Just remember not to eat her, eh Linky boy?
Mario Party 10: Peach
Peach is a badass. Where’s my sequel to Super Princess Peach Nintendo? You better be announcing that at E3. Screw Starfox, give the people what they want! :P
Before I turned the sound on the music in my head was the Magic Roundabout theme tune.
I’ve always loved the art from Metal Gear Solid, so untamed, so expressive. It feels like everything is moving even though they’re static images.
Assorted booze from The King of Fighters ‘95, by SNK.
I’m a little bit in love wih the Neo Geo at the moment. Old school 2D beat ‘em up FTW.
Thoughts on... Planetside 2
I’ve been playing a lot of new, well new to me, games lately.
Planetside 2 is one such example. I wanted to play an FPS, as I haven’t in a while. Taking a browse through Steam’s free-to-play selection, I decided on Planetside 2 as I’d heard about the game recently breaking the world record for ‘most concurrent players in a battle’ or something like that. That sounded like fun to me!
So, I downloaded it. Which took all night and then had to wait for an install, which took most of the following day. If you want to play a game here and now…forget it!
Anyway, It’s a squad based FPS. With absolutely huge battles! That’s it’s appeal, being part of a cog in a much larger military machine, as opposed to ‘being the hero’ in most other shooters.
I chose to specialise in being a medic, because I’m strange like that and also because my aim sucks in FPS games on PC, since I haven’t played any seriously since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Also, keeping people alive seemed like it might actually be an important job in a game so big as this.
And so it was, in larger battles at least. In smaller skirmishes I found less to do and my healing didn’t help in other ways. Fortunately, you’re not really tied to one class or another, you can chop an change almost instantly as needs require. Though specialising in a set of upgrades for a class naturally makes the class more efficient.
For a medic the basically meant that my healing ‘gun’ healed faster and resurrected people with more health when they came back. There are far more permutations than that, but all the guides I read said that as you’re supposed to be a healer, you damn well better be the best healer you can be. It made sense to me.
I’ve played about ten or so hours and so far, I feel like I’m just getting a vague handle on how to play. Squads are king. Move as a unit and work for each other and you can decimate the enemy swiftly and capture control points (the games main, minute to minute aim) with relative ease. Unless of course, they’re organised too…then it largely comes down to a numbers game. Whoever has more soldiers in an area, will win.
So would I recommend it?
To FPS fans looking to get into a serious time sink, absolutely. There’s a depth and scale available here unmatched by anything else I’ve ever played.
There are five main classes to play, as well as a bonus class, which is basically a walking robo-suit to master. Then there’s the various vehicles, ground and air, to learn, master and generally wreak havoc in. Then there’s the meta game of organising you squad, platoon, or maybe even the whole of your armies forces if you fancy going hardcore.
Then of course there’s an unlock system, which favours the paying players, because they’ll get things faster, but doesn’t force you to pay at all as far as I can see.
Not bad for nowt…and it could be one to watch when it comes to PS4 later this month.
An Animal Crossing character riding a Legend of Zelda-themed bike on an F-Zero track in “Mario” Kart.
Is this ‘meta’? Or ‘meta meta’? What a world.

NES Tetris on a Retron 5
A little video where I introduce the joys of the Retron 5 console.
Spoiler alert: I like it.
Exclusive console suck
Exclusive consoles suck.
There, I’ve repeated the title again to make sure you get it.
If the recent spate of these exclusive consoles has taught us anything, it’s that Ebay is the home of thieves, rogues, rapscallions and shysters.
The 20th anniversary Grey PS4?
Farce.
The newly announced New 3DS Xl Majora’s Mask Edition.
Bigger farce.
If you did manage to get hold of one of these consoles and you didn’t then promptly sell it, you’d be an idiot. You can make your money back times at least three.
And are they that special? No. They grey PS4 makes me laugh hardest. C’mon guys, the original grey PS1’s colour is awful. The colour they use to paint navy ships will never be sexy.
So why are they so popular? Why are they in such demand?
Because collectors. That’s why. Our nerdiness is being exploited time and again. And time and again we fall for it.
We are being tapped for cash, first by companies that couldn’t give a damn and then again by opportunists that give a damn even less.
Don’t do it! Don’t buy these exclusives! They’re functionally the same all you’ll have in the end is an empty wallet and a hole in your heart that hasn’t been filled with consumerism.
Just sayin’.

