AVATAR AANG: THE LAST AIRBENDER 2026, dir. Lauren Montgomery
Looking crazy
Take my gay cats, Tumblr!
This is part 1, the next part will be gender identity centered :)
fame is a gun
idol!reader x assassin!lohen (+ small art in the middle !)
synopsis: Lohen is an assassin who thrive on the thrill of the huntâespecially the moment fear breaks in his targets' eyes. But when tasked with eliminating a famous idol, you had offered acceptance rather than fear and that single moment turns his mission into a twisted game: he will show you life beyond the stage before ending it at your peak. However, the more he pulls you into the world, the more he dreads for the end.
contains: 10.9k wc, female reader, modern au, depressive themes, mentions of death/suicidal ideation, attempted murder, psychological distress, implication of eating disorders, violence, controversial (?) takes on the idol industry, lohen might be ooc, fluff with a bit of angst
notes: this came out longer than i expected it to be but i just couldn't stop when i started..whoops. tbh i saw an edit of lohen with 'fame is a gun' as the audio and instantly got inspired to write this. (somehow i always get ideas on trains LOL) not beta read, so please excuse any mistakes aso i rlly cant draw anatomy or do any rendering so yikes..
STAGE 0. THE MISSION
'M1RAGE'
Almost everyone knew of them. Even those who had never deliberately followed idols had, at some point, heard of their songs drifting through public spacesâplaying softly in stores, trending in edit across countless fandoms, woven into the background of a world that never seemed to stop talking about them.
So it was no surprise that Lohen recognised the name the moment it appeared in the file handed to him.
But what did interest him was not the group iteselfâit was the specific target.
[Name]
Of course he knew who you were too.
It would have been difficult not to.
You were, by far, M1RAGE's most popular member.
Your face was impossible to avoid. Billboards stretched across city skylines, advertisements flashed your image beside brands, and your smile had been perfected into something both inviting and untouchable. Entire marketing campaigns seemed to orbit around your existence. It was said that anything you endorsed would sell without questionâthat your name alone could influence markets.
That was the kind of fame you held.
Which made the assignment almost amusing.
You who were adored by millions.
A person whose every movement was documented, discussed, and scrutinised by the public.
And yet someone, somewhere, had still decided that your life was worth paying to erase.
"Hm."
Lohen rested his chin against one hand, eyes lingering on the photograph clipped to the file.
His gaze lingered for a moment before he flipped to the next page.
"I wonder what you're actually like.."
The thought appeared and disappeared just as quickly.
It didn't matter.
People were people.
Once the fear set in, they all become predictable.
The paper shifted quietly beneath his gloved fingers as he reviewed the remaining details. At some point, a small dagger found its way into his hand. He rolled it lazily between his knuckles, the polished blade catching the light before disappearing again.
"I wonder why the Grandmaster accepted such a case?"
No answer came.
Not that he expected one anyways.
With a small shrug, he closed the file.
"Eh, not my concern."
If it was a job assigned to him, then it would be completed the same way as all the othersâwithout hesitation nor questions.
His eyes drifted back toward the photograph one last time and a grin tugged at the corner of his mouth.
"Still.."
The dagger stopped spinning.
"I wonder what face you'll make when you realise you're going to die?"
STAGE 1. THE TARGET WHO WASN'T AFRAID.
Now standing on the rooftop a short distance away from the massive stage where M1RAGE was set to perform, Lohen blended into the night without effort.
His dark clothing absorbed what little light remained, turning him into something indistinct against the skyline. From below, the city was noise and colour, thousands of voices merging into a single living thing, but up here everything felt distanct, reduced to silence.
He exhaled once as he set the case down and opened it with practiced precision.
The sniper came together in his hands piece by piece, each movement calm and familiar to him, guided by repetition rather than thought. After years of doing this, assembling a weapon felt no different than buttoning a shirt or tying a knot.
Tonight's plan was simple.
A warning.
The purpose wasn't to end your life tonight. Death was far too quick to be satisfying. No, that would come later, after anticipation had been given enough time to fester into something uglier.
He had chosen the rooftop carefully, sacrificing the perfect firing angle for one that offered greater visibility. The distance was still more than enough to gurantee the shot, yet close enough that, if fortune favoured him, your eyes might catch the sihouette of a man standing against the night, a sniper rifle resting in his hands.
Recognition was all he needed.
Fear would do the rest.
Lohen could already picture it unfolding. The exact moment when the illusion of safety shattered beneath the realisation that someone was out to harm you.
The sleepless nights that followed.
The bodyguards.
The constant glances over your shoulder and the way every unfamiliar face would become a potential threat.
Paranoia had a way of hollowing people out from the insideâit was slow but relentless, almost beautiful in its efficiency to wear someone down.
By the time he returned to deliver the final blow, most of his targets had already done half of the work for him. Exhaustion had stripped away their judgement and fear clouded instinct, leaving them isolated and vulnerable.
He wondered which kind you would be.
Would you scream, like so many before you, your voice tearing itself apart as reality finally caught up to you?
Or would you belong to the quieter onesâthe people whose terror swallowed every sound before it could escape, whose mouth opened but whose voices never came, frozen in the suffocating grip of panic?
The thought of his past victims earned the faintest smile.
As time passed, the performance began.
The stadium exploded into life.
Floodlights carved through the darkness in sweeping arcs while music thundered across the area hard enough to rattle the steel beneath his boots. Ten of thousands of voices merged into a deafening roar as M1RAGE emerged beneath a storm of colour, smoke and blinding white light.
Lohen shifted without hurry, settling comfortably against the concrete ledge.
The sniper rifle rose in one fluid motion, fitting naturally against his shoulder. Within seconds, he'd found the perfect angle, his breathing slowing until even his heartbeat seemed to fade into the silence inside his own head.
Through the scope, the world tightened into focus, everything outside the frame dissolving into irrelevant blur. The stage became sharp under the flood of lights, the crowd an indistinct wave of movement and sound.
And at the centre of it allâ
You.
For a brief moment, he understood why people became so obsessed.
The stage seemed built around you.
Even surrounded by your group members, attention drifted toward you effortlessly, drawn by some quality he couldn't immediately name.
Perhaps it was charisma.
Perhaps it was the effortless confidence of someone accustomed to standing beneath the gaze of thousands.
Whatever it was, it made sense why your face was everywhere.
Lohen adjusted his breathing again, allowing the rifle to settle naturally into position. His finger rested against the trigger, simply waiting.
Timing mattered more than accuracy.
Accuracy had never been the difficult part.
He centred the crosshair over your face.
But then your gaze shifted.
It rose from the crowd, past the cameras, the building stage lights, and setlled somewhere far beyond. It aligned with his position with unsettling accuracy, as if the distance between you had never existed at all.
He held his breath, wondering if you were going to screamâ
And then you smiled.
Right at him.
As though acknowledging his existence up there was no different than acknowledging a member of an audience.
For a moment, Lohen simply observed you.
Fear was something he knew intimately.
He'd watched it bloom in countless forms. Shock that cracked across someone's face before they understood what was happening. Denial that stubbornly insisted everything was fine until reality became impossible to ignore. Blind panic that sent people running without direction, convinced movement alone could outrun death.
Those reactions were familiar to him, predictable enough that he could anticipate them before they formed. Even the ones who hide it still leaked somethingâfear, confusion, that ugly little instinct to survive.
What he was seeing now didn't belong to any of those categories.
There was no break in your performance. You moved through the choreography with effortless precision, laughing with your members, waving towards the crowd as though nothing had happened.
As though meeting the gaze of someone pointing a rifle at your head hadn't interrupted your evening in the slightest.
Lohen let out a low delighted sound under his breath, his thumb tracing the edge of the scope absently as he watched you continue your performance without a single visible fracture.
"Oh? That's not right.."
He leaned back slightly from the scope, just enought for his eyes to leave the lens for a moment, but his weapon stayed trained forward regardless, held steady by muscle memory alone.
One hand rose to his face, and with slow, unhurried motion, he pulled his mask down. The cool air hit his skin, but he barely registered it.
It felt unnecessary to keep hiding behind it now.
He then leaned forward again, but not to aim properlyâjust to look. To confirm what he already knew he was seeing.
"No trembling," he murmured, almost fascinated. His eyes tracked your movements effortlessly as you crossed the stage, "No hesitation...no nervous eye movements.."
The grin forming on his face widened.
"That's new."
His heartbeat had always remained steady during jobs. Now, however, he could feel his pulse quickening in excitement.
Because for the first time in a very long while, something unexpected had happened.
Every assignment before this had followed the same predictable progression.
He locates the target, the target realises they're being hunted, fear takes root and they try to run only to be hunted down by Lohen with quiet efficiency.
Whether they screamed, begged or fought, the ending never changed.
He still enjoyed the hunt, but even enjoyment dulled when every chase ended the same way.
Predictability was efficient, but efficiency was boring.
Then there was you.
You had looked toward the rifle aimed at your head with impossible precision, met the gaze of the man behind it, and smiled.
Not the brittle smile of someone pretending everything was fine or the strained composure of someone refusing to panic.
A genuine smile.
As though the possibility of death standing hundreds of meters away wasn't alarming enough to deserve even a second thought.
A quiet laugh escaped him, richer this time, carrying amusement.
"This isn't how prey behaves.."
His finger eased away from the trigger without him consciously deciding to do so. The shot he'd been preparing moments earlier no longer held any appeal.
Instead, this attention fixed entirely on you, studying you as you moved around.
Either you possessed extraordinary control over your emotions..
Or you really didn't fear him.
And it seems it was the second possiblity which made it far more interesting.
What would make you afraid?
"I guess," he said softly, grin unwavering. "There's a change of plans."
Slipping backstage proved almost laughably easy. Security existed to keep fans out, not people like him.
By the time anyone realised an unfamiliar face had wandered into the restricted area, he was already seated comfortably in the makeup chair inside your dressing room.
He leaned back in the chair as though it belong to him, lazily spinning in slow circles while his gloved fingertips drummed against the armrests. His eyes wandered across the neatly arranged cosmetics, bouquets of congratulatory flowers, and handwritten letters from fans scattered across the vanity.
The company must have really liked your group to give everyone their own private rooms.
The door opened.
You stepped inside, still dressed in your performance outfit. Sweat clung to the loose strands of hair framing your face, and a towel rested around your shoulders as you closed the door behind you with a tired sigh.
The moment your eyes landed on the stranger occupying your seat, you paused.
Confusion crossed your features before melting into polite concern.
"Oh." you said, offering the same practiced smile that had greeted thousands of fans only minutes earlier. "Are you..a fan? I don't think visitors are allowed backstage."
"I wasn't"
The chair completed one final turn before Lohen planted both feet on the floor, bringing it to a smooth stop. He rested his elbow against the armrest, supporting his chin with one hand as a slow smirk spread across his face.
"But maybe I am now."
His gaze lingered on yours for a long, thoughtful moment, as though he were comparing the person standing before him to the one he'd watched through the rifle scope earlier.
"Tell me something."
You tilting your head slightly, waiting.
"When you looked toward the rooftop during the concert," His tone remained almost conversational, "..what did you see?"
Recognition flickered across your face.
"Oh..! Were you perhaps the fan up there?"
Lohen blinked, "..What?"
"Our concerts usually sell out almost immediately." A quiet laugh escaped you, "I figured maybe a fan couldn't get a ticket and decided the rooftop was the next best thing."
For the first time since you'd entered the room, genuine amusement crossed Lohen's face.
"You looked at someone trespassing on a rooftop," he said, leaning back on the chair, one hand coming up to cover part of his mouth as delight flickered openly across his face. "And somehow concluded they're just an overly enthusiastic fan?"
"It sounds ridiculous when I say it out loud." You hum, shaking your head at yourself. "But fans have done stranger things before. Some followed our vans..climbed fences, waited outside venues for hours just to wave at us for a few seconds.." You shrugged lightly. "Going up to a rooftop to see a concert didn't seem impossible."
"No.." His grin lingered for another moment before dropping slightly. "I suppose it wouldn't" he sighed.
No wonder you smiled.
His eyes remained on you, studying you with the same careful attention he'd given you through the scope earlier.
"Ah a shame..I made sure you could see me, you know?"
The sudden confession of his made you raise an eyebrow.
Lohen leaned back further into the chair, lifting one ankle and casually resting it over the opposite knee as though he were reminiscing about a pleasant evening rather than discussing an attempted assassination. His fingers drummed a slow rhythm against the armrest once again.
"I even gave up a better firing position for one where the sihouette would be obvious! Plus my rifle was exposed."
Your brows knit together.
"Rifle?"
A quiet laugh escaped him before he could stop it. He straightened in his seat, one gloved hand lifting as if presenting an invisble outline in the air, his eyes brightening with mischief.
"Yes indeed! If you had seen it instead of merely thinking I was a fan.." He paused, tilting his head as though picturing the scene all over again. A grin tugged at the corner of his mouth. "I wonder..."
His voice trailed off, entertained by the thought more than the answer.
You lowered your gaze, smoothing an absent wrinkle from the towel draped around your shoulders. Your fingertips lingered against the soft fabric as you searched for the words.
"I..If I had been shot by your said rifle, then at least I would've died with a smile."
The smile disappeared from Lohen's face.
The tapping of his fingers stopped.
He didn't laugh. Instead, he watched you in complete silence, searching your expression for the slightest crackâfor a nervours smile, an exaggerated flourish, anything that might reveal it as a joke.
Finding none, he slowly leaned forward, resting his forearms on his knees.
"...You're remarkably accepting of death."
You met his gaze before giving a small shake of your head.
"No..I don't think that's quite right." you countered, "I don't want to die. But if I had seen the rifle from the start, I don't think panicking would've changed anything either."
Your eyes drifted toward the brightly lit vanity mirror. Under its glow, your reflection still looked every bit the perfect idol, immaculate beneath the makeup and stage lights, even as exhaustion settled heavily across your shoulders.
