Lucius pursed his lips together, fearing he’d perhaps said too much. It was a touchy subject, not matter how subtle. But as the Black heir, Lucius had to hope Regulus would accept things and move on. Sooner, rather than later. “Give him this night. I’m sure he’ll be quite alright soon enough, with the right support?” There were plenty of attractive women still around, making Narcissa’s assessment quite valid. “Ah, well. You know him best and he is resourceful, if anything.”
There was a small crowd that had begun to gather, and though it was a chilled night, the fireworks were still a wonder to behold. Lucius lead them to spot a comfortable distance from anyone else, but not too much to look like they were trying to be alone. “Magnificent, don’t you think?” He shifted closer, leaning down to whisper into her ear to be heard above the oohs, aahs, and crackling.
“I hope that you’re right.” Narcissa nodded, sweeping one final glance around the room for her cousin. As worried as she was for him, it really wasn’t something that she wished to talk too much about, especially in the potential reach of so many prying ears.
With Lucius leading her, Narcissa’s attention was on the sky. Regardless of how old she got, fireworks had always been something that she really enjoyed watching, and this evening was no different. The crowd that had begun to gather around them were not there as far as she was concerned, and it wasn’t until Lucius spoke to her that her attention was returned to him once more. “Absolutely.” She replied, turning her head to look up at him. “Thank you for coming here with me this evening.”
“No, thank you. The honor has been mine.” Lucius slow, crooked grin fixed into place as he side stepped to face Narcissa properly. She was radiant this night, and the glow of the fireworks only made her all the more beautiful. His hand was reaching up to brush a stray hair from the side of her face before he even knew it was happening. “Narcissa...I....” Never one to apologize or be at a loss for words, Lucius now found himself expericing both.
These past months had been more than Lucius had ever dreamed they’d be. He had hoped the two of them would become closer, get to really know each other and to his surprise, they had and more. He’d kept himself at a distance still, a defense he’d known his whole life. But now. He knew. Narcissa understood him and he found himself trusting her like no one else.
“I would very much like to kiss you.”
