I think why Penelope/Marissa kept tabs on Lockwood & Co. so much was because she thought that Lockwood would be like his parents. I think she was scared he would try and succeed to solve the Problem. And when she learnt that he didn’t care at ALL she was like, “Never mind.” But when she learnt (from Ezekiel?) that Lucy was like HER she was interested and scared. She was scared Lucy would find a Type Three like her and learn all the secrets of the Other Side. What she didn’t bet on most of all was George.

I'm actually not done with this. This nanny is described as a lazy young woman, and it makes me wonder how old she is. Does young woman mean 23? Was she an agent with a big agency forced to retire after her Talent faded? Is she resentful of that loss? How many of her charge's parents' industry magazines can she stand to thumb through before all the talk of ghosts and Talent makes her sick? Did she replace them with the gossip rags Lockwood eventually became so fond of?

Maybe "young woman" means 15, and she never made it into the field- a dud, some would say, born not only without basic psychic awareness but without any Talent whatsoever. Is nannying the only option she has? I wonder if she tried to make small talk about the Lockwoods' life and profession during her interview only to be forced to admit that she doesn't understand the half of it. Did she sit at the bus station afterwards with hot, shameful tears blurring her vision?

I know the story said she quit because she didn't get a paycheck after Anthony and Jessica's parents died. But I reckon the sneaking feeling of a Presence in the house watching over the children that she could never quite pin down, never detect, never identify, yet easily put a name to, didn't encourage her to stay either.

The crazy thing about the Lockwood and co show cliffhanger ending is that if someone who hadn't read the books asked "wait wtf is in that room!?" and u replied "a dead person!!" even that major spoiler doesn't fully account for just how fucked the situation is

I find it hilarious how the second l&c book is called The Whispering Skull because whispering implies that the Skull was being spooky and mysterious- you get the vibe. Well, Skully clearly did not because he was gossiping away in the corner about Lockwood, George, and the door on the landing.
