Do you come here often?
Hello Tumblr. It's been a while. Surprised to find you/me here!
Poetry of solace: Tankas on loss
my lover is dead for months I have shaved at night splashed on old bay rum in the hope that we might kiss that my lips might meet your bliss
I cannot let go language will not allow it what about it then? Buddhists and their attachments all I am is attachment
and then there are rules a winter image appears plums rot fallen leaves in so many syllables the poem's form frames the space
we end up painting the white picket fence to sell the house of our dreams Edgar Allan Poe's sister cried with him: mother don't die
you do not trust me to hold you safe surrender doesn't come easy don't want to be a big boy want to go on mummy's bike
winter in Cuillin my shadow sees naked girls in every cracked rock roping down an easy slope under Sgurr n'an Gillean
hating children's games I am someone else I left you with when I died the wounded child throws himself forbidden into the hole
utterly empty there he is my better self all encompassing he takes me with abandon holding me with your anger
Solving the problems of capitalism
This investment scheme for solar energy got me wondering if you can use capitalism to solve the problems of capitalism? Like fighting for peace?
Automobile safety
Forget airbags! To make cars safer install a 12 inch steel spike in the centre of the steering wheel. Or better, a 12 bore in the steering column on the same trigger mechanism as the airbags. Just watch how carefully people would drive then. Bet it would reduce fatalities.
I don't understand ...
How people can eat meat they way they do and drive cars the way they do. Two such deeply destructive practices and yet so much of our economy hangs on them being done to extreme excess. In a way they are our totems and they will be our death.
Intrinsic value
Is there any such thing as intrinsic value? Really? I suggest all value is culturally inherited. It is far too easy to talk about the intrinsic value of sport or art as it it were self evident. No thing can be good (or bad) in itself. Things are only good or bad to the extent they affect ourselves and others.
Words
The more I read the more I bleed The leeches drain me dry A pale weak shell of hollow words Is all that holds me now.
Tools for tools
What is the point of being interested in tools for their own sake? OK beautiful tools are a joy to hold, but to bring joy to the world they need to be used. Like geeking about geeking is pointless unless you make something with your phone or your latest social media tool you are ... well ... just a tool.
This is the way the world ends
We are sooo f****d. Pathogens, in extremis, limit their populations, whether we will take down the whole shebang with our collapse, having consumed our host, remains to be seen... oh, wait, no one left to see. Sorry, in a bit of a grump about the human condition. My money is on a dead heat between antibiotic resistant bacterial infection and climate change, but it could be water wars or... What would you prefer: bang or wimper?
