slight  shifting  and  a  low  mutter  next  to  him  pull  byleth  out  of  a  dream  he  can’t  quite  remember  .  something  tense  ,  that  gets  up  under  his  skin  and  makes  him  all  the  more  uneasy  for  the  fuzziness  of  the  memory  .  slowly  ,  blue  eyes  blink  open  ,  squinting  against  the  morning  light  slanting  through  the  window  .  there  are  fingers  in  his  hair  and  he  tips  his  head  back  to  see  his  husband  peering  down  at  him  .  all  thoughts  of  his  tense  dream  vanish  at  the  sight  and  a  bleary  smile  drifts  across  his  face  .

“  ’s  fine  ,  ”  he  slurs  ,  still  not  quite  awake  .  

a  closer  look  at  linhardt’s  face  shows  tension  around  his  eyes  ,  in  the  set  of  his  lips  .  byleth  frowns  and  frees  a  hand  from  the  blankets  to  brush  his  thumb  across  the  furrow  in  linhardt’s  brows  ,  like  he  can rub  away  whatever  worries  him  .

«  Please, you know I didn’t mean to wake you up. » Linhardt began to sign as he leaned into his lover’s touch. Feeling the warm embrace of someone who he trusted and loved more than anything wasn’t something he thought he would ever need until he had finally received it. While the nightmare still held tension in his mind, Byleth’s presence gave him some ease. He traced his fingers through the other’s hair yet again before facing towards the ceiling.

❝ I know that the war and that the fighting is over, but I still can’t help but think about all that had happened. ❞ He held Byleth’s hand and gave him a slight smile. ❝ I love our new life here more than anything-- It is everything I ever could have hoped for, but I... I can’t help but be fearful in care something like what we went through were to happen again. I’m unsure if I could go through more bloodshed. ❞ With a sigh, he kissed Byleth as he returned his gaze towards him.
