Ravana is NOT a beetle!

Take a look at Ravana’s form. He has the two antennae, many limbs, and two wings. He has a sharp face with grim eyes. He has a slender form that doesn’t match well with a beetle’s more thickly armored form. 

Take a look at this little creature. On the scale of insect stings, it ranks as the second MOST PAINFUL sting in the entire world. And it shares many of the same features as Ravana.

Ravana is a TARANTULA HAWK! 

We can ascertain that (if SE was trying to be close to representation) Ravana isn’t a beetle because he shares a form more closely related to the Tarantula Hawk: he is clearly split by a very thin waist with two larger sections; his chest and his abdomen are separate due to said waist. His antennae curve and his face give much of the same silhouette as a Tarantula Hawk. And let’s not forget that the Tarantula Hawk and Ravana share the same number of limbs. 

The Tarantula Hawk’s sting is incredibly powerful and puts its prey into a state of paralysis. However, males of the species cannot sting and thus would be why Ravana uses swords instead of a stinger and why he has no venom or posion type abilities.

It had been an especially cold night in Ishgard. A notably large storm had hit the city and even as Ginko sat curled by the fireplace in his room at The Forgotten Knight it did little to soothe his frozen bones. He’d been called up to do some repair work for a small noble house. They’d demanded the work done fast, but the pay was good enough that he hadn’t minded. Only now, with the storm hitting the city, the weather made heading back home near impossible.

A chiming caught his attention, he’d nearly not heard it over the crackle of the fire and the rattle of the wind on the windows. It was his linkpearl, over on the bedside table. He clambered onto his feet, keeping himself snugly wrapped in his blankets, and plodded over to the linkpearl. Once it was in his ear he answered cautiously. “‘Ello?” there was a pause before a tired and stressed but familiar voice came through. “Ah, yes! Hello. This is Jessie Jaye, Deputy President of Garlond Ironworks. This is Ginko right? I heard you were in town and we need some extra hands getting our Manacutters up and running, any chance you’re free to lend a hand? Usually pay of course.” Pay and a warm workshop to kill time in? It certainly beat skulking around the inn and waiting for the storm to pass. “Aye, yer gotch’ yerself a deal, see yer in a few, Ms Jaye.”

They’d holed themselves up in the Skysteel Manufactory, the place looked like a war zone. Airship parts, scrap metal and tools littered the workshop. Ginko immediately recognised a few of the faces about, people he’d done jobs with or seen around Garlond Ironworks, a few others were like him, free lance engineers. Jessie was stood giving orders to people when she spotted Ginko and beckoned him over. She quickly got him up to speed and told him where he was needed. Apparently they’d been flying their Manacutter 2.0 when the storm blew over and several fliers collided with a hidden cluster of floating rocks. Thankfully no one was seriously injured save for the airships, and they needed them ready by yesterday.

They worked long into the night. At some point a few of the free lancers left to get some rest while the rest of them continued onwards.

Ginko wasn’t used to the busy environment the Garlond Ironworks bred, but he didn’t dislike it. His usual quiet humming to himself was replaced with lively chatter and laughter. By the time they’d completed all the work on the cutters, day break had long since passed, and with his job all done, Ginko collected his pay and left with only a few short goodbyes. 

It wasn’t until halfway back to the inn he noticed it, a coldness in him, not from the blizzardly weather around him, but from the realisation of how lonely he’d become, and of how much he missed having a company to work alongside.

For the first time in what felt like forever, he wanted to be part of something greater than himself again, he wanted to find a home.

Ginko builds toy airships, sometimes as prototypes of real ships he is working on and sometimes just for fun. He gave a bunch away to the Doman refugee kids in Mor Dhona the last time he visited there for work. He has a small collection of his favourite ships at home.
