it's kind of astounding how much faith people have in psychiatry nowadays. approximately every 20 years since psychiatry was invented psychiatrists have come out with a new announcement that everything their profession has ever done was accidentally torture but they've totally stopped being morally bankrupt monsters now and have finally found a way to treat psychotic people that isn't torture so we can all trust them forever now.
"oh we're sorry about beating people to death to drive out demons, we've invented a wonderful operation that will cure your problems and can be done by any wandering yahoo with an icepick!"
"oh we're sorry about giving people permanent brain damage, we've invented a wonderful machine that shocks your brain back into working right!"
"oh we're sorry that was also permanent brain damage we've invented some wonderful pills that can act as a less harmful chemical lobotomy!"
"oh those pills made the entire rest of your body stop working sorry we have new ones that won't do that."
"oh we're sorry those new pills don't do jack shit for your brain while also still giving you tardive dyskinesia. we decided to revisit the old electrocution cure and we swear it works for real and doesn't use enough electricity to give you permanent brain damage anymore allegedly."
