This reminds me of a time my friend and their partner came around for dinner. We were cooking together and the partner (all five foot of simmering rage) needed something from the top of the pantry cupboard. I, being knowledgeable of their temper yet somehow ignorant of their touchiness over their height, offered to get it for them to avoid clambering on the counter.

They threatened to stab me if I ever offered again.

as a fellow short person, I can attest that being reminded that people ive known since they were in diapers are now taller than me is not the mind-blowing knowledge I want

Ok but like helping me when I genuinely need it or making a joke when we are good friends and it’s actually funny, well-timed, and not overused is fine. I’ll laugh.

But if I don’t know you well—especially if we are just meeting—and you say something like “wow, how do you reach the pedals of your car?” or “you’re like the size of my ten year old nephew!” or even just “oh, you’re so short for an adult!”, you’ve lost ankle privileges.

Believe me, we don’t need to be told. So many people think they’re the first people to tell us we’re short and it’s fascinating 😭
