I’m too tired to deal with bullshit, but this is my vent blog, so I’m going to vent.

“Gatekeeping” literally isn’t a thing in the otherkin community.

We cannot actually keep you from doing whatever the hell you want. No one can, so don’t screech that there’s “gatekeeping” happening the minute someone asks you a goddamn question. If you don’t want to answer it, say that.

9/10 times the people asking the question aren’t going to absolutely insist on an answer. Sometimes things are personal, and that’s fine. Most of the time they’re just curious, and who can blame them? Being otherkin is a really fucking weird experience. We want to know more about it. We want to learn more about each other. Questions help us do that. Just say “I don’t feel comfortable answering that,” just say “I’d rather not answer that,” say “Maybe we should talk another time,” idfc. Whatever gets you through the day.

Moreover, I can’t even begin to count how many otherkin communities exist out there. No one person has control over every single one. No one group of people exists on all of them. Go find another. It exists, and if it doesn’t, chances are you’re doing something wrong.

And another thing: If you don’t find a community you really click with, maybe you should reconsider whether you really fit into that community. 

I talked about this in my Rabbit and the Wolves story. Sometimes, for one reason or another, we’re simply in the wrong place to find those of our own kind, or maybe the place we’re in is simply not the best place to be. If you can’t find a niche in a certain part of a community, or a certain community in general, don’t try to change the entire community. Change where you’re looking.

There are so many other esoteric identities and communities outside otherkin. You don’t need to be otherkin. Find people you actually resonate with, and stick with them. Find somewhere you want to be.
