You had been there for him during one of the darkest times in his life. His mother and best friend had just passed, and he had to watch countless others die in those horrible games. He had never gone into depth about them, but you knew there was some trauma that still lingered—and in a way, you were like his personal therapist, always getting him to open up.
That’s why today you followed him to the rundown love motel he had bought as a hideout. You were running a few minutes late, but you had never expected to see two men handcuffed to either side of the large tub. One was a younger man, maybe in his mid twenties, who was awake and leaning against the orange tile. The second was passed out, his nose bleeding slightly. He was wearing an expensive looking dark grey suit, his hair perfectly styled.
“Who are they?” You ask, turning to Gi-hun. “Detective Hwang Jun-ho.” Answers the younger man. “What about him?” You point to the passed out man who looked to be somewhere in his thirties. “Who is he?” Gi-hun sighs. “He’s a recruiter. He finds people and he gets them to participate in the game.” He says, leaning over the shallow tub.
“What are you going to do about him?” Jun-ho nods towards the unconscious ‘recruiter’. “Get the information we need, and then kill him.” The older man says curtly. “Wait!” You quickly interject. “We shouldn’t kill him.” You pause. “He could bring us to this ‘island’, couldn’t he?”
“You’re missing the point.” Jun-ho interrupts, looking you dead in the eye. “He’ll bring more harm than good if we keep him alive.” Your breath hitches. Didn’t they want to stop the games? Didn’t they want to keep people from dying? The man before you may be a monster, but he was still a human. “No. We can’t.”
Just then, the recruiter opens his charcoal black eyes and blinks up at the three of you. “I see you’re finally awake.” Gi-hun chides. The recruiter sighs, knowing he had lost—but that sick, twisted smile stayed glued onto his face. “I assume you have some questions for me?” He smiles sickly. “Many.” Jun-ho looks at the man opposite to him in the tub.