"Are you here to finish me off?"
Silence settled over the dressing room.
For several long seconds, Lohen remained perfectly still, his gaze fixed on you without wavering. Then, with an almost inaudible sigh, he rose from the chair.
The soft squeak of its wheels echoed across the room as he stepped away from it. One hand slipped into his pocket while the other idly adjusted the cuff of his glove.
Rather than stopping, he wandered a slow circle around the dressing room, his fingertips brushing over the edge of the vanity, lingering briefly against a bouquet of congratulatory flowers before absentmindedly straightening one of the ribbons tied around it.
Only then did he stopânow a few paces from you.
Close enough now that you could see the faint glint returning to his eyes.
"No."
He turned back to the nearest bouquet, plucking a loose petal from a flower, rolling it between his fingers before letting it flutter to the floor.
"That would be dreadfully dull."
"Dull?"
"You know what I enjoy most?" he asked quietly, picking up one of the neatly wrapped gifts from the vanity next. He turned it over in his hands with idle curiousity before setting it back exactly where he found it. "It isn't the killing."
You stayed silent, and that seems to encourage him to continue more.
"It's the waiting."
He wandered a few more steps, aware that your eyes were following him wherever he went.
"I enjoy the part before the ending." A faint smile tugged at his lips. "The part where people realise someone is after them. That they have too much left to lose..and suddenly become desperate to survive."
He turned around, back now facing you as his hand came to rest against the vanity.
"They stop sleeping properly. They start second guessing every sound, every shadow. Every stranger who glances at them for a second too long becomes a suspect." He chuckled quietly. "Eventually, even familiar faces begin to feel wrong."
Looking up, he looked at your reflection in the mirror rather than at you directly, "By the time I return," he mumured, almost thoughtfully, "most of them have already started falling apart on their own."
Only then did his eyes leave your reflection to meet yours.
"But you..."
A quiet breath escaped him, somewhere between disappointment and reluctant curiousity. He studied you for another long moment, his head tilting almost imperceptibly, as though he were discarding one conclusion in favour of another.
"..You already accepted the possibility."
"I didn't say that."
The protest came more quickly than you intended, though even to your own ears it lacked conviction. Your grip tightened around the towel before slowly easing again.
"You didn't have to." he replied, almost gently, as if correcting something self-evident instead of arguing with you.
That made you fall quiet.
Lohen regarded you for another few seconds before speaking again, his voice stripped of any of the playfullness he had from before.
"You bore me."
The words should have stung.
Instead, they landed with surprising indifference, less an insult and more of an..honest conclusion. The disappointment on his face lingered only briefly before something brighter took its places.
His eyes sharpened, the corners of his mouth lifting as though he'd stumbled across a puzzle he hadn't expected to enjoy.
"And yet." he smiled. "You fascinate me more."
"Becauseee," he let the word linger, almost savouring it. "I've never met anyone who reacts quite like you do."
The room fell silent once again.
"If that's true.." Your fingers finally released the towel, dropping back down to your side, "..maybe you're simply early."
Lohen tilt his head.
"Early? Do explain."
"You said you enjoy watching people become afraid when they realise they have something to lose."
You slowly met his gaze again.
"If that's what you're looking for.." A faint, almost apologetic smile touched your lips. "Then perhaps I don't have enough to lose yet."
Something unreadable flickered across his face, but before he could response, the words left your mouth first.
"Show me that life is worth holding onto."
The sentence surprised even you. Your brows drew slightly together, as though you hadn't meant to say it out loud, yet once the silence setlled between you, you found yourself unable to take it back.
"Show me why tomorrow matters. Show me something that makes me want to wake up excited instead of simply because my schedule says I have to."
Your eyes drifted towards the bouquets and gifts lining the vanity. So many congratulations. So many smiling messages..
"Maybe one day, I'll be terrified of losing all of it too." you mumbled, your eyes shifting back to him.
Lohen stared, considering your proposal and soon enough, the excitement spread across his face, his eyes brightening with fascination, as though you offered him something far more valuable than anything he has ever owned.
A quick death would answer nothing.
Watching someone slowly rediscover the joy of livingâonly to witness the exact moment that joy transformed into desperation...
Now that was worth waiting for.
A low laugh escaped him as he shook his head once, almost in disbelief, his eyes never leaving yours.
I accepted a contract to kill an idol," he murmured, sounding more as though he were speaking to himself to you. "Somehow.." his grin widened. "I've ended up with the most entertaining game I've ever been given."
He straighted his clothes with meticulous care before turning towards the door. His polished shoes clicked softly against the floor as he crossed the room, each step unhurried, as though he had already decided there was no need to rush.
"The day you finally look at me and beg for your life.." He rested one hand on the doorknob without opening it, quiet excitement threading through every word. "I wonder whether you'll still wear that smile of yours."
STAGE 2. BORROWED FREEDOM
The next time you met Lohen, it was inside your dorm.
You had just returned from a filming schedule, exhaustion still clinging to your shoulders as you stepped inside and let the door shut behind you.
The silence of the room should have been familiar, a brief moment of privacy between obligations, but the moment of peace was broken almost immediately when you noticed who was there.
Lohen stood there with his shoulder resting lightly against the frame, as though he had been waiting there for some time without any urgency or concern about being discoveredâif anything, he looked almost bored.
In his hand, a small dagger turned lazily between his fingers, catching faint reflections as it spun with practiced ease.
Then his gaze lifted and settled on your properly, and something in his expression eased, as if your arrival had simply completed a thought he had been holding onto.
"Oh." he said, pushing himself off the window frame as he straightened, slipping the dagger away with a smooth motion. "You really do come back at this time."
Your grip tightened slightly on the strap of your bag as you took a cautious step further inside, your eyes flicking once more toward the window before returning to him.
"How are you in my room?"
He glanced over at the window too for a brief second, then back at you, as though the answer was too obvious to elaborate on.
"It wasn't difficult," he said simply, with a small shrug that offered no real explanation at all.
Then, as if the conversation had already moved past that point in his mind, he tilted his head slightly and spoke again, his tone shifting.
"Say, have you ever been to a festival?"
You blinked once, caught off guard by the change in subject.
"A festival?" you repeated.
He didn't clarify immediately, only watching you as if your reaction mattered more than your answer. The silence stretched long enough that you began searching your own memory properly instead of giving him the easiest response.
"I guess I have," you said eventually, though even as the words came out, they felt incomplete. "For filming..variety shows, promotional events...things like that."
His expression didn't change much, but something in his gaze sharpened slightly, like your answer confirmed something he had already suspected.
"That's not what I meant," he said, "Have you ever gone for yourself? You know..enjoy the food, the atmosphere blah blah.."
You frowned faintly, the distinction he was drawing wasn't something you had really considered before. Festivals had always been work environments to you, even when they were dressed up to look like enjoyment. There were cues, timings, expectations, cameras always somewhere nearby, even if they weren't obvious.
"I don't know," you admitted more quietly, your voice losing some of iter certainty. "I've been there, but it's always been..part of something else. I don't think I've ever gone for myself."
"Huh." Lohen moved, pulling the chair out more to reveal a duffle bag sitting on it.
"Get ready then," he smirked, confidence high. "I'll show you exactly what you're missing out on."
Thawckâ!
The sound of the target being hit entered your ears as you stood beside Lohen, cleverly disguised with his help.
He had changed out of his outfit from earlier too, the sharp edges of his usual presence softened by something almost casualâan open collar white button up instead of his usual dark clothing, sleeves rolled slightly at the forearms as if he belonged here among ordinary crowds rather than something else.
"Here." He held out the ball towards you, nudging his chin toward the remaining setup on the stall, "Try it."
You hesitated only briefly before taking it, your fingers closing around the small weight as you stepped closer to the counter. The stall felt closer than it should have, the expectation of attention from nearby strangers sitting somehwre at the edge of your awareness, even if no one was actually looking at you for once.
You drew your arm back and threwâ
Just for the ball to miss completely.
"PFtâHahaha!" Lohen laughed, shaking his head, "yout technique was wrong from the start," he grinned, tossing the worker a few more coins for another try.
"You did the same mistake you did the last time you tried games like this."
"Whâ?"
"The trick!" he interrupted, picking up one of the balls from the new mini basket now placed in front of the two of you, placing it in your hand as he adjusted your stance. "Is to aim it higher than where the target is.."
Satisfied with his adjustments, Lohen took a small step back.
"Try again.
You let out a sigh, before drawing your arm back again.
The throw followed a clean motion this time, at least in theory, but the results didn't change. The ball veered off just enough to miss the can entirely, bouncing harmlessly away while the last can remained stubbornly upright.
You paused, then turned back toward him with a sheepish look. "Whoops..?"
"Hm." Lohen tilted his head, his grin never fading.
âOr maybe youâre just bad at this.â he said simply, shrugging as he picked up another ball and threw it from where he stood. The ball struck the center of the last can cleanly, sending it flying off the stand it was on.
The stall owner rang the bell to signal a win, the sound sharp and final against the festival noise. A few seconds later, they returned with a slightly oversized blue bunny plush, its floppy ears uneven in a way that made it look more endearing than intended.
Without ceremony, it was placed into Lohen's hands.
He barely looked at it before turning toward you, extending it forward.
"Here," he said. "I have no need for these."
You accepted it carefully, your fingers sinking slightly into the soft fabric as a small smile formed without effort.
âOh,â you murmured, glancing down at it for a moment before looking back up at him. âItâs adorable⊠thank you.â
The sincerity in your voice seemed to linger for a fraction longer than expected. You adjusted your grip on the plush absentmindedly, still caught in the quiet satisfaction of the small victory, when something he had said earlier began to settle properly in your thoughts.
Your expression shifted slightly.
You looked up again, brows drawing together just faintly.
âWait,â you said slowly. âEarlierâyou said last time?â
There was a brief pause in which the surrounding festival noise felt suddenly more noticeable. Lohen didnât immediately respond, which only made the question hang heavier between you.
Then, as if it were nothing worth hiding, he let out a soft sound of acknowledgment.
âAh,â he said, almost lightly. âYou think I wouldnât do my research?â
He turned his attention away from you then, gaze drifting over the crowd as though the answer didnât require further explanation. But the faint curve of his mouth didnât disappear, and something in the ease of his posture suggested he was enjoying your reaction more than the conversation itself.
âI spent a long time watching every video of you that exists on the internet,â he added, tone almost conversational.
You stared at him.
Not startled enough to react loudly, but visibly trying to process where exactly this line of logic had come from.
Before you could find a response, he lifted both hands slightly in mock surrender, as though pre-emptively dismissing whatever protest he expected from you.
âHey now,â he said. âI need a way to understand you better, right?â
Then, without giving you space to recover from that, he shifted his stance and lightly guided you forward by the direction of his movement rather than touch, steering you away from the stall and toward the row of food vendors nearby.
âAnd which is why,â he continued, voice lighter again, âI also learntâŠâ
You were already being led before the sentence even finished forming.
He stopped in front of the food street, where steam, heat, and scent collided in a messy, overwhelming waveâgrilled skewers, fried batter, sugar, spice, and something sweet burning at the edges of metal pans.
âYou always seem to watch what you eat,â he said, as if stating another conclusion he had already verified.
âIââ you started, immediately caught.
âAh ah ah,â he interrupted smoothly, not even looking at you now as he scanned the stalls. âNo disagreeing. I know Iâm right.â
And with that, he simply started walking again, weaving into the flow of people as though the decision had already been made for you both. There was no room left to argueânot because he forced it, but because he moved with the kind of certainty that made hesitation feel unnecessary.
After a second, you followed.
The first stall he stopped at was crepes.
Warm light spilled over a glass display filled with neatly folded sheets of batter, each one layered with whipped cream and fresh fruit. The smell reached you immediatelyâsweet, buttery, almost comforting in a way that felt strangely unfamiliar after years of carefully measured meals and backstage catering.Â
You could feel the saliva, and you swallowed once.
Lohen noticed.
He always did.
He glanced at you briefly, just once, before turning back to the stall as if he already knew what he was going to do.
âWhat do you want?â he asked.
The question was simple.
But your response didnât come immediately.
Your eyes moved over the options automatically, already sorting through invisible rules you hadnât consciously thought about in a long time. Calories. Image. Schedule. What was acceptable in front of people. What could be explained away later. What would be forgiven if posted, what wouldnât.
It wasnât hunger you were considering.
It was the consequences.
âI donât thinkââ you started, then stopped, because even saying it out loud felt wrong in a space like this.
Lohenâs gaze shifted to your faceâwaiting patiently.
You cleared your throat slightly.
âIâm not that hungry,â you said, defaulting to something easier.
His expression didn't change.Â
After another second, he simply turned back toward the vendor.
"One strawberry crepe, please."
The order was placed with such casual certainty that it almost felt as though your refusal had never happened.
A few moments later, he accepted the warm paper-wrapped crepe with a quiet nod before turning back toward you. Holding it out at chest height, he regarded you with the same matter-of-fact expression he'd worn since arriving.
"You don't have to worry so much," he said, his attention drifting briefly toward the stream of people passing through the market. "Besides..." A small grin tugged at the corner of his mouth. "If you think about it, strawberries are healthy!"
You stared at him instead of the crepe.
Then at the crepe.
Then back at him.
The warmth rising from it brushed against your fingers as he nudged it a little closer, never forcefully, but in a way that left very little room to keep refusing without making it obvious you were refusing.
When you still hesitated, Lohen simply reached out and lightly wrapped his fingers around your wrist. The touch was gentle, almost absentminded, as he guided your hand beneath the crepe and settled it securely into your grasp. At the same time, he lifted the bunny plush from your other arm with effortless efficiency, tucking it beneath his own as though he were merely redistributing the weight between you.
"There."
He stepped back, dusting his hands together once with quiet satisfaction, as if the problem had been solved.
You blinked down at the crepe before looking up again, but he was already walking away, weaving through the crowd without bothering to check whether you'd followed.