XBLA Mini Review – Rainbow Islands Towering Adventure
Price: £6.75
Description: The original Rainbow Islands was a sequel to Bubble Bobble and this game is a sort-of sequel to that.
The aim of the game is to ascend to the top of the tower by jumping on platforms. You can also fire rainbows at will, in order to blast enemies and provide yourself with a platform to stand on.
All the while there's a ticking time limit and should you touch any enemy at all, you'll loose thirty precious seconds, so making mistakes is a big no-no.
Like it:
Fun game concept, with a definite old-school charm.
Loathe it:
The graphical style hideous, are far cry from the Bub and Bob's original adventures.
Tough to the point of annoyance.
The buttons for jumping and shooting rainbows feel the wrong way around and can't be changed. Again Taito? You did that in the Bubble Bobble update...
Worth a purchase?: The Rainbow Islands games are quite fun by all accounts, unfortunately this version just feels a bit broken.
If a little more care had been paid to the controls, the difficulty, the continue system and the art direction, it could have great. As it is; it's awkward to play, too hard to be fun and damnably ugly. Hardly a recommendation.
Rating: 2/5
Available on: Xbox 360 (version reviewed) and Wii.

Thought & Opinions – #Rant #FIFA15 #Youarenotacow
Call of Duty look like it's finally been supplanted as the yearly franchise everyone needs to hate on, mostly by the new one being filed under a big fat 'meh' by most people.
No, it's time to take on the real evil, the truly top level genius evil, that appears yearly to the sound of 'ker-ching!' and EA executives giving each other 'handshakes' over a job well done.
I'm talking of course about FIFA15.
A game so devoid of actual gameplay improvements they've had to start coming up with ridiculous things. Like the players getting emotional.
Seriously? That's your big sell? The players get visibly annoyed if they get fouled or really happy when they score. Didn't they do the second one anyway, you know with the celebrations that go on for far too long?
And if they're annoyed, do they play any worse? Well, no silly that would affect the game balance.
Riiiight. So basically, you've added some vaguely reactive animations that functionally, do nothing?
Oh and the goal keepers are apparently 'less shit' than they were last year.
And you want me to spend £50 on this?
Just so all the progress I made with my ultimate team can be reset?
Just so all the people with more money then sense can fork over another insane sum of cash to buy Messi, rather than having to play approximately a billion games in order to acquire him legitimately.
Just so we can line EA's pockets with more gold...
It's a really sorry state of affairs when consumers are too stupid to notice they're being shafted on a yearly basis, twice this year actually, with the addition of the special World Cup edition.
Or there's an even worse and perhaps more likely scenario, where they know they're being drained for cash but buy the damn thing regardless.
That's the prevailing attitude I get from people I know, who wouldn't label themselves as 'hardcore gamers'. The average man on the street cares not a jot for the politics of the gaming industry, it's simply: 'That time of the year when I buy the next FIFA game, maybe I'll take a day off and ignore my wife/girlfriend...'
I almost find it sickening. There must be a better way than this? Surely?
The irony is that the FIFA games are pretty good; if you want to play virtual football, there's none better.
It's just that the copy of FIFA11 I picked up for 49 whole pence serves just as well as the brand new version that costs 100 times the price...
I don't hate FIFA, I simply hate what it represents: an industry that churns out the same thing over and over for profit and a world where people lap it up and say 'Yes please, take my money again for the same thing I've already bought for the last five years'.
My advice: Don't buy it. You're not some cash cow that's to be milked yearly. Act like it.
Hey! Listen!
