Building Confidence
By Gregorie Anders | http://www.crunchyroll.com/user/Gr3gory4n3r5 ... Starting up a business is never, ever an easy job. It gets even harder when you have no connections to higher-up or more successful businesses that can help you out. I graduated with a degree in Business Management, and a quick assessment of how my business was currently out told me that I was never going to survive the cutthroat competition I was in alone. I needed help, but how I was going to get that? I would need that help to be big, and I would need it fast to save my company from going bankrupt. Only problem: I had no idea where to start, or who to start on. Business conferences abounded around me, but I had not a clue as to who to talk to, or how to get the connections to revive my dying business. I plumbed the Internet desperately for a clue as to how I could get those connections up, and a site jumped out at me from Google. It wasn’t a regular article or blog post; those were generally just tips that would not actually give me the training or practice I needed to make this connection work. It was the official web site of a company called Paramount Training in Development. Based in Australia, it operated out of several different states, namely: Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Parramatta, Perth, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Darwin, and my own town, Sydney. The various institutions they had housed several classrooms from which they held training seminars on topics directly related to corporate success. I looked around their library of training courses, and frankly, I was rather overwhelmed. There were at least three hundred training course topics, meaning these guys were definitely not goofing around, especially not if they had this many branches around the country. I selected a course topic called Networking. If ever there was a time to learn how to talk to people, this was it. I looked for ways to enrol in it, and while I was at it, I was offered the service of customising the course. It took me aback; most educational things and curriculum are rather set. They most especially do not allow student customisation or interference, but here it was, asking if I would like to redesign the course. I took it up on its offer, and had a blast redesigning the various activities I would be using to learn how to network from. Soon, I was finished enrolling, and I was ready to attend the seminar in a matter of days at the Sydney institution. I dug around a little more on their web site to learn a little more about them, and discovered that they were also offering the courses online, with a professional assistant for one-on-one training. A tempting and convenient offer, but I decided I’d rather ensure that the training was legitimate in person. I made a sticky note with a gold star too, and put it on my fridge so I’d remember that it was there if I ever felt like coming back to learn with the company again. A couple of days later, I was there at the Sydney branch at 9:45AM, nervously fidgeting with my fingers and booklets with a few others inside the training room. As soon as the clock hit exactly 10AM, the teacher burst in, and enthusiastically greeted all of us before starting his lesson. He was a very friendly soul, and made all of us feel welcome. He was not just friendliness and hot air either. He proved to be a distinctly professional fellow, by using plenty of activities that we could easily pick up the needed networking skills from. He even used some peer practice, getting each of the students including myself to talk to each other as practice, and form our own networks with each other. I’d have to remember to contact some of my older classmates later, although odds were good that they would contact me too. When all of it was said and done, he waved us happily away with certificates of proficiency, and plenty more knowledge and courage about how to network our way to success with our companies. I took my chance at the next business fair in Sydney. Now or never, right? I got familiar with the various names and people there, and made a checklist of whom I meant to talk to. There were dozens of people on my list, and not all of them agreed to network with me or make deals with me. However, many of them did! I used the skills I learned from my networking class, and about seven of these big companies agreed to network with me for my company’s services, and provide their assistance to me! I couldn’t have been happier. In a few months time, I was enjoying a steady rise in my business’ success, and constant meetings and friendly meals with the people I met at that business fair. I’m proud of how far I came, and I’m also grateful to Paramount for giving me the learning I needed to get this far. I found that this course is essential for anyone who wants to start up his or her own business. Anyone who ever wants to start up a business can never succeed alone; the business world is a cutthroat competition, and you need all the help you can get to survive it and rise to the top. The only way to do that is to network yourself and your company, figure out a way to make your business pitches work, and stick. Afterwards, reciprocation of these services has to be made to keep that network strong and pumping support to you. However, when it’s all done, your business will be a success, and you will have made a lot more friends. This course is a great step towards making your business a success, or at least, helping it live. Book a course with Paramount today, and your business dreams can come true!
