i'm pretty sure this is the most beautiful place on earth... anyone and everyone should go to iceland at least once in their life. i had the privilege of visiting back in june.

a morning run...
after running the NYC half last weekend, i realized how much fun it can be to run outside of the confines of Central Park. So this morning i left my safety net and headed downtown.. my first trek (running that is) across the Brooklyn Bridge. i got a later start than i had hoped, and the tourists were already out in full force by 9:30am, but i still made my way across, stopped for a few pictures, continued on and crossed back over to Manhattan. feeling ever so inspired, i continued up the streets of manhattan and ended up in washington square park..my old stomping grounds in the 90's as an nyu undergrad. what i would do to sit next to the liz of 92 and tell her all that has happened in almost 20 years. she would probably look at me with some annoyance with my compression tights and beat up mizuno's... but wow, what an epic run i had this morning. i need to start running these bridges more often.
nothing like stepping out of one's comfort zone to get a greater perspective on life.

last night i volunteered to help my amazing and talented friend (both on and off the road) Gail Winiecki create a peeps diorama to enter into a contest at Jack Rabbit (a local favorite running store).. i did some painting, dressed up some peeps, made a few signs... but she was the real visionary on this one... i can only take credit for a few details and the swim photo from the NYC triathlon two summers ago.
So ladies and gentleman. let me present to you the WINNING Peeps diorama. you can see it in person at the Jack Rabbit store on the west side on 72nd street. it will be proudly displayed in the store front window.
(lets hope those peeps don't melt!!)
Today, on the occasion of the globe’s most famous and recognizable puppet troupe, the Muppets, finally receiving a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, and in recognition of the Bairds’ pioneering work with marionettes and other fancifully manipulated creatures -— work that inspired the likes of the late, great father of the Muppets, Jim Hensen himself, to create a universe from wood and felt and string — LIFE.com celebrates the Bairds’ brilliance with a gallery of photos from a U.S. State Department-sponsored tour of India in 1962.
“Don’t think of puppets as little instant people,” advised master puppeteer Bil Baird in a profile on he and his wife Cora in the Feb. 1, 1963, issue of LIFE. “They have to be more than people, or less, or sharper, somehow more exaggerated — and then you just can’t beat them for kidding human pomposity and sham.”
some days, my job is just too much fun. i loved researching this one... if these images don't make you smile, i really don't know what will.

imagine what i could accomplish if i had a trainer and ran with a club.
my point being here- is that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. nothing comes easy - work is involved. but when it's worth it, it's worth it.
never give up on anything.
after 2 months of training and well over 200 miles on my legs, the time has finally come to run this. the weather is supposed to be perfect, 15,000 runners, olympic athletes. i'm beyond excited. 2012 has been quite a year. once i get my second half under my belt, i'll start focusing on the full marathon. new york or paris - it's totally happening.
Since January 1st - i have been training up to this. 200 miles later, and one week to go. i can't wait to be lapped by the olympic athletes in central park. what a privilege.

From our previous post, this is the inaugural edition of a planned series of “Behind the Picture” galleries, LIFE.com offers some of the marvelous photographs Bourke-White made that have been long associated with the Great Depression — that LIFE actually published in the aftermath of the Great Ohio River Flood of 1937. In addition, a number of equally powerful, unpublished images from the same assignment — pictures that never made it into the magazine, but that nevertheless commemorate a great photojournalist, and the dignity of a people enduring what must have felt, at the time, like an age of unending troubles.

here are my new compression tights... never thought the day would come when i'd own a pair of these... but i will say, they are a dream to run in (in the cold)....