"Just one bite," he called over his shoulder, lifting a hand in an absent wave. "That's all I'm asking."
The next stalls blurred together after that.Â
At each one, Lohen never asked you to make a decision quickly or explain yourself. If you hesitated, he simply waited. If you started to refuse, he ignored it with quiet confidence, buying something anyway before placing it into your hands as though it had always belonged there.Â
Soon, he left fewer and fewer places for your hesitation to settle.
Somewhere along the way, you stopped calculating every choice before making it.
You couldn't say exactly when it happened. The constant stream of thoughtsâcalories, schedules, appearances, expectationsâdidn't disappear all at once. They simply grew quieter beneath the chatter of the crowd, the sizzling food, and the warmth of paper bags gradually filling your hands.Â
By the time the two of you settled onto a wooden bench near the quieter end of the food street, your arms were full of things you never would have allowed yourself to buy on your own. The warmth seeped through the paper wrapping into your fingers, while the mingled scents of butter, grilled food, sugar, and spices drifted lazily through the cool evening air.Â
It was almost overwhelming.Â
Butâ
Not in an unpleasant way.Â
For a while, neither of you spoke, both staring ahead.
Families wandered past carrying trays piled high with food. A little boy laughed as he chased his older sister between the lanterns overhead before their mother caught up, pretending to scold them while struggling not to laugh herself. Somewhere nearby, a vendor called out another order, followed by the sharp hiss of something hitting a hot grill.
You watched it all in silence.
"...I don't really know how to do this."
The words slipped out so quietly that you almost hadn't realized you'd spoken.
Not the food.
Not the festival.
Something much harder to name.
Your fingers tightened slightly around the warm paper bag resting in your lap.
"I don't really know how to..." You searched for the right words before giving up with a small, embarrassed laugh. "...just be."
The admission hung quietly between you, stripped of the careful polish you usually wrapped around every sentence.
Lohen didn't answer immediately.
Instead, he turned toward you properly.
The person sitting beside him with tired shoulders, food balanced awkwardly across your lap, and no audience left to perform for.
His expression softened slightly.
"You're doing it right now."
You looked at him.
He held your gaze for another moment before the faintest smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
"Just..." he said quietly. "Don't overthink it, [Name]."
His eyes drifted toward the crowd again.
"You don't have to earn every moment you enjoy."
Three months passed since you first met Lohen.
Three months since the two of you had agreed upon this strange little dealâor game, as he like to call it.
Somewhere within those weeks, the routine had quietly formed itself. On days your schedule allowed it, he'd appear without warning and drag you out into the city, wandering from cafés to parks, quiet bookstores to crowded festivals, never really explaining where he intended to take you next.
Little by little, without either of you acknowledging it outright, he chipped away at the polished shell you'd spent years building around yourself.
Even so, one thing never truly changed.
You believed your life would end at Lohen's hands.
That certainty lingered beneath everything the two of you did together, impossible to ignore for too long.
No matter how many ordinary days he showed you, some part of you remained convinced you were living on borrowed timeâtime that existed only because he had chosen not to pull the trigger yet.
Perhaps that was why fully embracing happiness still felt strangely out of reach.
How could you let yourself become attached to tomorrow when you'd already accepted there might not be one?
And what if he simply grew bored?
The game had only begun because you interested him. If one day you stopped being interestingâif he decided you'd never become the terrified person he wanted you to beâthen there would be nothing left to wait for.
He would kill you.
Quickly.
Quietly.
Then move on to someone else who could give him the reaction he had been searching for all along.
The thought never truly left you.
It lingered in the back of your mind during every outing, every conversation, every quiet walk home together.
And yet...
Not everything about those three months had felt temporary.
You found yourself appreciating the little thingsâthe smell of coffee drifting from a corner cafe, the warmth of fresh bread from a bakery you'd passed dozens of times without ever stepping inside, the way the city slowly changed color as evening settled over it.
Sometimes, walking beside Lohen beneath an ordinary sky, you caught yourself forgetting everything else and simply living in the moment, unburdened by the image you had spent years building.
Every moment you allowed yourself to enjoy became another reason to want tomorrow.
...And wasn't that exactly what he wanted?
Perhaps this 'game' was coming to an end soon either ways.
The rain began without warning.
At first, it was nothing more than a light drizzle, speckling the pavement and drawing the scent of wet concrete into the air. Then, almost as quickly as it had begun, it grew heavier. The steady patter became a downpour, blurring the streets beyond the station entrance as pedestrians hurried beneath their umbrellas.
"Huh..the rain's getting heavy."
Lohen tilted his head back for a moment, watching droplets splash against the edge of the station roof before grinning as though the weather had merely presented another opportunity.
"Guess we'll have to take the train to my next plan."
Before you could ask what that plan even was, he'd already stepped up to the ticket machine. A few quick taps, two tickets in hand, and he was gently tugging you after him toward the platform.
Unfortunately...
It seemed everyone else had reached the same conclusion.
By the time the train pulled in, the platform had become a sea of umbrellas, damp coats, and impatient commuters. The doors slid open to reveal an already crowded carriage, every available space occupied as people pressed shoulder to shoulder.
The moment you stepped inside, your chest tightened.Â
It was as though everything you'd managed to quiet over the past three months came rushing back at once.Â
âThey'll see me.â
âThey'll see me with Lohen.â
âWhat if someone recognizes me?â
âWhat if someone takes a picture?â
âWhat if it becomes a scandal?â
Your fingers curled tighter around the fabric of your shirt as your shoulders instinctively drew inward. Every passing glance suddenly felt deliberate. Every nearby conversation sounded as though it might somehow be about you. You found yourself trying to occupy less space, shrinking into yourself despite there being nowhere left to move.
You didn't realize how quickly your thoughts were spiraling until something settled lightly atop your head.
"...?"
You froze.
Lohen's cap.
Its brim dipped low enough to cast a shadow over your eyes.
When you looked up, he was already watching the crowd instead of you, a faint smile resting on his faceânot playful this time, but reassuring in its own quiet way.
"Crowded, isn't it?" he murmured, his voice barely carrying above the rattle of the train. "I think it's better if we get off at the next stop."
You couldn't find the words to answer.
Only then did you notice something else.
It wasn't simply that he was standing beside you anymore.
His body had shifted, angled just enough to intercept the constant jostling of the crowd without drawing attention to himself. One arm rested casually against the overhead handrail, while his shoulder blocked the nearest passengers from pressing any closer. To everyone else, it looked like nothing more than a man finding his balance on a crowded train.
To you, it felt like breathing room.
Outside the station, the two of you paused beneath the shelter, watching rain pour from the gray sky in shimmering curtains. It struck the pavement in an endless rhythm, splashing against the empty streets beyond.
There was rarely anyone around this part of the city.
Lohen stood beside you in silence, though his attention had long since drifted away from the rain.
It had settled on you instead.
Maybe it always had.
After a moment, you reached up and slipped his cap from your head. Your hair, damp and slightly flattened from both the rain and the hat, fell messily around your face as you turned toward him.
"Thanks..." you said softly, holding it out.
The smile you wore was small and unguarded.
Not the effortless smile perfected beneath stage lights.
Just yours.
"Not going to keep it?" Lohen teased, taking the cap back before settling it onto his own head with an exaggerated sigh. "That's a shame."
He glanced toward the rain-soaked street ahead.
"The place I wanted to show you is only a little farther."
Before you could ask whether he intended to walk through that weather, his fingers wrapped gently around your wrist.
"Huhâ?"
"Run!"
The word had barely left his mouth before he was already pulling you forward.
A startled laugh escaped you as you stumbled after him, the two of you darting into the rain together. Water splashed beneath your shoes as you weaved between puddles and hurried pedestrians, your laughter growing louder each time one of you nearly slipped.
Within seconds your clothes were soaked through.
Your mask clung uselessly to your face.
Lohen's hair, usually neat beneath his cap, had begun sticking stubbornly to his forehead.
By the time you finally ducked beneath the overhang of a closed storefront, both of you were breathless.
Rainwater dripped steadily from your sleeves and hair, forming little puddles around your feet. Lohen pushed damp strands away from his eyes with the back of one hand before glancing over at you.
Your eyes metâ
And you both burst into quiet laughter at the sight of each other.
"I never been caught in a rain as heavy as this before." you sigh, wiping the hair out of your face.
Lohen stared.
"You've never been caught in rain?"
"Not like this."
You wandered toward the edge of the shelter, stretching one hand beyond its cover so droplets splashed harmlessly across your fingertips.
"If it rains during filming, everything stops. If it rains during a concert, the managers start panicking. If it rains when I'm outside..." A small, almost embarrassed smile crossed your face. "...someone always has an umbrella over me before I even realize it's raining."
You watched the water dancing across the pavement.
"So..."
You laughed softly to yourself.
"This is actually my first time."
The words settled somewhere unexpectedly deep inside him.
Rain.
Such an ordinary thing.
Countless people complain about it every year.
Yet here you were, looking at it as though you'd just discovered something wonderful.
It made him wonder how many other ordinary moments had quietly been stolen from you.
A faint melody drifted through the rain then, carried from a nearby restaurant whose doors had been left open despite the storm. It was soft enough to be nearly swallowed by the steady rhythm of falling water.
Lohen glanced over his shoulder toward the dark storefront he had planned to visit.
"...Well."
He rubbed the back of his neck with a sheepish grin.
"It looks like the place I wanted to bring you to is closed."
You turned back toward him.
"But..." His grin slowly returned, carrying the familiar spark of mischief in his eyes. "I just thought of something much more fun."
Before you could ask what he meant, he stepped closer and gently took your hand.
"What are youâ"
With a smooth tug, he drew you toward him before spinning you beneath his arm.
"How about a little performance?"
"What?" You laughed, stumbling into the turn before lightly swatting his chest. "Are you crazy?"
"We're already soaked." His shoulders lifted in an easy shrug. "Besides.." He glanced around the nearly deserted street. "I don't think anyone's going to see us."
You rolled your eyes despite the smile tugging at your lips.
"...You're unbelievable."
"And yet you're still here."
He offered a theatrical bow, extending one hand toward you once again.
"So?"
You let out a sigh, but still place your hand in his regardless.
The two of you drifted back into the rain as the distant music continued to play. At first your movements were clumsy due to the wet pavement, more laughter than dancing, but before long your years of choreography began to show. You guided him through a few simple steps, laughing each time he exaggerated a movement just to make you smile, while he followed with surprising enthusiasm despite getting nearly every turn wrong.
The rain blurred the world around you until it felt as though the city itself had quietly disappeared.
There was no audience.
No cameras.
No stage.
Only the two of you.
Lohen watched you as you laughed, your smile brighter than any he'd seen beneath concert lights.
You look happy.
âAre you... enjoying your life?â
The thought came uninvited.
With it came another.
The game the two of you had made three months ago.
His chest tightened.
Ah.
I might be in trouble.
STAGE 3. THE BIG REVEAL
"You've been stuck on this target for a while, Lohen."
The steady rhythm of steel striking the training dummy came to an abrupt stop. Lohen lowered his knife and glanced over his shoulder as Varka stepped into the training room, the older assassin taking in the sight of the battered dummy with a quiet chuckle.
"That's rare," Varka remarked as he folded his arms across his chest. "Usually you're finished long before anyone even notices you've been assigned." His gaze drifted from the dummy back to Lohen. "Is something wrong?"
"Yes." Lohen answered without hesitation, driving the knife into the dummy's chest one last time before letting it topple backward with a dull thud. "A hugeee problem." He sighed dramatically as he yanked the blade free, wiping it clean against a cloth before pointing it lazily in Varka's direction.Â
"Actually...maybe you can help me. How about you answer one teeny tiny little question that's been bothering me?"
Varka laughed. "Go ahead."
"You only ever assign me people you believe deserve to die." Lohen tilted his head, his usual playful smile still resting comfortably on his face. "People who've done something unforgivable." The smile faded ever so slightly. "So why..." He studied Varka's expression for a moment before finishing quietly. "...why was [Name] given to me?"
The room fell silent.
For the first time since entering, Varka's relaxed expression faltered. He rubbed the back of his neck, looking away with a small sigh before finally answering. "...She's a special case."
"I noticed." Lohen's voice remained light, but there was a quiet insistence beneath it now. "I asked why."
Varka didn't answer immediately. Instead, he walked past the fallen dummy, stopping beside one of the weapon racks as though searching for the right words there instead of in Lohen's eyes.
"When she came to us..." He paused, fingers idly brushing over the handles of several knives before coming to rest. "...she looked exhausted."
Lohen frowned.
"...She?"
"[Name]."
For a second, he simply stared.
Then a quiet laugh escaped him.
It wasn't mocking.
It sounded more like someone convinced he'd misheard.
"You're telling me..." He shook his head, smiling in disbelief. "You're telling me [Name] hired us to kill herself?"
Varka didn't laugh.
He didn't correct him either.
He simply held Lohen's gaze.
The smile slowly disappeared from Lohen's face.
"...You're serious."
"I tried talking her out of it," Varka admitted quietly. "I refused at first. But she kept coming back." He exhaled through his nose, his eyes lowering briefly toward the floor. "She wasn't angry. She wasn't looking for revenge. She just..." His voice trailed off before he finally finished, "...looked tired."
Silence settled over the room once more.
Lohen stood perfectly still, the knife hanging loosely at his side as the words slowly settled into place. The rain. The festival. The dancing. The countless ordinary moments she'd looked at with quiet wonder. Her laughter. Her smile. The way she'd asked him to show her that life was worth holding onto.
None of it had begun because she'd been afraid of dying.
She had already accepted death long before he'd ever met her.
"...I have somewhere to be."
His voice barely rose above a murmur.
Without waiting for Varka to respond, he sheathed his knife and strode past him. The training room door slammed shut a second later, followed almost immediately by the sound of hurried footsteps disappearing down the hallway.
