A bright crimson Turkenlouis Oriental poppy flower stands out against a dark background, its ruffled petals and green leaves creating a striking contrast. The droop of the heavy petals, covering its detailed center, give it a sweet, bashful expression.

"Bashful Poppy" ... the latest add to my shop (that I actually shot way back in 2012!) ... is a Turkenlouis Oriental Poppy from the garden at our old house in Maryland.

I've always loved poppies ... especially the way the light can filter through the almost translucent, crepe-paper-like petals. When we bought this little sweetie, somehow I didn't know this variety would be sooooo different (no idea how I could have been so wrong). But it certainly had its own kind of beauty. For the first few years after we planted them, I never saw them. Turned out, they bloomed for us for only a short period of time and unless I happened to be in that part of the garden at just the right time, I missed them. Finally on a perfect day in May of 2012, set against the deep shade of the trees behind them, I found them blooming in the sun. I ran to the house, grabbed the camera, and had some fun!

The Fire Pit ... latest add to my shop ...

Several years ago on a frozen winter's night on top of Blue Knob Mountain in Central Pennsylvania, we lit up my husband's then-newest addition to the cabin, a beautiful hand-built stone fire pit. He worked hard and sacrificed much (including a knee) to create it. In the darkest of February nights, we drank a toast to warmth, to skiing, to friends and to good times!

"Arizona Apricot Flower" … a blanket flower, also known as a Gaillardia …

I hand painted this one, digitally, iin #Rebelle with their and Karen Bonaker's great watercolor brushes from a photo I took a while back at the local nursery. Honestly it started out just as a doodle. I left it alone, then came back to it, and came back … trying different things. Finally decided it was kind of cute, so up it went onto my website. 😊 (it's not Ai)
