I’m going to tell you something: thoughts are never honest. Emotions are. Do not go around asking for honesty in what people think; much of what they perceive as thinking is empty anyway because it’s thought out again and again and comes out refined and muddy. The ones who know how to feel might have to say to you a couple of interesting things or not and when they do that, you ought to know how to listen. So learn how to listen. You can’t make someone open up about their feelings in case they don’t want to. But you can remain open yourself through listening deeply and completely; they might want to talk about the weather and keep it simple — allow them to feel the simplicity…Emotion pours out directly or indirectly each time people engage themselves in the process of genuine interaction.”
Albert Camus, Notebooks 1951-1959 (via fyp-philosophy)
There is nothing sinful or unchristian about going through seasons of being down or troubled. In fact, Jesus says that the poor in spirit are exactly who the Kingdom is for.

Why do they always teach us that it’s easy and evil to do what we want and that we need to discipline to restrain ourselves? It’s the hardest thing in the world–to do what we want. And it takes the greatest kind of courage. I mean, what we really want.
Ayn Rand, The Fountainhead (via wordsnquotes)
As soon as you believe that a label you’ve put on yourself is true, you’ve limited something that is literally limitless, you’ve limited who you are into nothing but a thought.

To discover, as it now seems probable, that our planet is one of billions of other worlds in the Milky Way Galaxy and that our galaxy is one of billions more, majestically expands the arena of what is possible.

#tbt to when my dad was in med school and I would go try and play with him while he was studying. The amount of work, dedication, and persistence it took my dad to get to where he is today does not go unrecognized. Thank you papa for everything ❤️ #throwbackthursday #doctor #medschool #hw #dad #papa #happy #blessed #helovesme #ilovehim #happy #youaretoogoodtome #thankyou
Modern man is conditioned to expect instant gratification but any success or triumph realized quickly, with only marginal effort is necessarily shallow. Meaningful achievement takes time, hard work, persistence, patience, proper intent and constant self-awareness. The path to such success is punctuated by failure, consolidation and renewed effort. It is wet with the tears of emotional breakdown. Personal reconstruction is art. Discovering one's self, one's talent and ambition and learning how to express it is a creative process so may not be rushed. What's the hurry? Pressure to succeed according to a particular timeline comes from outside. If the goal is selfish self-improvement there is no schedule, no deadline. One's rate of progress is influenced by the intensity used to address the task. Hard, intelligent work speeds us along the path. Neurotic obsession and compulsion may steepen the trajectory but usually lead to illness and injury. In the end, the process takes as long as it takes -- you can't push the river. We are in it for the long haul and demand the same of the athletes we train.

Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.
H. Jackson Brown Jr. (via wordsnquotes)
If you are going to be used by God, He will take you through a number of experiences that are not meant for you personally at all. They are designed to make you useful in His hands, and to enable you to understand what takes place in the lives of others.
My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers (via imforgiven)
I believe still today what I have always believed: that God is good, that the world He made is extraordinary, and that His comfort is like nothing else on earth.

There's this gnawing, nagging, feeling tugging and scraping at my heart. He told me after one of my matches, "You can't cheat time". Those words were like hot coal. They were BURNING the inside of my chest. I couldn't argue, all I could do was look at him and cry and nod in agreement. I was foolish to think that I could get by with pure determination, but in all honesty that isn't enough. No matter how bad you want something, no matter how bad you want to accomplish something, you can't get it from wanting it so bad. You can't accomplish your goal without paying your dues first.
All I've done was 1 year and 1/2 of pure freestyle wrestling and I thought I could make up what little experience I had with the desire to just completely dominate and win. Reality is the best lie detector. It allows you to state the facts and see the truth. Reality can be a cold slap across the face or a soft gentle whisper reminding you of things that need to get done in order to succeed. You can choose either one, but remember one brings pain, the other brings calm reassurance.
I can't cheat time... A great lesson learned. Who am I to skip out on the mind numbing practices? The weight cut struggles? The extra technique sessions? The extra cardio sessions? The extra extra work you have to put in to accomplish something great?
People think that they suddenly have "no life" when they make the choice to put their goals before everything else. They think because they can't eat what others do, they can't go out like others do, they can't do things that others do, that their life is gone. Well that is a disheartening outlook on life. I don't empathize with their choice or their feelings. That outlook gives you no power, it gives you minimal creativity to paint a true masterpiece. You can have your "NO LIFE". I choose mine, I choose this.
Yea, I can't cheat time, but you best bet that I can outwork anyone who has cheated themselves of their time. We each have our separate journeys and this is mine. I don't want yours, i don't want hers or his. I'm more than fine with mine. I have the ability to create endless possibilities so it's time to put in mind numbing work and create something beautifully grand.
You wish to reform the world: reform yourself, otherwise your efforts will be in vain.

Δεν ελπίζω τίποτα, δεν φοβούμαι τίποτα, λυτρώθηκα από το νου κι από την καρδιά, ανέβηκα πιο πάνω, είμαι λεύτερος.
Nikos Kazantzakis, The Saviors of God
translation: "I do not hope for anything. I do not fear anything, I have freed myself from both the mind and the heart, I have mounted much higher, I am free."
(via wordsnquotes)
We are not meant to stay wounded. We are supposed to move through our tragedies and challenges and to help each other move through the many painful episodes of our lives. By remaining stuck in the power of our wounds, we block our own transformation. We overlook the greater gifts inherent in our wounds — the strength to overcome them and the lessons that we are meant to receive through them. Wounds are the means through which we enter the hearts of other people. They are meant to teach us to become compassionate and wise.