"[Name]âŠmy favourite idol. Wake up."Â
You stirred at the sound, blinking awake to find Lohen standing over your bed, a faint smile resting on his face like this was the most normal hour in the world.Â
âLohen..?â You grumbled, slowly sitting up as you rubbed your eyes, looking over at the clock on the wall.
3.04 A.M
"It's three in the morningâŠ" you sighed, still half-asleep. "What are you doing here?"
"I have somewhere I want to show you," he replied simply, as if that explained everything. "And it has to be now."
Before you could properly process that, he reached for your hand and pulled you up from the bed.
"Nooo I'm tiredâ"
The protest barely formed before the world shifted.
You let out a startled sound as Lohen scooped you into his arms with effortless ease, as though your weight meant nothing at all. He moved without hesitation, carrying you straight toward the window.
"Lohenâwhat are you doing?!" you protested, gripping instinctively at his shoulder.
He didnât answer. Instead, he opened the window like heâd done it beforeâlike it was familiarâand stepped out into the night air.
For a brief, dizzying moment, you thought he might actually drop you.
Then his footing found the branch of the tree outside, and he descended with practiced ease, one arm securing you against him while the other guided his balance as if gravity was merely a suggestion.
The night wind brushed past you.
Below, the world was silent and still.
Only then did he glance down at you, a smile softening just slightly at the edges.
"Then Iâll walk for us," he said lightly, as if carrying you out of your house at 3 A.M. was nothing more than a change of plans.
And just like that, he kept going.
He set you gently back onto your feet when the two of you reached the beach.
The cool sand shifted beneath your bare feet as you looked out across the endless sea. Moonlight spilled over the water, turning each wave into silver before it disappeared against the shore with a quiet rush. The air smelled of salt, clean and cold, carrying away the last traces of the city.
"...This is beautiful," you murmured.
"I know." Lohen smiled, slipping his hands into his pockets as he stood beside you. "Did you know? The night we first met... the moon looked just like this."
"Yeah,"Â A faint smile tugged at your lips as your gaze drifted toward the horizon. "I remember thinking... if I died that night, I would have died on a rather beautiful one..."
The words escaped before you had the chance to stop them.
Silence settled between you. You were about to find an excuse to what you meant when Lohen shook his head, his smile fading.
â[Name], I know.â Lohen said quietly. âI know you were the one who sent in the request.â
âOh.â you let out. âI guessâŠthere isnât any use in pretending anymore, huh?â
For a moment, you simply stared at the waves rolling onto the shore. They came and went in an endless rhythm, filling the silence neither of you seemed eager to break. When you finally spoke again, the words came more easily than you expected, as though they had been waiting for an opportunity to escape.Â
âI was tired.â You shook your head almost immediately. âNo... tired isn't even the right word. I was exhausted.â
Your fingers curled together unconsciously.
âEvery morning I'd wake up already wishing the day was over because I knew exactly what was waiting for me. Smile. Practice. Film. Perform. Smile again. And if I wasn't smiling enough...â A quiet, bitter laugh slipped from your lips. âPeople would ask if something was wrong. So I smiled harder.âÂ
Your gaze fell to your hands.Â
âIt got to a point where I couldn't tell where the smile ended and I began. I couldn't be angry because idols aren't supposed to be angry. I couldn't be selfish because idols are supposed to love everyone. I couldn't date. Couldn't make mistakes. Couldn't have bad days. And whenever I felt exhausted, there'd always be someone telling me how lucky I was.â
The wind swept past, carrying your words toward the sea.
âPeople always say idols are living the dream.â Your smile returned briefly, but it didn't reach your eyes. âThey see the concerts, the fans, the awards. They see the edited clips, the interviews, the moments we're supposed to look happy. But they don't see everything behind it. They don't see how every mistake becomes entertainment for thousands of strangers. They don't see people picking apart the way you look, the way you speak, the way you breathe.â
Your voice grew quieter.
âAnd eventually... you start doing it to yourself.â
Slowly, you crouched down and reached toward the sand. Your fingers dug into it absentmindedly, letting the grains slip through the gaps between them as you watched them disappear.
âI loved singing. I really did.â The confession came with surprising certainty. âI loved dancing until my legs gave out. I loved hearing everyone sing along with us. I loved seeing people smile because of something I'd done.â
For a moment, your expression softened with the memory.
âBut somewhere along the way, I stopped being the person who loved those things.â
Your eyes lowered again.
âI became someone who was simply good at pretending she still did.â
The words hung heavily between you.
âI don't even remember when it happened. It wasn't sudden. There wasn't some dramatic moment where everything fell apart.â A shaky laugh escaped you. âOne day I just looked in the mirror and realised I couldn't recognise the person staring back at me anymore.â
Lohen remained silent.
Not because he didn't have anything to say.
Because he knew this wasn't the moment for words.
You drew in a slow breath, turning your head up toward him fully for the first time since the conversation began.
âI just wanted everything to stop.â
There was no bitterness left in your voice now.
âI thought if someone else ended it, then maybe I wouldn't have to disappoint everyone by doing it myself. It felt easier that way. Less selfish.â
Your gaze drifted back toward the ocean.
âTo tell you the truth... I already knew exactly who you were up there. My fan was just a last minute thought of excuseâa lie.â
"But then you ruined everything..you didnât kill me that night. Or even do any of the things you said you usually do to a target." A small laugh escaped you despite yourself. "We had this..game. You kept showing me all these tiny, ordinary moments I'd forgotten people could have..and somewhere along the way, I started looking forward to tomorrow.."
"I..." You smiled at him, and for the first time there was no trace of the idol who had spent years performing for everyone else. "I suppose I'm grateful I didn't die that night. Because I wouldn't have met you...and I never would've remembered how beautiful living could be."
Your voice softened into little more than a whisper.
"So...thank you."
Silence settled once more as the waves rolled endlessly onto the shore.
After a long while, you drew in one slow breath and met his eyes again, your smile calm.
"I think..." You paused only briefly.
"...you can kill me now."
Lohen didn't answer.
For the first time since you'd met him, he found himself with nothing to say to you.
His eyes remained on you, searching your face almost desperately for the slightest crack in your expression. Some hint that you'd said it to test him. That you were joking. That you were lying.
But no.
You were sincere.
Lohen dragged a hand through his hair, letting out a breath that sounded almost like a laugh, though it carried none of his usual ease.
âYou said I ruined your plans,â he murmured, gaze still fixed somewhere between you and the horizon, âbut you ruined mine too.â
The words lingered in the space between you as he slowly lowered himself down onto the sand beside you. He didnât rush the movement. If anything, it felt careful, as though he was trying to match the stillness you had fallen into, afraid that any sudden motion might break something neither of you knew how to fix.
For a while, he simply looked at you.
Not like a target nor like an idol.
JustâŠyou.
His hand lifted slowly, hesitating midway as it neared your face. It stopped there for a moment, suspended awkwardly in the air, as though his body had forgotten how to do something so simple. Violence had always been instinctive to him, clean and certain, but thisâthis uncertainty, this gentlenessâseemed foreign in a way that unsettled him more than any weapon ever had.
When his fingers finally made contact with your cheek, it was almost tentative, like he was afraid you might disappear if he pressed too firmly. His thumb brushed lightly against your skin, wiping away the tear that still clung there without him even seeming to notice at first.
âI couldnât bear the thought of no longer having you,â he admitted quietly, the words rough at the edges, like they had been forced out before he could stop them.
That was when he noticed it.
His own hand.
It was trembling.
Subtle at first, then undeniable, like his body had finally betrayed something he had spent his entire life keeping under control.
Lohen stared at it for a moment, almost as if he didnât recognize it, before letting out a faint, disbelieving laugh that died quickly in his throat.
ââŠLook at that.â
The sound that followed wasnât quite humorous. It was something closer to disbelief at his own body.
âIâve held a rifle without my hands shaking,â he said slowly, âIâve stood in front of people pointing guns at me and never onceânever onceâfelt this.â
His voice faltered slightly, and for the first time there was something unsteady beneath it that had nothing to do with confidence or control.
âIâve never trembled before.â
As if the admission itself made the moment too real, he exhaled and slowly pulled his hand away from your face, as though he needed distance from the vulnerability he had just exposed.
His other hand moved into the inside pocket of his coat.
When he pulled it out, it was with something folded carefully between his fingers. The assignment, the contract signed that was suppose to guranteed your death.
The one that had defined everything between you.
He looked at it for a long moment, unmoving, the paper catching faint traces of moonlight as the wind shifted around the two of you.
ââŠHow troublesome,â he muttered under his breath.
Then, without ceremony or hesitation, he tore it.
Once.
Twice.
Again and again until it was nothing but fragments.
The pieces scattered into the wind almost immediately, lifted away by the breeze rolling in from the ocean, disappearing into the pale light of the moon before either of you could track where they landed.
Lohen watched them go in silence.
âIâve never failed a mission before,â he said finally, voice quieter now, almost distant. Then he turned slightly toward you, expression softening in a way that felt almost painful. âBut I donât think I mind if it keeps you alive.â
His gaze lingered on you for a moment longer than necessary, as though he was trying to memorize something he was afraid he might lose.
Because when he spoke again, there was no hesitation left in him at all.
âSomewhere along the wayâŠâ he exhaled softly, a small, helpless smile forming as if it had no choice but to exist, ââŠI fell in love with you.â
"So please don't leave this world yet."

âheâs back again!â ventiâs voice sang through the back, giggling slightly through the words. âand asking for you like always.âÂ
âtell him iâm busy.âÂ
âalready did! and then he threatened to jump the counter,â venti replied less enthusiastically, now sticking his head around the back and giving you that puppy-dog lookâthe one he knew didnât actually work but annoyed you enough to make you let out a loud sigh and throw the piping bag to the table, following after venti with an annoyed grumble as albedo carefully picked up your abandoned piping bag and neatly put it back in place.Â
just as you rounded the corner into the bakery, your eyes immediately locked onto a pair of crimson eyes already staring at you with that same slightly concerning glint swimming around them. lohen. your most bothersome and infuriating customer who always insisted on talking with you and nobody but you, glaring daggers into all of your staff members to such a degree that they all feared him immensely. your part-time employee bennett had once spoken to lohen and been left an absolute mess, hiding in the back with tears streaming down his face and his body shaking. he was already taking a sip from his usual order of black coffee with your handmade blueberry syrup, smacking his lips together impatiently.Â
that was until his eyes flickered over and finally landed on you, shamelessly letting them run down your body and back to your face, a grin resembling a predator with prey in sight. âwell, hey there, little bunny. donât you look absolutely scrumptious today.â he licked over his teeth obnoxiously.Â
âone day iâm gonna make sure your coffee is poisoned,â you stated with an exasperated tone, ignoring the way he almost seemed excited at your proposal. âwhat do you want? i have stuff to do.âÂ
âjust wanted to see your pretty face; figured itâd bless the rest of my day.âÂ
lohen wasâŠan interesting customer.Â
not long after youâd initially relaunched the bakery in mondstadt city and hired some of your closest friends, you experienced an odd morning where both of your baristas were delayed and bennett was sick, leaving you to man the counter momentarily whilst waiting for your usual employees; something you never usually did as you preferred to stay in the back and bake, especially during the morning rush. you had good customer service skills, having worked in a store before, but venti and dahlia were just on a completely different level, thriving off interactions with customers. the bakery was mostly silent, with a few customers scattered around with their laptops, clearly working on something with their beverages and their chosen selection from your rather creative menu of sweet treats, baked goods, and sandwiches.Â
lohen came in, eyes already snapping over to examine everyone and everything before they suddenly snapped to you, causing you to quirk an eyebrow in confusion at his odd behavior. what was even weirder was the way his uniquely crimson eyes widened the second they landed on you, his lips pulling into what looked like a crazed smile, making you recoil ever so slightly at just how downright insane he suddenly seemed. youâd never seen him before, but after that day⊠you werenât sure you ever wanted to. he was perfectly polite, sans the rather weird flirting he tried to initiate and the way heâd just never let his eyes move from you for more than a second. even when youâd made his coffee and given it to him, his tongue ran over his teeth, spreading into a predatory smile as he thanked you for the coffee, backing out of the store as if he never wanted to take his eyes off you.Â
since that day, he would routinely come in and ask for you specifically, unwilling to let anyone else take his order or make his coffee. the one time you werenât around and they had bennett on trial for making coffee during stressful situations, lohen had lost his absolute mind and yelled at the poor boy. when you did finally show up for work, having decided to shift your hours, youâd find a crying bennett in the back and venti already throwing words at you.Â
needless to say, the very next morning upon lohenâs arrival, he was surprised to see your usual neutral face scrunched in anger and your flat tone raised in a genuine flare of anger, scolding him viciously for what he did to bennett. despite him apologizing to your staff member, something about the way he began staring at you dazedly after that sometimes made you wonder whether his little fascination with you had truly bloomed after that day; whether seeing you show more emotion than your flat delivery and expressionless face had really gotten him going.Â
âitâs seven am.â your hands slammed down onto the counter, eyes squinting in lohenâs direction as he casually sipped on his coffee, clearly amused. âiâm not in the mood for your shit, lohen.âÂ
âwell, well, well, thatâs no way to talk to a customer, now is it, bunny?â lohen teased, and within seconds had learned in, nose to nose with you as his intense eyes bore into yours, leaving you slightly stunned at how quickly he had moved. âbut you seem⊠genuine, so i hope you have a great day. just remember, any rude customers and iâll happily deal with them for you!â
he was dressed in his usual slacks and loose white shirt, hair messy but styled, and of course, his two daggers sitting snugly in his belt just waiting for usage. you knew he had a pistol tucked into the back of his slacks and most likely one tucked away somewhere else, and that was not because youâd noticed randomly, but rather because heâd eagerly shown you all of his weapons one random morning when youâd inquired about the red stains on his slacks. that is to say that youâd learnt quite a lot about his work that day, especially how he apparently worked for some special task forceâsomething you wouldâve questioned if not for the one time he came in with his supervisor, a man much taller, bigger, and energetic.Â
the thing was, his supervisor, varka had been very nice. he conversed loudly with some of your staff members and friends, specifically venti, and that was how youâd learn more about their special task force and maybe catch a peek into lohenâs role there and why he felt the need to carry multiple weapons on him. where lohen was calculating, observing, and had a tendency to follow his own whims rather than actually listen to what he was told, varka came across as someone who commanded all attention in a room but was simultaneously very emotionally intelligent, something you realized when you noticed how his thoughtful eyes observed lohen, as if he had noticed something never seen before.
