g/t july day 19 - illness (from this post, yes i mixed lists)
I alluded to it slightly in this post long ago, but there was a particular... harrowing situation that caused them to realize that they had romantic feelings for each other.
Giants don't get sick often, their immune systems are tough, so when they catch something, it's usually life ending. Humans get sick pretty frequently, it's easy to when most infections are adapted to affect you. Anyway, Mabel gets sick with a decently strong cold, and Roger genuinely doesn't know what to do. This scene would take place while he's waiting for Josey to come over and check her out, but before that time, he's panicking internally. little tidbit below !!!
"Please... stay?" She mumbled, half delirious. Her hair covered half of her face messily, and she shivered despite being underneath the covers. Roger froze, his back still turned to her.
"Don't you need broth to get better?" He asked meekly, unsure of what to do. She had instructed him earlier to do so, so what had changed?
"I can't..." She paused, coughing dryly. "I don't want..." Mabel could hardly think straight, and getting out a full sentence was even harder. Roger turned to look at her laying so limply on her bed, and he felt his entire body heat with agonizing fear. He wasn't sure he could bear it if she died while he was cooking. He stepped back towards the table, being mindful with his steps so that they didn't make her tremble. He sat at the table, his hands trembling and he brought them closer to her.
"May I... Are you cold?" He swallowed thickly, watching her wriggle under the covers a little.
"Yes." She mumbled, shivering while sweating. "And also no." Roger retreated a little, his breath hitching. "But... I wouldn't mind the company." She coughed, shifting to look at him. Her hair was a mess, her brown eyes peeking through glistening with illness. Still, there was something so perfect about her that he couldn't help the butterflies in his stomach.
"O-Okay." He stammered, brushing her face with his thumb cautiously to try and get her hair out of her face. He knew that she hated it that way. So he stayed there with her until Josey came, and even then, he stayed at her request. Neither of them could deny the underlying flutters of something new. Something previously unexplored. Still, could it be nice to try?
