âAce.â
Rory once remembered a time when they were still at Yale and he first called her that, that she hated it. Â She had thought it was some way to further get under her skin, but as time went on, it became a sort of pet name for her, something that only Logan ever called her. Â Did he have any special nickname for Odette, she wondered, sniffing, a small laugh breaking through her tears. Â âMaybe worse,â she muttered, voice slightly raspy, even if she looked up at Logan, her eyes always seeming much more blue when she cried. Â He always did know how to make her feel better, even if it was the last thing she felt she wanted, or now, deserved. Â
With a small nod of her head, she agreed for the idea of takeout, letting Logan lead her into the apartment -flat- when she suddenly felt⌠out of place.  Sure this had been where she spent most of her time, her things scattered here and there, her collection of phones lined up on the coffee table just to make sure she always knew where they each were.  However now, it didnât feel like her second home anymore, she felt like a stranger here, or like she wasnât welcomed.  As she looked back to Logan, rummaging through various takeout menus sheâs sure he only collects out of habit for her, he was the only thing that made this feel⌠like home. Â
Sitting on the couch, Rory doubled over, taking a deep and steady breath, then sitting back up and forcing the smallest of smiles, her face blotchy.  âI donât know if this is even real right now.  I mean, youâre looking between Thai food or Chinese, and Iâm⌠Basically in the same situation as my mom was.  Iâm an adult, and Iâm living with my mother, working at the news paper of my small hometown, and Iâm here.  In London.  Pregnant.  Pregnant with a manâs baby who is engaged still, which just makes everything more complicated.â  Another deep sigh, running a hand through her hair.  Her life was a freaking mess right now, and if her younger ambitious self could see her now, she would think it was some messed up nightmare. Â
âIâm keeping it, and Chinese sounds good. Â And egg rolls.â
There was really no sense in trying to make, well, sense of all of this on an empty stomach. Â
Logan gave her an empathetic smile as she looked up at him, hating at just how sad her blue eyes looked. It threw him back ten years or so, remembering all the times sheâd been down during their relationship and how heâd been there to pick her back up.
That was what he was planning on doing now, picking her up once more. Rory didnât need much and she was a strong enough person to get back on her feet again herself, but there was no harm in him holding out a hand to help her up.Â
In fact, he wasnât planning on letting her do any of this alone. He was sure that she already had an entire support network around her, from Lorelai and Luke to Paris and Lane. But he wanted to be there too, he wanted to take this journey with her. Theyâd had so many adventures already and this just seemed like it was going to be the next one.Â
Logan closed the door behind her as she stepped into the apartment, grabbing some takeout menus before going to sit on the couch next to her. They had always been a physically close couple, enjoying cuddling up to each other on the couch but he left a space between them as he took a seat next to her. It wasnât that he didnât want to just hold her in his arms, but he didnât know where they stood or whether sheâd just push him away.
He was reading through a few of the takeout menus when Rory started babbling about what a mess her life was. He listened to her, thinking over how to reply as she finished. Sheâd mentioned his engagement, which was pretty much over in his mind already. He just didnât love Odette like he loved Rory, even after all these years.
âChinese it is then.â Logan nodded, digging out his phone to call the number on the menu. âDo you just want your usual?â He asked, still remembering Roryâs usual Chinese order from their dating days. âWith extra egg rolls of course.âÂ
He had tons of useless facts like that memorised, including her takeout orders and favourite songs. It was like his brain just refused to forget her or anything about her. Heâd been clinging to memories for years, not wanting to let go.Â
âAnd well look how your momâs situation turned out.â Logan added, now addressing Roryâs main points. âShe had you, and you turned out into a wonderful human being. Youâre going to be an amazing mom and our kid will be just as great.â He smiled, the idea of saying âour kidâ in a serious context seemingly crazily surreal.
He didnât know how exactly to broach the engagement topic so he decided to just tell her what heâd already decided and see what she said.Â
âIâm going to call off the engagement to Odette. I want to do this thing with you, Rory.âÂ