everyone else went back to serving customers normally, bennett pretending to not see lohen as he cleared off various tables whilst dahlia prepared coffee orders and venti happily took more from the surge of people whoâd entered your bakery. but now standing off to the side, you could feel lohenâs eyes watching your every move, burning into your head as you returned to the back and even if he didnât say anymore, you still briefly turned around to see that same crazed smile painted across his lips, winking at you. with a groan and a muttered swear word, youâd rushed into the back and ignored albedoâs confusion over the redness in your cheeks, washing your hands rather aggressively.Â
âis that your boyfriend?âÂ
the bar of soap in your hand dropped to the sink, clattering loudly as your head snapped over to gape at durin, your newest employee and an apprentice under albedo, whose eyes had widened from your surprise. shaking your head furiously with a scoff, you quickly finished washing your hands and pressed the wet hands to your cheeks, hoping to calm the burning in them down significantly. you pretended not to see the way albedo nudged durin slightly, shaking his head and leaving the young one even more perplexed as he continued working on the tempered chocolate.Â
they all loved to tease you and make small innuendos about you and lohen, noticing how you clearly relished in the odd attention the man showed you. unlike others, who spoke to impress or to brag, something about his odd nature of speech was comforting to you, even if it was him often threatening to harm any customer whoâd been rude to you or him graphically telling you about his latest encounterâhe was an odd person, but you quite enjoyed his weirdness even if it did seem borderline unstable at times. after all, who were you to judge? he was always perfectly normal to everyone, threatening violence, but you knew that was part of his job, and made sure to never cross any lines. even his nickname for you was one heâd begun calling you out of nowhere, and even if you did scold him about it multiple times, he never really used it in an obnoxious manner; heâd clearly taken an interest in you and you had to admit that you enjoyed it. you enjoyed the verbal banter, being able to speak freely without having him give you the usual âwomen shouldnât speak so crasslyâ bullshit like other men often did and the way his eyes shone brightly whenever you didnât immediately shut him down.Â
âbunny!â lohenâs voice reached you throughout the back, your head snapping up in confusion as to why exactly you were able to hear him so clearly. âleaving now, donât miss me too much,â he sang cheerily as he leaned over your counter, head poking out to stare right at you with that same cocky smirk playing on his lips. rolling your eyes, you raised your hand to flip him off and turned back around, ignoring the loud chuckle he let out followed by a whistle.Â
you let out a sigh, silently thanking the archons above that albedo and durin did not care for this, both quietly working in the corner of the large kitchen in the back. unfortunately, the idiot duo, as you lovingly called them, were less socially aware, and both skipped to the back to tease you, leaving bennett to handle the front. their mouths would not stop talking about lohen, ventiâs insistence that lohen absolutely had a thing for you, with dahlia agreeing but also making it clear that something about lohen seemed borderline unstable at times. like the time when lohen had damn near broken a cup when a customer decided to yell at you after yelling at bennett and your part-time helpers razor and fischl, inevitably summoning you to the front to deal with him. you had no problem handling the angry customer, keeping your tone steady and calm but with a chilling coldness as you told him to fuck off.Â
to absolutely nobodyâs surprise, the customer never came back, and the sheer fear people felt from seeing your eerie display of calmness in a perilous situation paired with a deathly coldness was enough to never cause trouble. lohen had been sitting in the corner, on the phone, but tuned in the second he heard the commotion, and whilst heâd never say it, you knew he didnât actually care about what was happening. however, you did notice how he suddenly narrowed his eyes in your direction when you came storming from the back, pushing all three employees behind you as you levelled the sour customer with a nasty glare. and of course you noticed the way lohenâs regular, borderline scary grin twisted into a rather crazed one when you kicked the customer out of your store.Â
(and if lohen had apprehended the customer outside in an alley and dealt with him, well that was nobodyâs business but his).Â
âif the two of you donât get your asses back now, iâll revoke your day off.âÂ
âyou canât do that! lyney and lynetteâs magic show is finally coming to mondstadt city, boss,â venti protested with a stomp and a huff, acting like an overgrown child all while dahlia nodded at his side.Â
you cocked an eyebrow in his direction, leaning in close to flick his braid. âwell, get to work then.â
âyouâre so unfair.âÂ
âdahlia, donât piss me off now.âÂ
ââŠâ
needless to say, the two men gave you faux glares as they backed back into the store, grumbling and groaning about their dictator boss. but you knew they were just messing around, and they knew you were as well, never wanting to let down your friends. after all, venti and dahlia had been the very first of your friends to offer their full-time services at your bakery when it was still merely an idea, a dream. youâd worked at this bakery part-time for years when studying but always dreamt of perhaps owning your own place, somewhere that wasnât all international business and marketing but bread and cakes with a comfortable atmosphere. and when your boss eventually told you sheâd be retiring, she gave the entire bakery to you, allowing you to turn your dream into a reality and become the new owner of this bakery, customizing it and becoming rather well-known for your food items.Â
the lunch rush eventually came in, which meant your shift was done, leaving your bakery in the capable hands of your employees as you headed home, exhausted and in desperate need of a nap. unlike the others, you and albedo usually had the earliest shifts, coming in bright and early to spend the whole day baking and preparing, then leaving around noon or early evening with the bakery in the hands of your bright and lively employees. lohen had your schedule down to perfection; even you didnât know how he always knew when youâd be there and what days, but youâd been informed multiple times that he never stepped through those doors if you werenât there. it was as if his sole purpose for coming by and making himself awfully comfortable with that lean posture and wide grin was to see you. Â
a warm shower later, and you plopped down onto your couch with a warm bowl of food in your hands, the television already playing one of your favorite shows as you ate in silence. you loved working with all of your friends, but starting at three am and having to hear ventiâs and dahliaâs bickering from as early as six am could definitely be mind-numbing at times. your phone was charging, your empty bowl was placed on the couch, and you let out a yawn as you got comfortable on your sofa, hoping youâd be able to get through at least an episode. alas, your mind mustâve had other plans, and within just a few minutes, you were fast asleep on the sofa, the sun beaming on you through the tall windows.Â
a loud ringing snapped you out of your sleep, leaving you to rapidly snap up from your sleeping state and sit upright on the sofa, looking around with choppy breaths leaving you. your eyes narrowed in on your light pink phone charging on the table, and with a sigh, you reached out to grab the phone, opening the flip phone to accept the call.Â
âhello?âÂ
âuhm, h-hi boss.â bennettâs nervous voice came through your phone, and you fell back into your couch, glancing out the window to stare at the beautifully painted sky, full of stars, as bennett struggled to verbalize on the other end, and you knew better than to interrupt him, giving him time to get his words strung together. âuhm, so promise you wonât get mad⊠weâre really sorry!âÂ
âbennett, what happened?âÂ
âwell, uhm, you know razor and fischl came over for the evening shift, like planned. and then, uhm, venti and dahlia told us to lock up when we leave, like usual. and then, uhm, i told razor to set the alarm, and we leftââÂ
you could already tell where this was going, but you decided to remain patient, taking a deep breath as your hand began massaging your temple. âbennett, please get to the point.âÂ
ârazor forgot to set the alarm, and we didnât know, but we went back and the alarm wouldnât let us set it at all, saying it needs an administrator password, but, oh my god, fischl, donât say that! but we donât know what to do, and weâre really sorry, and i totally understand if you want to fire us, but it really was a mistake, and razor feels super bad about itââÂ
âhey, hey, hey!â your voice broke through whatever freak-out bennett was experiencing, rendering the other side completely silent as you asked to be set on speaker. âiâm not gonna fire any of you. it was a mistake, it happens. iâll go check up on the bakery and set the alarm.âÂ
a collective sigh of relief came from the other side, but what caught your ear was the slight sniffle and bennettâs small words of comfort to razor and you know he mustâve been feeling terribly about this mishap. after a few more words of comfort and asking all of them to come by the bakery after their classes tomorrow, you threw on a pair of jeans and an oversized knit sweater which hung off your shoulders, tucked into your jeans as you slid on a pair of sneakers, grabbed your purse and rushed out of the door. your bakery was located a good tenâminute walk away, so whilst you werenât necessarily a fan of walking through the city in the middle of the night, you were used to it due to your early shifts.Â
the birds were chirping happily, a few stray dogs were running around, and you shared a smile with some of the people you saw on the way who were frequent patrons of your bakery, wishing you a good night. upon reaching your bakery, you were relieved to see the bakery looking perfectly fine, running around to the back to unlock the door only to find your employee entrance unlocked, setting off several bells in your head.Â
even if razor forgot to set the alarm, they wouldnât have forgotten to lock the door. or so you wouldâve hoped, but theyâd already told you that theyâd gone back, and as you told them that you would be heading back to set the alarm, you figured they may have merely left it open for you to make it easier. shrugging to yourself and pulling open the door, you let it close behind you as you placed your purse on the small table just outside the kitchen, walking through your various shelves to check if everything seemed fine. like every evening, your staff had cleared everything perfectly and left out the utensils youâd need, even putting the speaker to charge alongside the ipad so you could listen to music during your morning baking shifts. the windows were sealed close, the lights were off as expected, and the front of the bakery seemed fine: chairs on top of the tables, curtains drawn, and the floor swept.Â
âhm, should be fine,â you muttered to yourself, deciding to check one last place before you left. but that chance never arose, for just as you were about to turn around, you suddenly felt something cold press against your throat, your breath immediately catching when you felt a hard front press against your back, an unsteady breathing hitting your ear. âw-what the hell?âÂ
that same blade pressed into your throat and a hiss escaped you at the pain of having it dig into your throat, your brain continuously throwing commands at you: run, stay, hide, fight back, stay, donât die. everything felt like it was coming at you at once and even as the body behind you wrapped another arm around your middle, pushing their own legs to push yours forward and leading you behind the counter, you kept your eyes squeezed shut and tried to let your brain take you anywhere but hereâsomewhere that wasnât your safe space becoming your nightmare.Â
âwho are you? what do you want?âÂ
a guff chuckle resonated through your back, your lips curling in disgust as the blade continued to dig into your throat, leaving drops of blood to escape the wound. from the corner of your eye, you could see more people escaping from your storage room, the very last room you were going to check before leaving. the man behind you seemed to hold no interest in anything else but keeping you subdued, giving commands to the other men and instructing them to grab the money from your till, but never once speaking to you. his hand around your middle tightened as you began to struggle in his grasp, gritting your teeth together and attempting to escape.Â
âlady, i struggle you stay still unless you want me to slit your throat and leave you here to die alone.â his gruff voice echoed through the front of your bakery, your body going still when you felt that same blade dig deeper, tears whelming up in your eyes.Â
this was not how you expected your evening to go. yet here you were, held captive in your own establishment with a knife pressed to your throat and watching with your own eyes as they stole your hard-earned money from your register. as they grabbed the expensive kitchen machines and tools, stuffing them into duffle bags and running out of the back entrance. and every word began to feel like it was muffled, as if your body were underwater when the reality dawned on you. because you felt helplessâthere was nothing you could do. unless you wanted to die a miserable death, left to die and most likely having to traumatize your own friends by having them find your dead body, youâd just have to remain helpless and watch as your life was invaded and abused, as your business was ravaged and purloined.Â
âthatâs a good girl.âÂ
your elbow snapped back, ignoring the way the knife dug deeper into your throat before dropping, leaving you to helplessly grab at your throat to stop the blood, thankful that it hadnât gone too deep and would hopefully not kill you, but painfully enough to have shards of agony coursing through your nerves as you stumbled backwards, grabbing onto a table to steady yourself. your breaths were coming out in pocketed gasps, eyes widening when your brain realized that you werenât actually inhaling enough oxygen, subconsciously leading you to panic inwardly about how the hell youâd just done. the man hissed at the contact between your sharp elbow and his ribs, cursing in anger as he picked up the blade again, charging straight at you. stumbling around the table, your feet carried you a mere few feet forward before a hand tangled into your hair, a cry of pain breaking free from your chest when you were thrown to the floor, your hand immediately shooting up to cover your throat.Â
âi told you to stay still.â the man charged at you, landing a kick to your legs, ignoring the scream which escaped your throat, merely landing a few more to your stomach. âi told you to not do anything stupid.âÂ
another kick was incoming; you knew it, and you did your best to shield yourself, ignoring the blood gushing from your throat and escaping out of the corners of your mouth when your arms struggled to wrap around your stomach to brace for another kick and as youâd expected, the heavy boots collided with your middle again, your arms taking most of the damage when you let out another cry, your head painfully colliding with the floor when you blinked up at him, aware of all the blood around you. someone from the back of the store hollered something at the man, perhaps warning him about someone and when he stared down at you again, a snarl on his lips, you could almost see the contemplation in his eyes: should he kill you or not?Â
lucky for you, time was not on your attackerâs side and he leapt past your pathetic form, grabbing another bag from the counter as your eyes tracked him escaping through the back of your store. the phone in the back of your jeans was calling your name, begging you to slide it out and call someone for help, for aid, for anything, yet the heaviness in your arms rendered you helpless on the floor. the blood trickling from your mouth and throat was forming a pool beneath your body, the aching in your body expanding and deepening immensely as your sight went blurry; whether it was from the involuntary tears or the burning from your wounds, you couldnât tell.Â
what you could tell is that you were alone, all alone. in the darkness of your own sanctuary, youâd watched your hard work be stolen within seconds, felt everything youâd ever worked for be taken from you, and left youself in a sorry state. as if your machinery and money werenât enough, the blood swimming around under you was yet another theft committed against you, taking something as simple as your blood and your fight from your damaged and shattered body.Â
that was until you saw something blurry crouching down in front of you, hands steadily reaching out towards you as your mouth began moving on its own, pleading whoever had come back to not kill you, to not hurt you anymore, slurring your words when begging the person to just take whatever they wanted but leave you alone. your eyes couldnât narrow in on whoever was in front of you and even if some part of your brain was trying to register the personâs smaller but lean build, your mouth kept blubbering the same pleas, scared of having your own friends walk in and find you beaten and left to die.Â
âbunny, itâs me, itâs me.â the cold hand washed over your forehead and into your hair, pushing back the unruly strands which were sticking to your bloody face and finally allowing your blinking eyes to narrow in on the stature of lohen crouching in front of you, his usually crazed grin dampened into an angry grimace as those same crimson eyes rapidly scanned over your entire body, scowling. ânobodyâs coming back to hurt you.âÂ
âl-lohen?â your eyebrows tried to come together, a hiccuped gasp tumbling out of your throat as his cold hand pressed against your throat, providing you with some much-needed relief and finally blocking the blood trying to escape your throat. âw-whaâ are you doinâ h-here?âÂ
a reply never came as his hands slid beneath your wounded body, muttering small praises as he gently flipped you onto your back, pulling out his own dagger and harshly cutting into his shirt, firmly wrapping the fabric around your throat to stop the bleeding as his hand then gently pushed up your sweater to see the swelling and bruises forming on your stomach, eyes flickering up to see your hazy eyes focused in on him, never once protesting as he pushed up your sweater even further, pressing his hands against your marred stomach and staring intensely at you as gasps of relief poured out of your blood-stained mouth, your eyes never once breaking contact with his.Â
âi knew something was weird when you came back,â he muttered more so to himself as his hands continuously poked around your torso, hushing you gently every time you let out a gasp of pain or a cry, assuring you that he was merely attempting to locate any more injuries internally. âdidnât understand why youâd return already.âÂ
something about his words should have made bells go off in your head. something about the weirdly cold expression on his face should have been equally disturbing.Â
however, in this very moment of haziness, you thanked the archons above that lohen was here, not giving another thought as to why he knew of your whereabouts and how he got here so fast. in your sorry state of bodily fluids pooling beneath you, the feeling of his cold hands pressing into your torso was all you needed. and even if the rest of the situation were a haze in your mind, only remembering bits and pieces, youâd never forget the brush of his warm lips against your forehead, promising you that you could relax nowâpromising you that nobody would ever lay another hand on you again.Â
perhaps some people would call you an idiot for believing a man you essentially didnât know, someone who merely came into your bakery every day and asked for you for personal and selfish reasons, but something about the fire of fury burning within his eyes felt special to you. it felt like he truly cared about you and was genuinely angered by finding you in such a state. nevertheless, your arm rose from where itâd been limp on the floor, hand finding lohenâs face and wrapping about his cheek as his crimson eyes snapped to yours in confusion. your thumb caressed the soft skin beneath his eyes, a small smile pointed in his direction with a whispered gratitude before the world went dark.Â
and in the very bakery, lohen could feel his heart stir in a way it hadnât in years. his hand would reach down to intertwine your fingers again, lifting them to his mouth and pressing a small kiss to your bloodied fist. but despite the pain youâd faced and feeling an insatiable desire to hunt down and kill whoever did this to you, he also found himself thinking that this might be the most beautiful youâd ever looked if only the blood covering you so messily wasnât your own.Â
â
days would pass before consciousness came to you, leaving you perplexed and stunned when you awoke in your bedroom in your own pajamas, curtains drawn and not a single thing out of order. your groggy mind was trying to convince you that maybe everything you seemingly experienced was a dream, but the aching in your body felt as real as the continuous twinge of pain in your throat whenever you moved too much.
