✸ vintage black beauty is live!
i've been asked where/how to find early-mid 20th century images of black people to reference when drawing/writing/whatever, so i figured i'd link to my own personal resource anyone is welcome to utilize! :)
with over 900 pins and counting, this pinterest board focuses entirely on black style from the 1800s - 1970s. it’s been harder than ever to research historical fashion without running into AI, misinformation, and flat out mislabeling of different eras, so i’ve done my best to represent each period as accurately as i can.
i’ve included sections for non-caricatured art and illustration, print media, music, entertainment, styling tools, and ads. there are also sections for period pieces and more modern takes on vintage style. i did not add the 80s and 90s because there's already a wealth of imagery and information about those decades, but maybe one day :)
Welcome to Taskmaster!!! Would you like to play a game?

Listening to the radio while they report on the SCOTUS ruling yesterday that states can ban specifically trans girls and women from girls/womens sports programs. The people they interview: a trans boy with his cis mother and a trans man. The trans man says one of the things that hampers progress is "no one talks to us." Idk man the radio station didn't talk to any trans women, they talked to you, a trans man. Seems like they are pretty willing to talk to you and not the people this ruling actually directly affects.
genuinely if you talk about “trans kids in sports” and degender trans women and girls who are the specific target of this supreme court decision i hope you die. thomas wrote a 2-page pile of garbage attacking trans women and girls as “men who believe they are women.” and if you post some kind of shit like “we’re all faggots in the eyes of the state” i think you should be blown up
“Leonard Nimoy, who played the most famous TV scientist of all time, Mr. Spock, came from an arts and theater background and in real life is nothing like his character. Yet he told me that because Mr. Spock and “Star Trek” have inspired so many young viewers to become scientists, researchers who meet him are always desperate to give him lab tours and explain the projects they’re pursuing in peer-to-peer terms. Mr. Nimoy nods sagely and intones to each one, ‘Well, it certainly looks like you’re headed in the right direction.’”

ladies… has anyone ever told you it’s okay to be feminine 🩷 i’m sure no one has ever ever ever reinforced this deeply held secret, that’s it’s okay for you to be feminine. 🩷 i know the world totally tries to tell you that you have to be manly and masculine and grow your body hair and eat as much as you want and get strong and stand up for yourself and make waves and take up space and show your bare face and show your anger. but it’s okay to do the exact opposite actually. 🩷 it’s okay to shrink yourself down to the exact same mold every other woman is expected to conform to. 🩷 did you know that it’s okay to be feminine. 🩷 did you know it’s okay to be feminine. 🩷 did you know it’s okay to be feminine. 🩷 has anyone ever told you it’s okay to be feminine. 🩷 will you be feminine. 🩷 will you be feminine. 🩷 will you be feminine. 🩷 will you just be feminine already. 🩷🩷🩷
Iran were hustled out of the United States so quickly that the team’s players had to be iced and bandaged on the plane back to their base in Mexico. [...]
The impact on players has been so disruptive that it is hard to fully estimate, Mr. Araujo said. Iran’s squad has had to make do without its media officers, analysts and other staff members required to carry out crucial tasks like managing mid-game substitutions. [...]
Boarding the plane presented its own challenges. A checkpoint was set up yards from their airplane, where two at a time, Iran’s players and delegation underwent a second screening after already having cleared security checks and passport control inside the airport. “It took more than three hours to get inside the plane,” Mr. Araujo said.
new york war crimes
this is security theatre performed solely to humiliate the completely civilian representatives of another country and arguably, a bit of cheating to prevent even a minor bit of sporting success that could rally the iranian people and/or make the usmnt look bad.

Animation I made as a tribute to Louis Wain, both to his art and him as a person, I hope my animations convey how comforting I find his art. Each cat is drawn on paper❤️ “I am happy because everyone loves me”

no actually i want to talk about how fucked it is yet how much it makes sense that you can ‘save’ cuno from his situation but not cunoesse. because the way you get through to cuno is by emphasizing how scary cunoesse is to him; by separating them.
and, yeah, part of it is because cunoesse is more verbally aggressive and harder to get through to. but i really think a significant part of it as well is the difference in how harry is able to empathize with cuno and cunoesse respectively—and thus how we as players tend to end up empathizing with them.
harry can see himself in cuno. and even though the future he can give him with the rcm isnt exactly… ideal in any way, it’s still giving him a chance. the way harry sees cunoesse, on the other hand, is from a more distant lens. he can acknowledge that she needs professional help, but he doesn’t want to engage with her. she’s the scary little girl who’s killed people and lashes out. harry’s type of Cop empathy doesn’t give him the skill set to understand and sympathize with her. and it’s just. so tragic and realistic. idk.
