i am still thinking about the finger guns (a sentence i never thought i'd write) and peter. sweetheart. what the fuck. how did you manage to take the gesture that started their downfall and turn it into something completely different, and yet still so closely related to that? of course, i know, it is open to interpretation, but as i watched that final scene in the yard and in the wake of that cigarette they shared, it just... it clicked for me: that is jimmy saying "we're on again. let's do something together", and it has nothing to do with scams or cons, it's entirely about them. as bob stated, it's jimmy saying, "we had fun together, but it doesn't have to be at the expense of others, because we're good, that good together"; as rhea stated, it's him saying "we still have a relationship, a special one, let's do something legal and different together, no matter what".
and at that point kim has been shaking and crying because she doesn't want to leave him there, and when he does the finger guns, she doesn't turn away. she just looks at him, takes it all in before she has to leave. and then she turns around, to catch every glimpse of him before he's gone. it's not a straightforward answer, nor a nod, it's her responding automatically because she loves him: she just can't stop looking at him, she can't let go of him. her eyes say everything she otherwise can't.
it was a love story. it ended with one last gesture symbolizing a love that is about to endure, because no federal prison can trap it. no ghost of the past can haunt it anymore. and it's more real than it ever was.
Maybe you haven’t seen the photo but there’s a shot I saw where you see her with the fingers too, but she has them holstered, waiting for the guard to open the gate