memories from the former events would soon resurface, leading you to bury yourself deep within your own bed, covered entirely by your duvet as those small flashes of fear kept making their appearance. your pillow was stained from the silent tears, and even as you lay curled up in your bed, crying silently, feeling every silent sob send trembles through your body, your hand was pressed firmly against your throat, so as to assure yourself that you were okay. you survived, youâd made it out, and you had begun to recover, but the trauma was lingering. the feeling of the man holding the blade against your throat, the cool steel and its sharp edge puncturing your skin was a feeling you would never forget.Â
suddenly you felt a hand caressing your form over the duvet, a small humming following, and despite the attempts to be comforting, your body froze entirely, a cry stuck in your throat when your mind began to process that you werenât alone⊠again. someone had invaded your bakery and tainted its sanctity, and now they were in your home, probably looking to finish the job. but the feeling of panic never truly settled as a voice spoke into the silent room, melting every inch of tension from your body.Â
âawh, little bunny, itâs just me.â
a pair of fingers hooked around the top of your duvet but never moved, almost as if the person were giving you the option to refuse if you didnât want to show yourself. but even with all these questions swarming your mind and strangling you silently, you yearned to feel less alone, to not feel left to death or recovery on your own. and so you allowed lohen to pull the duvet from your head, knowing you probably looked like a fucking troll with your messy hair and widened watery eyes, staring up at the ceiling as the world slowly came into your view. but instead of taking in the view from your window or glancing around, your eyes instinctively found lohenâs crimson eyes surrounded by a blue tinge, finding a sense of comfort in that small smile lingering on his pink lips as his hand tucked in the duvet by your waist, keeping you nice and warm but exposing your face to him. his hand gently caressed your arm, moving up and wiping one of those tears from your face, staring at your face and specifically at those spilled tears as if they were something precious.Â
and when he lifted his hand, licking your salty tear off his thumb with a euphoric expression passing over his face, eyes momentarily widening in surprise, it didnât scare you, nor did it send a shiver of confusion down your spine as one would expect; instead, a flood of warmth came crashing over you, a flower of comfort blooming in your stomach. something about the glint of obsession in his eyes when he glanced back down at you, gently taking a place by your side and reaching out for your face gave you a comfort you hadnât felt for years, if ever.Â
âc-can you tell me what happened?â your voice was raspy from disuse, triggering a small coughing fit after as lohen gently ran his hand up and down you back with small tuts, truly treating you like a small bunny. âi⊠iâm really confused.âÂ
those crimson eyes skirted back to meet yours, an almost mocking sigh leaving his mouth. âare you sure, bunny? itâs a lot.â something about his tone didnât seem entirely genuine, though, as if he really did want to tell you everything.Â
nevertheless, you pushed yourself upright in your bed and leaned against the headboard, lohen aiding you in moving around as groans and hisses of pain kept escaping you unwillingly, his one hand wrapped around your throat in a way that shouldâve seemed threatening but felt comforting more than anything, especially the coldness of his touch. something about the sun reflecting from behind him, illuminating him from behind yet casting a shadow over his face, made your eyes narrow in confusion.Â
âwait,â you spoke in a whisper, placing a hand over his hand as he softly rubbed the dried tears off your face, halting his actions. âhow did you get here, lohen?âÂ
lohen let out a sigh, not answering you whilst concentrating on wiping your tears with that same soft touch, crimson eyes tracing every inch of your face as you watched him quietly, enthralled by how almost reverent he seemed in his actions, dedicating himself to you. he wasnât in his usual work outfit, instead dressed in what looked like a pair of sweatpants and a well-fitting t-shirt, confirming to you that he really did have a rather lean build underneath his shirt, corded with muscles but not bulkyâbut the most striking part was just how comfortable he seemed in your apartment, present as if this was normal, never once bothering to explain himself before now, moving around like he belonged here.Â
the retelling of what had happened was just as haunting as the small bits in your head told you, and as lohen wrapped up the retelling, your eyes had begun to glaze over, sending you into some odd state of dissociation. not entirely sure what to do but never one to back down from a challenge, lohen let out a coo and repositioned himself, sliding in behind you and sitting against the headboard as he pulled you back, now seated between his legs as your back rested against his firm chest and head landed in the crook of his neck. his cold hands were gently running up and down your arms, grounding you softly but never once pressuring you to return to reality as the memories flooded your mind. not even the small kiss placed on your temple by the man seemed to faze you whatsoever, leaving lohen grinning as your mind seemingly chose to lure you back into sleep, too overwhelmed to process all of this trauma alongside the pain thrumming along in your body.Â
including lohenâs hold on you tightening, relishing in your blind trust in him, peacefully sleeping in his hold, letting him run his hands along your waist and press small kisses into your temple as sleep soon came to him as well, delighted to be tangled up with you. Â
â
the next few days would pass in a blur, lohen never once leaving your side but often going out of the room to take calls. the sudden affection was, however, something that truly caught you off guard. whereas his usual shenanigans in your bakery consisted of flirty comments, oddly protective behaviors, and the occasional attempt to hold your hand or trace his fingers over yours as you handed him coffee, it felt as if that had all culminated into whatever this was. his eyes would always be fixated on you, admiring you at every turn you took, always ready to steady you if the pain became too much, leisurely picking you up and carrying you throughout your own apartment, laughing and enjoying his presence.Â
the days would be spent watching shows together, lohen telling you about his work and the people he worked with, tracking circles on your skin whenever you opened up about your own work situation, telling him about the origins of your bakery. youâd learn about his habits, how he often acted like a clingy cat and refused to break physical contact with you, and youâd find yourself steadily coming to appreciate his company. at your bakery, it wasnât exactly a well-kept secret that you did enjoy lohenâs presence â as venti had pointed out once before â and that you kept playing along because you somewhere deep down loved the attention he showed you. the dedication to come by every day, to never cross any real boundaries but instead relish in your natural reactions and the half-hearted insults youâd throw at him, the way he often observed you with crimson shaped hearts in those eyes, a sly smile always lingering on his face.Â
it felt as if you were finally beginning to actually know lohen as more than that slightly annoying but very handsome customer you dealt with every morning.Â
when you finally built up the mental fortitude to ask what happened after lohen came to your rescue, you were quite surprised at his answer about how and who had taken care of you. with lohen sitting on the far end of your sofa, your head in his lap and healing body strewn across the soft fabric, he revealed the aftermath of the attack to you. how his medic friend had patched you up and made sure that you would suffer from no permanent injuries from this horrific attack, sans a small scar running across your throat from where youâd unfortunately been sliced by the blade. he recounted how he remembered hearing you mention your older sister once, who he had gotten in contact with using his work connections. she was the one who took care of you, changing your clothes whilst you were unconscious and staying around to make sure you recovered well. but her work would not let her take more than a few days off and so she had to return to sumeru, asking lohen to take care of you; when youâd questioned why him, youâd seen a flush creep up on his face, muttering something about how sheâd assumed the two of you were a couple due to the sheer time he spent around you, waiting for your recovery.Â
he assured you that the men whoâd broken into your bakery and caused such harm to you would never be a threat to you again, claiming that his task force had found them shortly after the robbery and arrested them, sending them off to a prison way beyond the borders of mondstadt due to the sheer amount of evidence testifying to their crime. something about the almost murderous glint in his eyes when he relayed this information made you question the validity of this information, but alas, deep down you knew that you didnât actually care what happened to those menâif lohen had perhaps dealt with them in another manner⊠well, that wasnât really your problem.Â
the memory of him finding you, the horror on his face upon seeing your state yet never once panicking, was forever etched into your mind, bringing a smile to your face as you were standing in your bathroom, finally able to move around on your own without the fear of your pain flaring up or a sudden wave of dizziness crashing over you. perhaps it was soon, but you could tell deep within your stomach that whatever was going on between you and lohen was beyond a friendship; maybe it had never been a friendship to begin with. your entire gimmick was the flirting between you every day, something you both fed into no matter how unwilling you made yourself seemâa fact he was well aware of as he continued to come back every day and indulge even if you told him to fuck off. those interactions had merely been the prelude, and the last few days, almost two weeks, had truly created a bond between the two of you that no words could even aim to describe.Â
the others did not know what had happened, according to lohen. in fact, he had told you how his team had not just tracked down the criminals in record time but also put everything back in your bakery and cleaned the mess, including your floors which were drenched in your blood. whilst confused at first as he stood in your kitchen, making you dinner in just a pair of loose slacks and a tight tee, he went on to claim heâd seen how much you cared for your friends and he just felt youâd hate for them to know. instead, heâd relayed to them that you were quite ill at the moment and your sister would be taking care of youâsomething you chose not to question but instead chose to appreciate.Â
it was moments like those which steadily cemented the two of you as staples in each otherâs lives and made you realize that perhaps all your banter with lohen had always been your way of showing interest in him, and now heâd been spending the better part of two weeks staying with you every waking moment, guiding you through the healing and resting process with grace and patience. he spent the first few nights after your initial awakening on the couch, not wanting to cross your boundaries, especially seeing the confusion on your face when youâd awoken and found yourself entangled with lohen. but as days went by and something new bloomed between you two, lohenâs designated sleeping spot became by your side in your bed, always with an arm wrapped around your waist and soft lips pressed against your head. the small suitcase initially placed in your bedroom moved into your bedroom, and slowly, the clothes from within found their way into a designated drawer in your cupboard.Â
just like his clothes, he craved himself a place in your home and in your heart. Â
âboss!â durinâs voice echoed throughout the bakery, causing you to spin around and see all of your employees standing in the front of the bakery, shocked and surprised expressions all around as you waved meekly, already bracing for the million questions. âyouâre back!âÂ
a tearful reunion later, mostly venti trying to strike you with a baguette with tears brimming in his eyes and dahlia blinking his away, you were told that theyâd all been coming in much earlier every morning to bake all the goods for the day; your absence was not just felt in the lacklustre atmosphere but the sheer workload without you felt like too much. venti asked about your health, and it seemed lohen had told them youâd contracted some sort of virus, so after merely assuring them you were fine, all of you got back to work even if you did notice the sweet smiles theyâd all directed your way when they thought you were distracted. Â
observing the way dahlia and venti kept hip-checking each other whilst placing the baked goods in the glass display made a smile subconsciously grow on your face as did the sight of durin finally being able to recreate one of your most memorable pastries all on his ownânot perfect but wonderful nonetheless. the proud smile on his face when albedo patted his head in approval, the noise from the front of the bakery, hearing bennettâs laughter throughout the entire shift from the front of the houseâmoments like these made you so eternally grateful that they didnât know the truth. they didnât know that the floor they were currently dancing across, sliding around with happy laughs and cheerful faces, was the very same floor on which youâd almost held to death, coldness seeping into your bones and your mind slowly slipping.Â
âhey, are you okay?â albedoâs gentle tone would break you out of your own thoughts at times, a concerned glint in his eyes. âyou seem⊠disturbed.âÂ
âiâm fine,â youâd muttered back with a sigh, forcing yourself to flash a small smile in his direction as you tried to bury those memories far back. âjust thinking about something, yâknow.â
âwell, you know we are all here if you wish to speak your mind. itâs been too long.â albedo smiled sincerely at you, patting your shoulder.Â
that urge to spill your guts to albedo and tell him why you didnât want to even go into the front of your own bakery grew intensely over the next few days, especially when youâd catch his attentive eyes watching you as your eyes glazed over and your mind went somewhere else. he would never pressure you nor ask too many questions, but that same gentle smile on his face would always assure you that whatever you had on your mind, he was willing to listen.Â
âboss, someoneâs here for you!âÂ
just as you came around the corner with a small sigh and pushing your loose strands of hair away from your face, your eyes found a pair of crimson eyes already narrowed in your direction with that same teasing smile. lohen was sitting at his regular spot by your ordering station, a cup of black coffee already held in his hands, yet it seemed he hadnât taken a single sip yet.Â
âtook you long enough,â you jabbed in his direction, pretending not to notice how the others were staring at you with flabbergasted expressions as you picked up the jar of blueberry syrup and poured some into lohenâs awaiting cup, rolling his eyes as he winked in your direction.Â
