Panic struck him as he turned and saw the badge on the officers side. “No, No listen you don’t understand.” Holding his hands up in surrender, the Doctor took a deep breath. “Listen to me I had no choice..I had to. It was my life or his and…and I have special reason to stay alive I’m the last of my kind.”
‘You’ve got that right, buddy,’ Kate muttered to herself when he stated she didn’t understand. Luckily, she didn’t even have to prompt him to explain. The man - British, what was he doing on her side of the pond? - was quick to try and excuse his actions.
Unfortunately he sounded like Daniel. Well, like Daniel on a very, very bad day. “Okay... hey,” she said soothingly, knowing this situation had to be handled very carefully. The man was of his medication and clearly very into his current delusion. Poor soul. “We’ll get you help, alright?”

The Doctor was staring down at his shoes. The blood on his hands dripped pitt patt onto the leather that kept his feet covered and warm. His eyes were full of shock, terror, and fear of no one but himself. “What have I done..”
“You know,” Kate’s voice seemed to echo across and around the room as she stared at the taller (who wasn’t, though?) man. “It’s funny, because I was just about to ask that same question.” Her badge was clearly visible on her waste. Standard isse gun slightly less so as it was tucked out of sight thanks to her coat.

“Lost?” The pirate was startled but pleased.
littlemissonamission:
“My mind, perhaps.” Kate eyed him. No point second guessing her decision now, she supposed. There had been a reason she broke into his room. Seeing the pirate again after so long was distracting her, however.
It was almost as if part of her had missed him. Or perhaps just butting heads with him.
Regardless, she wasn’t going to be admitting that to his face.
Hook somehow knew he hadn’t seen the last of Kate. She was as beautiful as he remembered if only a little rough around the edges now. Yet not even that could make the pirate want her less. “Well, you know what they say, sometimes you have to lose your mind to come to your senses.” He would beckon her to come to him if he knew she’d listen. But Kate wouldn’t be Kate if she would. So he sat still. And waited for her to make her next move.
And who says that? She wanted to ask. Too suspicious though. Kate reined herself back in tightly, only allowing a slight smirk to grace her lips in acknowledgement instead. “Funny how many things have a habit of being lost around you, Captain. Don’t you think?”

Quote adapted from an interview with Eric McCormack. He attributed the quote to Dr. Elyn Saks, but she may have been quoting Tennessee Williams, who said, “If I got rid of my demons, I’d lose my angels.”
