What kills me about both Enoch Scarlet and Sibyl is the sheer fucking ego they both have. Enoch thinks that the only way Scarlet Hollow could continue to prosper, after his own willful negligence lead to disaster no less, is a deal with the god damn Devil. Nobody made him do that!!! He could have sold the mines!!! The town would have kept turning!! However his ego demanded that the only Scarlet Hollow permitted to exist is one under his thumb, so here we are. It’s the same with Sibyl; She eats her young for hundreds of years, raising her daughters like pigs for the slaughter, instead of bequeathing her knowledge and power to them and letting them take control of their own fates. Her ego demands that not only is she personally responsible for every tragedy in her vicinity, she is also the only person who could possibly avert them correctly. This insane self-centeredness drives her to facilitate Enoch’s deal, with the end goal of swallowing the devil whole, which is ridiculous. Bonkers. Here we are again!!!

One of my four MCs in Scarlet Hollow! I consider her my main file. Tabby and Reese for height ref. She's around my height (so 5~ft)

(Hopefully she at least looks a little "cousin-like". Didn't wanna make the similarities too obvious lest they look like Tabby's twin lol)

Recently finished Scarlet Hollow Ch4! I really really love it and find it so deeply immersive. But I have one question... Do you think you'd ever consider giving the protagonist the option of revealing they're adopted through dialogue options? It's just sometimes feel a little bit strange when everything else is so customizable to feel like this character is distinctly... White. No offense to anyone of course! It's just kinda jarring to be like "My name is Imran (as an example) and my biological mother was named Vivian" if that makes sense. Not saying there aren't situations like that though. I just think adding that option could actually be really interesting in adding both to immersion and the themes like belonging and sins of the father. It could make a really interesting dynamic.

I totally get if it doesn't fit the vision though, sorry to both you.

Thank you for the note and I'm glad you're enjoying the game ^^ Blood relationships are an important theme in Scarlet Hollow, and while there's a fair bit of room for player customization, there are still baseline facts about the player character that have to be consistent across every playthrough for the story to work as written.

The player must be Vivian's biological child. This still allows room for the protagonist to be mixed-race (part of the reason we never physically display the MC)

The player is Tabitha's younger cousin, but not by a lot.

The player lives in a city, to contrast with the game's setting.

Life in that city is far from ideal, and the player has struggles relating to career and living situation. Try though they might, the city is not the player's Home.

#scarlet hollow #mc being miserable both in their home city and in Scarlet Hollow #but in different ways is an extremely interesting narrative point #you can only choose your outlook (pessimistic vs. optimistic)#but you cannot change the fact that you are exceptionally out of place in the city #the pull of the universe is too strong and the threads of fate are tightening around your neck