lohen let out a satisfied hum, licking over his reddened lips as his eyes searched your face, falling to your lips a second too long before they came back up to meet your awaiting eyes. he was obviously relishing in how you were waiting for an answer, arms crossed over your chest and an eyebrow quirked in his direction. âdidnât realize you missed me so much, bunny.âÂ
it was a sunny day with no clouds in sight and the sky as bright as ever, casting a certain joy over the streets of mondstadt. the beaches were most likely packed with people looking to relax, the bars were lined with people sitting outside enjoying their cold beverages, the stores were empty but content with the lack of customers, and inside your bakery sat only two other people, both hidden away in the corners with headphones on and enjoying cold beverages. other patrons had purchased their drinks and left with a smile, headed out to enjoy the great weather and participate in the first real day of summer for teyvat.Â
and inside your bakery, the usual cloud of confusion and veiled flirting hanging above you and lohen on days like these seemed to be replaced by a sunny disposition, lohenâs smile a little less sharp and with a warmer tone, while the usual scowl on your face seemed less cold and more playful than usual. venti and dahlia were observing with poorly concealed curiosity. as were albedo and durin from the back, bennett hiding away in the industry fridge but still observing from a distance due to his fear of lohen. and they all had the same reaction when you playfully rolled your eyes at him and landed a small flick on his forehead, leaving lohen grinning up at you as his hand grasped yours, placing a small kiss on your knuckles.Â
âitâs rude to vanish for two days without letting me know.âÂ
âitâs all varkaâs fault, bunny. i told him to let me text you, but oh no, it was oh so important that i took care of the mission immediately.âÂ
âwell, is it done?âÂ
âobviously, bunny. otherwise i wouldnât be sitting here, admiring your beautiful face.âÂ
âshut up.âÂ
âmake me, and make it hurt.âÂ
âoh my archons, youâre such a freak.âÂ
âdonât act like you donât like it.âÂ
venti could feel his knees buckling under him whilst watching the two of you flirting so blatantly in front of everyone, your usual banter having become a lot more flirtatious and perhaps sincere. he was used to lohen firing off remarks to flatter you and staring at you as if youâd hung the stars, the moon, and the sun in the sky with your own two hands, but he was not used to lohen being so sincere in his words with you. he had heard you casually asking about lohenâs work before, clearly fascinated by the idea of working for a task force, but he was not used to you clearly amused by lohenâs actions and playing along. and he certainly wasnât ready for lohenâs fingers to intertwine with yours as he leaned over the counter to mumble something in your ears, to which youâd roll your eyes and slap his shoulder, lohen letting out a wolfish laugh at your annoyance.Â
âare theyââ
âseriously dating?â dahlia was equally appalled, somehow convinced that he had somehow been teleported to an alternate reality in his sleep; that this was merely the product of multiverses and alternate selves. because in what fucking universe were you and lohen, an annoying flirting customer who clearly had a crush on the chronically tired baker who clearly didnât care for said flirting customer, having a calm and overly friendly relationship with your fingers intertwined and your words laced with familiarity and affection?Â
venti observed the way lohen would poke at your fingers and the way heâd smile up at you with so much adoration in his eyes, as if you were the only one he saw, but the more surprising aspect of it was the smile on your face as you nodded along to whatever he was telling you. see, venti knew something might be going on between you two, especially as your closest friend in the world, but he didnât really expect it to evolve into this. however, he merely assumed that whatever sort of blossoming relationship you two had commenced before you got sick mustâve evolved into a very strong bond throughout lohenâs dedication to take care of you whilst sick.Â
even after lohen left with a brush of his knuckles to your cheek as you tried to push him away, grumbling beneath your breath about how annoying he was all while he laughed loudly and openly at your half-assed annoyance, venti was truly struggling to hold himself back from asking you questions. even when he saw you pull out that signature pink flip phone with the beautiful keychain, the one he knew lohen had gifted you a few months back, the one youâd pretended you didnât know was from lohen but never removed from your phone, and saw you biting your lip to hold back a smile as your fingers flew across the keys, he knew better than to ask you questions.Â
after all, he could understand if you did not wish to tell everyone that you and lohen were actually dating after all these months of flirting and playing hard to get, stringing him along and watching him get pulled along happily. he also understood if you didnât want anyone to know that lohen was the one whoâd been taking care of you, so when lohen muttered something about it the next day, venti was understanding.Â
âyou get what i mean, right?â lohen swirled a hand around, staring directly into ventiâs eyes as he made sure to stay out of your view even if you did have your back turned to them. âshe doesnât want everyone to know already, especially not that iâve been taking care of her while she was sick; you know how she is. strong, stubbornâŠâÂ
venti let out a sigh, twirling his braid around his finger and trying to suppress the odd feeling he got from lohenâs crimson eyes staring up at him. âi guess youâre right. sheâs never been one to openly ask for help or share anything about herself. but i hope you know as her best friend, iâm totally obligated to give you the speech. if you hurt her, cheat on her, or do any of the sort, iâm afraid weâre gonna have a problem, mister vice captain.âÂ
âoh ho,â lohen laughed freely, clasping a hand over his own mouth as a wolfish smirk broke out on his face, one hand drifting down to land on his dagger. âwell, color me surprised, venti. never thought you had that in ya! but i promise, cross my heart and hope to die, swear on the honor of the archons above and bastards below that iâll never hurt, harm or betray your best friend. if i do, feel free to plunge my very own dagger straight into my heart and twist it âtil thereâs no blood left to drain.âÂ
ââŠâÂ
âtoo much?âÂ
âway too much.â venti shuddered at lohenâs grim words, grimacing as he spun back around and prepared the usual black coffee, grabbing the jar of your special blueberry syrup and placing it on the table, knowing that the second the coffee was done, lohen would be asking for you. âbut, iâm glad youâre serious about her. she deserves a good partner and frankly, i have absolutely no idea what she sees in you but if sheâs fine with dating a freak who loves to talk about violence, then so be it.âÂ
lohenâs grin grew in a predatory way, leaning back in his chair as he crossed his arms over his chest, eyes glazing over as memories came soaring back into his mind. âoh, trust me, she loves my freakiness.â
âi didnât mean that, you fucking buffon!â venti grabbed the towel from the desk, rapidly bunching it up and throwing it at lohenâs face, gagging as the true meaning of lohenâs words caught up to him, finally giving him an answer about the small bruises littered across your collarbone which youâd tried to cover up with makeup. âugh, donât ever say that in front of me again.âÂ
the noise from venti and lohen would end up attracting your attention as well, coming to the front to greet lohen with a small smile and immediately dropping the usual amount of syrup into his drink as he smiled at you, whipping out his phone to show you pictures he took on his way home from work, the little bunny hidden away in the bushes hiding from lohen. admittedly, venti observed the two of you with a sense of happiness upon seeing how excited you seemed at the video of lohen chasing after the bunny for a video to show you. venti had known you for years and knew the things youâd struggled with from a young age, especially your habit of never really sharing whatever may be going through your head and always pretending to be fine. yet now, seeing the free smile on your lips and the flush on your cheeks as youâd abandoned your spot behind the counter, instead standing by lohenâs side as he showed you more videos, venti could tell you were genuinely happy.Â
lohenâs one arm was wrapped around your waist, holding you close to his own body as his other hand held his phone over the counter, showing you the videos and pictures heâd taken. you had leaned down to stare at the screen, a few strands falling to cover your eyes, and before he could even move to swipe them away, your eyes flickered to his and shot him a wink as you pushed back your own hair, averting your eyes back to the bunny videos. dahlia and venti were stunned watching lohenâs thumb gently running across the buckle of your belt, tracing circles into your stomach with his remaining fingers. it was early in the morning, sure, and there were barely any people in the bakery or anywhere near, but never did they think theyâd see you participate in such a discreet, but, nonetheless, public display of affection; youâd always been a private person, but clearly something about lohen allowed you to lower your barriers and find yourself at ease.Â
âwhat happened to the bunny?â you questioned once there were no more videos, turning in lohenâs grasp and staring straight down at him as his crimson eyes revered you from the lower position, both arms now wrapped around your waist as your finger poked at the cute little birthmark beneath his eye.Â
lohen let out a sigh of contentment. âcalled barbara and had her pick it up, you know how she loves animals. itâll probably be kept alongside the others down at the church.âÂ
the atmosphere in the bakery was as serene as ever, the morning rays beaming in through the door and windows as a slight breeze kept the bakery cool. the plants strung along the walls brought the needed pop of greenery and the feeling of nature, as did the flowers placed in beautiful handmade vases on each table, string lights blended into the plants hanging on the walls, creating a truly magical atmosphere. your gaze fixated back onto the white floor, unwillingly thinking back to that night many weeks ago when you almost lost your life. but then a tap on your waist snapped you out of your own stupor, and as you glanced with furrowed eyebrows and a pit of unease settling into your stomach, your hazy eyes fell upon lohenâs as he shook his head gently, silently refusing to let you go back to that night. his smile seemed less cocky this time around, imbued with a warmth you had become rather familiar with, and you relished in the way his cold fingers continuously drew patterns on your waist, determined to keep you grounded and safe, even if it was from your own memories.Â
âbunny, donât go back there. i promise you everythingâs handled, youâll never have to think about that again.â lohen kept his voice low, sleeves of his shirt rolled as his one arm rose to rest against your neck, pulling you down to his eye level. âiâll always keep you safe, i promise.âÂ
there was a certain twinkle swimming around in his eyes as they bore into yours, something that felt on the border of pure and unadulterated obsessionâsomething dangerous. to say youâd never realize that the luster in his alluring eyes always seemed unhinged, almost scary, would be a lie, for it was one of the first impressions youâd picked up on: he wasnât normal. then came the frequent offers to dispose of anyone whoâd been nasty to you, the sing-songy lilt to his tone always veering on the line between playful and psychotic. you knew he never joked about these threats, and you knew that just one word would have him racing to use those daggers for your benefit. that kind of power was intoxicating, you had to admit. a man like lohen at your beck and call, ready to do anything for you, his eyes always lingering on your figure like you were the goddess whom he revered and the only one who mattered in any room.Â
venti and dahlia had returned to servicing other customers, greeting them cheerfully and taking orders smoothly, one churning out the coffees whilst the other tapped in the orders and accepted the payment. if any eyes fell upon you and lohen, no words being spoken, they would draw the attention away with their exuberant personalities, letting you and lohen share whatever moment you were having. but from the back, albedo found himself leaning against the counter, observing the two of you with a curious hum. Â
weeks passed and everything went back to normal, the bakery going back to its usual business with you meeting in for your shifts like always. durin improved vastly in no time, and often, youâd have him meet as the second person overall and albedo start later so he could stay longer for the rushes in the noon and evenings, seeing as your three part-timers were in their exam period. the only difference was lohenâs presence no longer being a tornado of flirtatious remarks and longing glances. he no longer came by every morning to grab his coffee from you, indulging in shameless but abnormal flirting. instead, the staff at your bakery became more so used to seeing him either hanging around the bakery upon showing up for shifts or seeing him waiting outside the bakery for you as your shift ended, most likely holding some sort of bucket of flowers or small present for you.Â
it was no longer a secret that you and lohen were dating, especially not after durin had walked in on the two of you making out in the corner of your kitchen, scaring the life out of the poor boy. whilst you awkwardly sent him off to recount the inventory, letting your flushed face fall into lohenâs firm chest, your boyfriend merely laughed in rotten amusement, relishing in the opportunity to flaunt his affection for you.Â
lohen barely slept at his own home anymore, more so than spending every night at yours. if he wasnât swinging by the end of your shift to spend time with you due to his own work, heâd make sure to text you so you knew. dinner was always eaten together, whether it was made in chaos by the two of you squeezed into your kitchen or whether it was a late night stop at one of the restaurants. the members of lohenâs task force became accustomed to seeing the man walk in on a regular basis with dark bruises littered across his collarbones or neck, his messy hair looking messier than usual, or lips still bitten and swollen from whatever the two of you had been up to; both of you were glowing from this newfound relationship, and even as lohen brought you over for a formal welcome, he reveled in how well you fit in, how some of the lower ranked agents and officers ogled after you in sheer lust but faltered when they learned that you were the girlfriend of none other than vice captain lohen himself.Â
âyou two are like two peas in a pod,â venti offhandedly remarked one morning to lohen as he sat by the bar, sipping his coffee. for once, varka had messaged him and told him to start later, and so, heâd decided to kill time at your bakery while you worked hard as ever.Â
