Ginny: Seth's volunteering at the library and Owen's got a summer job, so it's mostly Austin and I at home right now. He's been really into the summer reading program the library's hosting? So when we drop Seth off, he'll go and pick up a few books to get through for the rest of the week. If you've got any book recommendations for a 6th grader, let me know and we'll pick them up.

Ginny: I have a Pinterest; Seth has a tiktok. Gosh, I can't imagine making one of those, but I'll see stuff on other platforms. Pinterest does have a lot of wedding stuff, but there's just a lot of good decor or recipe ideas on it in general. I don't know if he needs me to do that, but it's been fun being involved in the stuff he's interested in.

Liv: That's adorable. I know I was huge into the Boxcar Children series when I was growing up, but that might be a tad young for a 6th grader. What's Owen doing for his summer job?

Liv: Not even with your huge success with Tiktok dances? It seems only a matter of time before you make the switch over hahaha. I think it's great that you guys are bonding over it though. I'm sure it's especially great because it gets a lot of energy out of him.

“Hmm,” she pretended to size him up for a moment before covering his mouth with her hand. “There, now we can have a real conversation,” she teased with a smug grin of her own. “I’m aware it’s different. I’m just pointing out your need for attention is as bad as theirs.”

Ginny: There was a lot of bouncing around between the different dances. It's a good workout and a fun way to kill some time as a family. With the boys out of school, we've been trying to find different things to do so that they're not in front of their screens all day, every day.

Ginny: I'm definitely new to that app too. A friend and I were planning a dinner party a year or so back and she was the one who introduced me to it. And now I scroll through it if I'm trying to plan something special. I love making spread sheets and lists, so this just felt like a great way to visualize some of that stuff and have all of the ideas in one place. It's Seth's account; everyone's been doing those dance challenges and he wanted to try them with someone and asked if I'd do them. And now we've done like..six of them.

Liv: So no summer camp or anything for them? Then again, I guess with all of you being so busy during the school year, the summer is the best time for you to hang out.

Liv: Oh so you do have a tiktok? or Pinterest? I know that's the one that people use for wedding stuff and that's the extend of my knowledge, but it makes sense that it can be used for all sorts of get togethers. He's trying to get internet famous off of you I bet.

Ginny: I think the home page on it is called the 'for you' page? Kind of how Pinterest curates content that you might like for your home page that you can sift through. I teach media studies and I've never actually opened the app. I've seen stuff reposted elsewhere? But idk how this app works

Liv: I'd say especially the little one, but you guys were doing a lot of hopping around too.

Liv: You make the mistake of thinking I use Pinterest hahaha So this video was for your kid to post?

Cal: Just a few random sort of different things. I'm building a drone, so that's been taking up most of my attention. Also installing some sensors to make a few things a little easier.

Liv: Wait, building a drone? Like from scratch? No wonder that's taking up so much of your attention. That sounds difficult.

“No, see, you think that just because you flash that grin at me, you’ll get away from it,” she shook her head. “That’s not going to work. I deal with cuter kids than you for a living. You’re going to have to learn to pay attention.”

Cal: Yeah, but still, it's like a point of pride. Like if you were really into fashion, but all your clothes were burned in a fire and you had to go through a week with hand-me-downs. Maybe everyone around you doesn't know clothes are that important to you, but it's hard for you still, you know? Which all of that would lead you to think I'd suck it up and stop procrastinating, but I'm working on so many more fun things.

Liv: I see your point. Uh, I guess I'll let you feel embarrassed by it then? What other things are you working on? They must be pretty great if you're going through all that with your personal laptop.

Cal: Yeah, I'm guilty of that sometimes. It's just that like computers are my thing, you know? I mean, yeah. I always have a few projects going on, but I can set them all aside if I just wanna chill. It's not like a stressful thing. It's like a hobby thing.

Liv: I think most everyone is guilty of it sometimes. It's not so unusual. Not everyone knows your thing is computers though. So basically you're saying you would have time to fix your computer if it bothered you enough to set the time aside.

Cal: Just that they'd be the one to call me out for my laptop. Ummmmm in theory, but I've always got a bunch of projects going on honestly.

Liv: I think you're worrying too much about what other people think. I lot of people have crappy laptops. Really? You never have a day where you have nothing going on?

Cal: I've got to try and avoid the nerd community. But you see, complaining is much easier and less time consuming than fixing the issue.

Liv: What's wrong with the nerd community? Sure, but if you have a spare moment where you're bored, you've got an automatic project to work on. That's nice, right?

Cal: This girl actually made a comment today, she was being nice, it wasn't bad, just yeah. Well, it's on start-up, even if it wasn't fully off. It's not so much of a big deal, just a little extra attention I guess.

Liv: At least no one is full on calling you out on it. You should put some time aside and see if you can fix it. Obviously you're bothered enough by it to complain about it over text.

Cal: I plan to. It's just laziness I guess. It's functional, so I just keep putting it off, which is fine, until I'm in public and embarrassed.

Liv: I'm sure people don't notice it all that much. You probably have nothing to be embarrassed about. But if it only happens when you turn it on, why not just keep it on if you're going out?

Cal: It's getting embarrassing that I go around fixing everyone else's laptops and shit and mine sounds like it's preparing for take off every time I turn it on.

Liv: I'm sure someone's asked you this question already, but...why not fix it yourself?
