with Malta.

Panther, not surprisingly, reacts differently to getting spritzed since B+W Shorthairs do not roll for high insanity.

But all this talk of "Tracking Growth in Petz" reminded me of another fellow in my roster of Petz: Prismz! This bun-bun is meant to grow into an... Interesting shape. Granted, I think his original hexer never meant for him to be aged down back to a kitten but it makes it so much more interesting to see Prismz here grow into his final shape!

Along with Prismz, I also brought along my other bunny, a Better Bunny named Swift! And what better way to make an ordinary Sunday into a Bun Bun Sunday than to head to the backyard and spend some time with Cotton! Or... I think its name is Cotton? I don't think the backyard hosts are explicitly named. Weird.

Cotton pretty much spent almost the entire time running scared from a bunch of seed boxes I placed on the fence. Sure, fella. Swift was rather sweet with Cotton though, always trying to bring him toyz whenever the timid lapine wasn't running around in a panic.

And, after a while, Prismz got to take a nap on a flowerbed. But not before getting to eat some freshly picked carrots and munch on some clovers! Fresh air and fresh greens (and oranges?)!

But the day wasn't done yet! Time to see how the durgonz and the bunbunz get along!

Umm... I guess they sort of got along? Does this count as mud wrestling?

Whatever the case, nobody was sent running from anybody else. Except for the occasions the bunniez got their feet wet, but that's to be expected! Overall, I'd say the drakenz and the bunniez had a pretty good day together!

As a bonus, I believe Swift here is questioning my taste in hexed breedz. Her eyes, they judge me...

Genexing Some Unibreedz

If you've scoured around for older Petz breed files you'll likely see that they are unibreed files. The flexibility of these files being compatible with Petz 3, 4 and 5 is nice but, as it turns out, any petz generated from a unibreed always have evened personality traits. All just flat 50s in almost every category. Kind of boring actually...

After taking the plunge into genexing I decided to bring up some petz I adopted a while ago and, admittedly, lost interest in because they were unibreedz and... Fixed them up a bit.

Meet Panther and Malta, they were mentioned in my Petz PC but now is the time for the two to make a proper debut! These two are my Draken puppiez, although they should grow into "adults" (teens more like it) by tomorrow. Drakenz are neat in that they start off looking like overgrown dachsund lizards but they have a lot of variants, and it's not just variant colors either! Some grow horns, some grow long claws, some even grow wings! I have not cheated with these two so I have no idea what they'll grow into but I think it will be fun to track that here!

But first thing's first: What did I change with these two? Malta, the gray female, has mostly randomized personality traits. When it came to her favorites, however, I definitely had some fun with that by making it so her favorite things gave her a tendency to act like a classic western dragon: She likes beef, bones and metal! With an adjustment to her favorite colors she wound up acting like I had intended, favoring toyz like the jingle ball and doubloons!

Panther, on the other hand, was adjusted to play on his name. While I did randomize things with his personality traits I did so as if he were a B+W Shorthair and then adjusted his favorite flavors to things like fish, turkey (the cat food bowls basically), soft and fuzzy things like the mice and even catnip! Catz software in a Draken-Dogz's hardware!

And have these changes succeeded in making them more fun to play with? Now, my memory is pretty shoddy so I have no recollection of how I adjusted their stats so the fact that these two acted so much more differently both from how they were before the genexing and then how differently from each other afterwards was already a major success to me! No more same-y, milquetoast Drakenz!

Malta is the less energetic of the two and doesn't seem as inclined to play compared to Panther, who fetches readily so long as there isn't a certain other distraction. That distraction being Malta. Despite the fact that the two aren't actually that close of friends they certainly like to play together!

Nevermind all the toyz strewn about, they'd wind up preferring to toss toyz to each other or howl together rather than keeping to themselves with bones or sneakers. Hadn't expected that since they weren't like that before. Endearing, actually!

And with that, I think I'll be genexing all of my other unibreedz as well since these two turned out so much better!... I'll do that after I get these two to grow a little more, spend more time with the new and improved Malta and Panther.

Quite The Hiatus Tentatively Ends

I had no time to play today but set up for something I'll hopefully get to do tomorrow. As per yesterday I managed to squeak in a little bit of time to play with some of my Petz again!

Yep. This weirdo again! And I brought the rest of his freaky family!

Ah, but before I set them loose I did a little brexing of the Minitonz, primarily just so they could be more easily distinguished from each other. And I may have been sick of the wonky irises they had before.

The family were having a nice beach day until they got wet. No, not rain, they started freaking out over the waves so I took the freaky catz to the circus!

Only for them not to like the balloon machine much. Whoops!

But after a while everybody settled down and were back to playing. Or fighting, in a few cases. Siblings or not, some catz really just don't get along! Carter, there's a reason you're the one with the red cheeks!

After a while of trying to paw at balloons, jumping onto stools and fighting over a turtle plush I decide to throw in another toy. I mean, spray bottles are technically toys in the game's files!

Whether Papa Spammy agrees or not.

But despite all the craziness it's still sweet to see the boys choosing to huddle around their mama when nap time comes around!

And as a bonus: I caught one of the Minitonz being a little pest. Like father, like son!

Hexing Log: Tiger Tabby VBeta

I had made a simple hexed breed a while back, the original/alpha version of the Tiger Tabby, that Witch happens to be, but I had always planned for the breed to be further tinkered with. I thought I wouldn't change too much with it since I was still super new to hexing but once I found myself in a flow state I just kept experimenting until...

I not only had a vastly different breed from the original, I even managed to make a kitten for it that was noticeably different from the adult form. It was something I was always worried about, that I wouldn't be able to get the hang of LNZ Pro until much later, but it seems all my time paying close attention to other hexers in Petzcord, carefully reading tutorials and getting my toes wet with minor brexing paid off!

The breed's not ready yet, variations have always been something I've wanted for the breed, but I won't be continuing work on it until I get my site up as I'd like to have a more reliable place to host a download link for the completed Tiger Tabby. If you can tell by the sign post that it's a P5 breed then no worries, I plan to convert the breed to P4 as well and ask for a P3 Tabby file for a P3 conversion too! Additionally, the breed is an OW, so even if you lack the breed file any Tiger Tabbies obtained should work just fine in any game with the vanilla Tabby breed!
