@thesistersarcheron challenged me to find the following words in my WIPs:
haughty, vibrant, dance, surge, ice
I checked my CinderAz WIP, my Kinktober WIP, and my Monsterober WIP and sadly only found ONE!
With long, confident steps, she approached the dias. Azriel expected her to pause before the thrones; to bend a knee for the High Lord and High Lady. But instead she bobbed into a curtsy in front of him. “I hope you saved a dance for me, shadowsinger.”
“Tonight isn’t a ball,” he told her, a ghost of a memory from the first time he’d seen her in the Hewn City. “It’s a show of power.”
Gwyn smiled coyly. “Who says a dance is not?” Her arm was extended; her hand waiting for him to take it. So Azriel did.
Everything else fell away as Azriel led Gwyn to the middle of the room. With a twist of his arm, he moved her into position, his palm spanning her back. Her eyes locked onto his as she brought her free hand up to his shoulder. A wisp of shadow looped around her wrist before flitting back behind his wing. And as though it had been waiting for him to be ready, the music began.
Azriel drew Gwyn into a waltz, the two of them flowing into the dance as effortlessly as breathing. Like they had been born to move together. They covered the whole of the floor, spinning past the court as though they hadn’t a care in the world. Not that he had any focus for anything–or anyone–beside her.
Tagging (no pressure!) @thelovelymadone @daevastanner @labellefleur-sauvage @bearbluebooks @melting-houses-of-gold
and your words are:
apple, water, star, play, smile
Thank you for the tag @headcanonheadcase, this was so much fun! I have two WIP and I found three words! I was really shocked not to find water in my yachting fic...
Smile - Below Deck: Prythian
His eyes reflected so much affection it took her back a bit, especially when he declared “We’ll deal with whatever comes together.”
As he placed one kiss on top of her forehead, he whispered into her ear “Okay?”
Those words and actions brought her back from her panic, as she answered with a small smile “okay.”
“Okay” he answered again. Then he picked up the clothes that were still scattered around the large room, and dressed her piece by piece. First her underwear, then her shorts and top. She carried her cardigan in one hand.
Then he placed one last kiss on her cheek, as he took her other hand and cajoled her to the back of the room. How had she not noticed the door there?
“I’ll take you to the hallway that leads to your quarters, tomorrow we’ll talk about it. I promise.”
Gwyn took one deep breath, as she whispered “okay.”
Star - The Sun and its Shadows
And then there was Elain, who was as wonderful as she was kind. Their relationship could have become awkward when Azriel and her started dating, especially when they started to share a room and he would come over. Although it took some getting used to the new situation, from both sides, she never made Gwyn feel unwelcome. And for that she would always be grateful. Tonight she looked ethereal in her purple fairytale dress. The sheer sleeves matched the fluidity of the star studded skirt perfectly.
Play - Below Deck Prythian
Nesta was her best friend but she could be harsh sometimes. A lecture was bound to happen and she could already see it play out in her mind- ‘what were you thinking, somebody could report Azriel for unethical conduct, for preferential treatment. You will never get a job as chief stew again. Everybody will think you got to the position you worked so hard for through sex.’
The worst past was that she was right. Rumors circulated at an alarming rate in the yachting industry. Stories about romances between captains and one of their crew didn’t make the cut often, but when it did, it was the talk of the year.
I'm tagging @captain-of-the-gwynriel-ship @velidewrites @littlefishbigsea @sunshinebingo (also no pressure!)
With the words dance, soft, linger, castle, boat
Thank you for thinking of me @bearbluebooks. Let me give this a go. Some of these are one-offs or unpublished WIP. NSFW warning. My words are: dance, soft, linger, castle, boat.
