Don't have much to post here yet because I'm mostly just doing the boring parts of creating some dungeons
Would you ever make colored art of the familiars or do you want their colors to be completely ambiguous? Or are they all officially black and white except for the rares?
im not sure! I don’t have any particular “normal” colors in mind for these little guys. In fact in general, I don’t really have much canonical stuff in my head that isn’t simply in the game already. But I wouldn’t say they’re officially colorless either. There’s fanart depicting both ways and I like all of it !
I just started playing again and I'm having a lot of fun. I wish we could have some kind of account to log in to so all of our progress is saved, though. I had to reinstall my OS and I lost all my familiars, including my only rare, a Cobby.
Oh no!! I’m sorry! I’ll probably implement a better account system at some point. Still, welcome back!
What do the balls that catch familiars look like, do you think?
I have no idea!!!
To be honest, I kind of want to replace the “ball” with some other mechanic but I don’t know what
which came first ranch or cool ranch
hi erin!!
I am not an anthropologist (IANAA) but as far as I can tell all ranch is cool so I guess they came out at the same time. Hope this helps!!
How do you feel about the community embracing the competitive side of this game so heavily? Was it unexpected?
hi kola!
I love to watch people dissect the strategy and meta of PVP battles!! Familiars was always intended to facilitate competitive play first so I’m really happy things have worked out that way.
the unexpected part is seeing 1) the number of players who have devoted any time to this and 2) whenever players are smarter than me about my own game. And the latter thing especially means I succeeded beyond anything I ever hoped for !
sprites
these sprites are even older, coming from a game I was making back in 2012!!! But you'll notice that Wispy is here, basically unchanged, and a couple other creatures like Prints were derived from monsters here too!
SOMEBODY STOP ME
This mockup post is from october ***2014*** and is probably the origin of familiars.io as we know it today!
url change! since I'm no longer making a game called "184", it's evolved into familiars.io years ago
(sadly "clayloam" was taken)
I wish I could like replies on here. I like to have a button for “hi I see u thank u for saying something to me”
Anyone following me still here?
Trying to decide if it would just be easier to just start a new blog or if I should clean this up
Apparently the answer is “yes, a few!” (Hello!)

I spent over an hour playing your game and I am IN LOVE with the battle animations they're so charming, I think annoy and chomp are my favourites so far
Thank you!!!
(Sorry I'm responding to this like a year and a half later, I have only now just come back to tumblr from twitter for Reasons)
animating some moves in the battle system!! but too lazy to draw anything besides little squares. good enough!!!
By the way, I’m a bit more active on twitter!!!
visual bugs like these are always so fascinating
multiplayer server stress test! there's about 300 bots running around and everything is still running quite smoothly
all thanks to @timetocode 's open-source multiplayer engine, nengi, which has been a real pleasure to use!!!