lohen had yet to tell you about his work, about what his title truly entailedâa fact only known by varka who was the leader of the task force, and his vice leader jean, who were both overseeing the various sub-teams within their task force. whereas some of the other teams took care of various aspects such as logistics or defense, lohenâs team were in charge of reconnaissance and gathering information on people; that was the official responsibility of him and his team. but a lesser known fact was lohenâs responsibility as lead interrogator and the one who took care of anyone who needed to be disposed of. the same hands which had saved you from certain death and now held you with reverence and adoration were the same hands with the blood of countless people on them, stained red by blood yet equally stained by love for you.Â
âhmm, really?âÂ
âi never thought youâd actually win her over, yâknow?â venti teased lohen and even with that glare directed in his own direction, sending a shiver down his spine, he continued his line of thought. âat first, at least. then you became more, i donât know, sincere, and she became more receptive. smiling whenever you called her that godawful nickname, actually entertaining your stupid jokes. and i really thought you were just messing around at first, but then it just clicked for me.â
lohen quirked an eyebrow at venti, suddenly very interested in this conversation with your absolute best friend in the entire world, pleased by the quietness of the bakery. âoh? do explain.âÂ
âyouâre really fucking weird but you always come off as honest, remembering whatever sheâd mentioned or bringing little trinkets by that actually fit her. she is someone who wants to be seen for who she is, someone who wants to be appreciated for who she is, bad habits and all. someone who will care for her and respect her boundaries no matter what, like you did when she got sick. i know she was appreciative of that.âÂ
but the second those words registered in lohenâs mind, he knew something wasnât right. his hand gripped harder around the mug as he tried to chew on ventiâs words, mentally breaking down very single word until it finally dawned on him why ventiâs words had bothered him. âwhat do you mean, like i did when she got sick?âÂ
âhm?â venti didnât seem to have noticed the sudden blankness on lohenâs face nor the harsher tone, instead merely preparing yet another coffee for a customer, handing it off with a smile as he began explaining. âoh, well, you basically nursed her back to health and took care of her for weeks. thatâs, like, the ultimate sacrifice in her books, iâll have you know. as an only child, sheâs never really been used to being the center of attention, never really asking for help, but you taking time off work so early in a relationship to care for her? i donât like praising men âcause ew, yuck, i hate men. but thatâs the kind of love we all want, really.âÂ
the silence in the bakery was replaced by a ringing in lohenâs ears; his brain was now truly working overtime as the pieces in his own head began shaping into a larger puzzle. something about this situation wasnât right; it wasnât according to his plans. he knew something was off from ventiâs words, but as he lined up ventiâs words with the individual steps of his plan, he began to see discrepancies.Â
âonly child? i thought she had a sister in sumeru?âÂ
âoh my archons, no way! that was a lie, she fired off to some stupid customer who kept insisting she looked familiar to him,â venti laughed heartedly, never once seeing the slight widening of lohenâs eyes or the slightest tick in his face. âsheâs an only child, grew up in the countryside with her parents until she moved out. but she did tell me all about how you were oh-so-sweet and gentle, taking care of her when she was ill, making sure to braid her hair carefully and all. never pegged you as a proper gentleman, lohen.âÂ
however, lohen had stopped listening to venti, his eyes unfocusing as he stared at the wall behind the man. if you didnât have a sister, you knew he was the one whoâd been running around your apartment, changing your clothes and making sure you stayed fresh and clean even when unconscious. you knew he was lying to you this whole time and just let him. you mustâve known by now that you never informed him of your address before you lost consciousness, meaning you also knew heâd been to your apartment building multiple times without you knowing. you knew he was deceiving you, trying his very best to manipulate you with white lies and lingering touches, and you just let him. despite all of this, you allowed him in your home, in your bed, kissing you every morning and every night; drinking your coffee and making dinner in your home; taking showers with you in the mornings; soaking in the bathtub together at night; and allowed him to touch you in every way imaginable whilst knowing he was a stalker with a severe obsession for you.Â
as his eyes slowly came back into focus, a new sense of panic and fear bloomed in his chest. if you knew about all of this, did you also know that he had killed the men whoâd hurt you? did you know that he insisted on not telling anyone else so he could slither closer into your life and become someone worthy of your trust even if it was through nefarious means? but when he finally worked up the courage to glance into the kitchen, hoping to catch a glimpse of your beautiful back working your arms into a large batch of dough, he was once more left in a state of surprise.Â
for you were already staring right at him, arms crossed over your chest and eyes piercing into his with a blank expression on your face. but as his eyes met yours and his brain began fearing the worst, thinking youâd already reached out to varka about his behavior to report him or that you were merely playing the long game and hoping to catch him red-handed in his crimes, his heart skipped a beat when a slow smirk made its way onto your face, head cocking to the leftâthe same crazed smile often worn by himself. your phone was stuffed into your back pocket, but he could see the keychain hanging from it, swaying around in the airâthe very same keychain which held a tracker relaying your whereabouts to him.Â
you knew.Â
he was certain. you knew all about his plans: you knew heâd been obsessed with you since that first encounter, coming back every day with hopes of winning you and gifting you a keychain to continuously monitor your location. you knew heâd murdered the people whoâd dared hurt you, that heâd lied about taking care of you, and that he had essentially manipulated you into falling in love with him.Â
yet the realization was not as jarring as heâd assumed. because within your eyes, he could spot that same fire, that same gleam of pure and unadulterated obsession directed right at him as you just stared at him. and he had to wonder.Â
had he truly manipulated you into believing every word heâd ever said or had he been the fly caught in your web of lies?Â
a matching smile spread across lohenâs face, delighted in seeing that same craziness swirling around in your eyes as you let a finger trace across that scar on your throat, the one youâd received in a robbery gone wrong; one lohen now found himself thinking about once more. had it truly been a coincidence that you had walked into your bakery while it was being robbed, or had that been part of your plan to alert lohen of an abnormality in your daily routine, encouraging him to take action and thus finding you in a vulnerable stage, allowing you to manipulate him into thinking he was finally in a position to manipulate you?Â
he would never know. and he found that he didnât really care. because seeing the way you stared at him like he was the only person to ever exist, knowing you were just as fucking crazy as him, hiding your scheming nature behind sarcastic smiles and loyal friendships.Â
he knew heâd irrevocably found his soulmate.Â

your day off has been quite good.
you were doing the hobbies you set aside in the past, you cooked your favorite meal, watched whatever it is that you enjoyed, and took a nap in the afternoon like a little kid having siesta.
you did everything you could possibly do just to not let your mind wander off to him. yesterday night was just another night for youâor at least it should beâbut something about him felt different.
cw: weapon play? they are not real but just in case âââ Ëđ!!
Imagine lohen using ice versions of all of his weapons like his knives and guns when he is having sex with his lover (you) to tease. He only uses them when his bunny is being a brat because he wants to punish you. His sadistic tendencies have him dragging the ice knives across your body, placing sloppy kisses as he goes. He might even put them in you to get you nice and ready to take him since he really is packing a masterstroker. He'll press the ice gun against your head while he's real deep in you and warns you that if you stop making those darling noises that never fail to make his head go fuzzy, the "gun" will go off.
i hope you all have been enjoying the few works i've released! it's literally only my first week of writing fanfics ever so i'm still learning how to go about everything!

You canât recall the last time you ended up between a manâs legs because you wanted to.
âBunny,â Lohen moans, his fist balled into the hem of his shirt, pulled halfway over his defined stomach. âF-fuck, thatâs good.â
Your hand slides up and down Lohenâs shaft, coated in a thick layer of lube from the stash in your purse. You watch the expressions that flicker across his face as you switch from a two-fingered grasp to your full fist, delighting in the way he turns his chin to the sky. His chest heaves under his button down, stretching the fabric with each heavy gulp of air he takes, making your own swell with pride. With soft breaths, you twist your fist around him on your way up and down, feeling him throb against your palm.
Maybe itâs because you arenât used to doing this with someone you like, but you take extra notice of how Lohen whimpers. He digs his teeth into his lip when you do something he likes, and when you try to ease off the pressure, he whines. His hips snap up into your palm sporadically, like if you gave him the chance, heâd fuck himself instead.
You feel a clench between your legs. A moistening of the fabric between your thighs.
âNn,â Lohen whines, needy and breathy. His nails claw at the couch. âPut your thumb on it again, Bunnyânn.â
You do as he asks, and he repays you with another sweet whimper. Rubbing your thumb against his glans, smearing his precum all over his head, you stare longingly after Lohen, satisfied thoroughly by his red-faced gasping. His hips buck into you again, and a tiny spurt of precum stains your fingers.
âOh, fuck,â he says, his brows furrowing, teeth gnashing together. âBunny, I just mightâcum.â
You smile. âWouldnât it be better to do it in my mouth?â
His eyes open and bulge. Staring at you with that shocked expression, Lohen thrusts his dick once more. A hot line of seed erupts from his bulging tip, running down your fingers, turning your handjob both wet and sticky. You wring it out of him, he cums again, and with another shy moan, he falls limp in your hand.
Lohenâs looking at you, but itâs almost like heâs not physically present. He pants raggedly, his lips parted, so focused on staring at you that a trickle of drool runs down his chin. You gently set him down before lifting your hand to your mouth.
You watch him as you lick yourself clean. His tongue swipes across his lower lip, and with his mouth closed, he breathes heavily through his nose instead. His face is still soaked in crimson, the color consuming him from his hairline to his chest. As you suck his bitter cum off your fingers, you watch his expression morph.
âThâŠthanks,â he says, his voice somewhat shaky. âYouâreâŠreally good at that.â
You smile. âOne of the perks of the job, I guess.â
âHuh.â
Lohenâs breath catches so hard, you hear it. He leans over his thighs, and all of a sudden, itâs almost like he was never struggling for air in the first place. Those eyes of his are wide, staring just a hairâs breadth away from your own. In a low, growling voice, he asks you, âWhat?â
Shocked, you stumble back onto your heels. You blink rapidly, unsure whatâs consumed him, and mumble, âI-I saidâŠone of the perksâŠof the jobâŠâ
He tilts your chin up, forcing you to look back into those searing eyes. They donât blink. They donât waver. His tone remains grave.
âYouâve done this before?â
Your jaw drops. Shame flushes you as you stammer, âY-yes. But never with anyone IÂ like, Lohenâ.â
âSomeone made you do this with them?â
âI wouldnât say made me,â you sputter, shaking your head. âItâs pretty normal for cabaret girls to, um. Sell their services to clients on their own time. But IâŠitâs not like I want to, I justâŠâ
Tears poke at the corners of your eyes. You feel dirty, sinful, full of shame. The red letters âOVERDUEâ flash through your mind, the sensation of calloused palms, the feeling of fists in your hair preceding dollars tucked into your cleavage. You feel nauseous, your eyes flicking around the darkness of Lohenâs condo as you search for the words to salvage this.
âIâm sorryâ,â you try to say.
âIâll kill them.â
A chill creeps up your spine. Goosebumps rise along your arms as the room begins to feel so cold, youâre certain Lohen left the window open. His eyes; piercing, searing, unblinking; remain fixed to yours. In a cold, mechanical voice, he repeats, âIâll kill them.â
âWhâŠâ You lift your hand to your heart, feeling it race a mile a minute under your palm. âLohen, whatâŠ?â
He leans over, catching your chin between his thumb and forefinger, and gives you a kiss so hot, your goosebumps nearly settle. The taste of your salty tears and his sweet apple cider fills your mouth, the texture of his tongue tickling your upper palette. He kisses you hard, his mouth practically mashing against yours as he sucks your lips again, again, and again.
When he pulls away from you, his eyes are soft again. He brushes the tears off your cheeks, and you quiver beneath him. He presses a ginger kiss to your browbone.
âMoney problems?â he asks gently.
You feel compelled to tell the truth, lest the frigid Lohen from before make his reappearance.
âItâs okay,â he says, kissing you chastely. âDonât cry, Bunny. You couldnât have known that I was coming to save you.â
Your lips tremble. âSaveâŠmeâŠ?â
âIâve got you,â he insists, butterfly kisses to your cheek. âIf itâs money you need, Iâve got you. Iâll take care of you, Bunny, I promise.â
Something about his intensity doesnât sit right within your gut.
âCome on, Princess,â he says, his eyes twinkling like that of a charming prince. âWhereâs that smile of yours?â
Another tear rolls down your face. Slowly, unsurely, you make your lips do as he says, but the motion doesnât feel natural.
âI love you,â Lohen murmurs, grinning with his upper row of teeth. âIâm here now, so I promise Iâll protect you. No one will ever touch you again, Bunny, IÂ swear.â
He kisses your cheek and your eyes slide to the floor-to-ceiling windows. The movie on the TV glares against the dark glass, projecting a flipped image of a princess embracing her knight, laid right over top of you and Lohen. As Lohen presses his mouth to your skin repeatedly, you feel weak.
Maybe you fucked up.
Or maybe, you need this.
âI love you,â he repeats desperately. âI love you so much, Bunny. Iâd fucking do anything for you, I promise.â
This isnât right. You donât know love, but this doesnât feel right.
âDonât cry, pretty girl,â he whispers. âIâm here for you.â
Even if it doesnât feel right, it feels good.
So you relax under his touch. As he kisses your tears away and whispers sweet nothings into your ear, you close your eyes.
And you pray you havenât made a grave mistake.
