KLA ART 18 - public art in Kampala

Afrika Mashiriki is a project initiated by Rasheeda Nalumoso to engage with East African performance making and practices across digital media and gaming. Africa Mashiriki is supported as a Arts Council England and British Council International Artist Development Fund 2016 project. 

Supporting the delivery of Ugandan artist Sanaa Gateja’s ‘Lubare and The Boat’ the project will facilitate new dialogue across performance and making practices, oral literature and the sharing of local heritage and histories across across new platforms. 

‘‘Lubare and the Boat’’ will culminate in a large-scale outdoor dance performance in Kampala in June 2017. ‘‘The Lubare and The Boat’’ is a programme of work led by artist Sanaa Gateja that has engaged communities in both Scotland and Uganda, culminating in the creation of new outdoor performance work. The project is supported by 32 Degrees East.

Don’t Knock Tap - The Living Legends Project

In 2014 I was lead Project Coordinator for Don’t Knock Tap, the Hackney Empire’s young people performance directed by Susie McKenna in July 2014 and featuring Black British tapper and living legend Steve Clark. 

The Living Legends Project is a HLF funded project curated by Leon Robinson.

Nuff Said?: was a new Arts Council Funded arts installation project in Autumn 2014 which combined animation, archive and multi-media to consider the mind, body and voice of African descendants through history. The project brought together a new group of artists to zigzag, coast, prod, and illuminate African diaspora social history. Project Co-ordinator, Family Tree Pilot Programme

Project Co-ordinator, Family Tree Pilot Programme for Link Up (UK) September 2013 – Current

Working with Goldsmiths University and West Ham Football Club, The Family Tree pilot programme will create a digital ‘family tree’ of Newham. Project managing local teams and community groups including 60 young researchers to look at how the diverse communities of Newham have shaped the modern-day culture and development of the area. The findings will be created into both an interactive portable digital interface and  innovative interactive website.

Education Producer with the Spoken Word Education Programme

Spoken Word Educators work with young people who may not otherwise get access to arts opportunities, with a range of complex issues that affect their lives and engagement in learning.

Community Projects Co-ordinator, The Tree of Light

Sep 2011 - July 2012

The two year project brought together 40 diverse community groups from around Oxford, Reading, Henley and Windsor, and culminated in a number of large scale celebrations – involving over 1200 performers – during the summer of 2012. The tree itself was a monumental, sculpted work of art, created by innovative high tech theatrical design duo Block9.