Dance
"With his shadows in full retreat, and his mind thoroughly distracted, Azriel didn't anticipate the sudden tap at his shoulder. Turning, there was no one there. Rita's was brimming with clientele. Patrons in all manners of dress, rags to riches, danced, made merry, and drank. The band upon the stage played, drowned out by the screaming conversations. 'Speaking of the devil,' Az muttered before turning his head in the other direction. 'Well, hello to you too,' Cassian said cheerily, holding up Azriel's beer and taking multiple gulps. 'I'll kill you,' Azriel threatened, grabbing for his drink. 'Give it back.' 'Nope.' 'Get your own beer, you overgrown bat.' 'Sorry, brother,' Cassian apologized before belching loudly. 'My love for ale is stronger than our friendship.'" - Untitled & unreleased Gwynriel chapter, Siren's Umbra
Soft
"The slap echoed through the chamber like a clap of thunder. A reddening hue blossomed across the cheek of his ass. Azriel's entire body tensed like a pulled bow, taut, on the verge of snapping, his erection undiminished. A pulse thudded between her legs in the vacuum of silence that followed. Her nipples so sensitive the soft muslin of her robes felt more like sackcloth. All she wanted was to kiss the mark she'd made, but he wasn't cooperating, losing himself instead in the razor sharp edge of pleasure slicing through him. "Azriel..." His cock jerked at the sound of his name passing between her lips, rolling off her tongue. Above him, his hands were bound with white ribbon, strung from the ceiling with corded black rope. Time had ceased to exist as she teased him again and again, edging him ever closer to a release that promised to shoot stars across his vision." - Unreleased, Gwynriel one-shot WIP
Linger
"In the dark, cold of my prison the press of her warm, star speckled skin lingers. Within my dreams she comes to me, incorporeal and glowing, gripping my chin as she kisses me lightly in greeting before running her tongue across my lips. She moans and takes me inside her, our bodies intertwined in the way shadow danced with moonlight at dusk." - The Summoning, a Gwynriel WIP one-shot, Unreleased
Castle
"Further into the castle we traversed. My people milled about, watching but not watching, backs bent in low bows, eyes seeing all. Don't stumble. Don't falter. They'd be on me in a moments time despite the black crown that adorned my precious head. We came upon the throne room at last. Great reliefs of historic battles were carved into the walls, the scheming and manipulations recorded in stone. The courtiers grew still, as if death now weaved through them. Shadows pulled, gathered, cloaking me. I made my way to the obsidian dais, power filling the room, the castle and beyond. Like the stars, I had no end and no beginning. Eternal. Fathomless knowledge, untapped potential, magnificent beauty. The full impact of who and what I was threatened to drown me at times, especially here, upon this stone seat. A dream to some, a nightmare to others, I was Queen of Hesperus, Daughter of Phosphorus, and the Evening Star." - Untitled, original WIP
Boat
"'The Tower huh,' Cassian muttered. 'Nesta won't stop going on about Gwyn going back after the rites.' 'Do you blame her?' 'Nesta or Gwyn? I blame neither,' his brother shook his head, downing his own drink. 'Her friendship is important to Nesta. She only wants the best for the priestess. Her quirkiness softens some of my mates harder edges.' Cassian's mouth quirks into a lopsided, love-fool, grin. 'Quirky doesn't begin to describe her.' 'Oh?' 'She's short tempered.' 'And bossy,' Cass added. 'And-' Azriel recalled the way she'd tucked her hair behind her ear as she'd read to him; lips moving, eyes darting back and forth across the page. The way the candle light had flickered so lovingly across her skin. 'Hmph.' Az took a long drink. 'Hmph,' Cass echoed, hiding his grin behind a mug of beer. 'Sounds like you get along.' At Az's eyeroll, the conversation devolved into the bets Cass lost in the last boating races. Azriel wasn't much for gambling. It was no fun when you could accurately predict based on weight of the boat and the speed of the Sidra's currents who would win. He hardly lost a bet, which was likely why Cass no longer asked him to join on game days. 'But that's exactly what I'm explaining to you,' Cass yelled, throwing up his arms, beer sloshing. 'If you make everything an equation, you miss the best part of the games.' 'I don't agree. That is the game,' Azriel drunkenly argued, hiccoughing twice more than was appropriate for one of his reputation. 'You can't reduce people down to numbers,' his brother slurred. 'Just last year Prancing Pegasus pulled out that win in the last two minutes of the race!' 'Yeah, because of an advantageous southern wind that blasted them over the finish line,' Az explained. 'Anyone could have altered their calculations to include the variable-' 'That settles it,' Cass slammed his mug onto the counter top and scrambled to his feet. Swaying gently, he pointed a finger at Azriel, eyes hard. 'Let's settle this with a duel.' 'We haven't properly dueled in ages,' Az grumbled, finishing his beer. He lifted his gaze to meet Cassian's. 'What's the score anyway?' 'We're not children, Az, I stopped keeping score ages ago.' Azriel got to his feet. Rita's bustle ground to a halt as its patron's watched the two Illyrians sway across from each other. Cass eyed his brother, smirking. 'I've won 16 of 25,' the shadowsinger confessed, returning his brother's smirk. 'See now, that's where you're wrong.' Cass swished his pointer finger at Az, narrowly missing poking him in the chest. 'Oh,' Azriel purred, all darkness and murderous intent. 'I thought you didn't remember the score. I'll gladly prove it.'" - Untitled, WIP chapter, Siren's Umbra
