you’re guilted over a previous mission.
he hadn’t seen you all day. which felt like forever to him since he didn’t get a lick of sleep last night, but it was only noon. tony’s hands worked over the metal he was welding for a new suit. trial and error, but the more he made the better the next one became.
he stops abruptly as he finished his pass over the metal with a sigh. he leaned back, pushing his red flamed hood up to admire the bead, but his thoughts lingered on you. he felt the heat radiate off of the metal and onto the skin of his face.
tony takes his gloves off, throwing them onto the table in front of him before checking his phone.
he saw that you responded to his text about him asking what you were doing and why he hadn’t seen you yet, to which you just responded that you were busy.
especially since he knew you hadn’t left, and the way you responded was unlike you.
he stripped his welding jacket and hood off in a couple seconds, the same couple seconds he decided to find you.
when he finally made it up to the main level, he heard steve and bucky talking in the living room as he walked in.
they were lounged on the couch talking while watching a movie.
“hey barnes, have you seen y/n?” tony questions, leaning over the couch with his hands braced on the top of it.
bucky turns with a shrug.
“wanda was complaining earlier of her not showing up to make breakfast with her this morning. haven’t seen her all day.” he answers before steve speaks.
“i heard a thump come from her room when i passed by earlier, sounded like something being thrown.” he starts with furrowed brows. “when i knocked, she barely opened the door and told me she was fine, that she just dropped something.”
tony’s stomach churns, it sounded bad.
“but that definitely wasn’t something just dropping. sounded like she hurrled something at the wall.”
tony sighs, massaging the bridge of his nose as he stands up straight.
“anything else?” tony questions, beginning to walk in the direction of your room.
“just make sure she’s alright. we don’t like to see her upset. no one does.” steve calls out to him.
“no need to worry, rogers.”
tony makes his way down the slimmed hallway in a hurried pace, already seeing your door in the distance. he knocks. hurriedly.
he hears no response from you, just shuffling in your room.
“honey?” he calls out, putting his ear against the door.
“yeah?” you answer, walking to the door, opening it an inch. “what’s up?”
his shoulders fall upon seeing you. you looked beautiful of course, but you seemed like you hadn’t slept, your eyes were tired and he could practically feel the emotion closed behind them.
“what’s going on?” he questions, his eyebrows furrowed.
“well first, you look like you havent slept for a while, you’re barely opening your door and you’ve been acting weird.” he answers, trying to reach out for you.
“nothing is going on. i’m just… working.” you defended after a few moments of silence.
he pushes the door open after listening to you, not wasting a second to pull you into his arms.
he notices your room, papers scattered across your desks, endless more attached to your wall, red string, images, graphics posted up around them like you had been working, just not something that looked healthy. there were books scattered across your room, one face down on the floor, which he instantly knew was the one you had thrown. your laptop was on your desk, and he could only tell that you had someones information pulled up.
he pulls away just enough to look at you, his arms still around you. he says your name, once, but enough to reach your heart.
you sigh, rubbing your forehead and pulling away.
“it’s… just work. a lot of it.” you answered, and he walks over to your laptop.
“the victim from our last mission?” he questions, then starts looking over the walls.
you sit on your bed, your head in your hands with your elbows resting on your knees.
“i can’t get it out of my head, tony. that kid vanished right in front of me.” you sighed, and the break in your voice made him turn immediately.
he walks over, kneeling in front of you with his hands prying at yours, desperate to see you.
“it wasn’t your fault.” he answers, his voice gentle.
“thats what you think. i know what i feel. i need to find him. i’m getting there, tony. i can feel it. i’m so close to getting him home safely.”
he sighs with a shake if his head.
“you can’t do it like this. you wanna save the kid?” he questions, following your eyes.
“then you have to be healthy when you do it. you can’t save anyone if you havent slept in days, or eaten, or taken care of yourself.” he reasons, pulling your hands into his as he sits down next to you on your bed. “i’ve been where you are. i’ve deprived myself of everything i need because i thought that every minute wasted is a minute something could happen. you never know what could happen in a minute, right?”
“exactly. i need to do this now.” you murmured, not letting the lump in your throat prevent you from speaking.
“no- no. that’s not what i meant.” he sighs, squeezing your hands. “let me help you. let me take care of you. it’s my responsibility, you just have to let me.”
you jaw tightens, knowing deep down he was right, but you couldn’t shake the guilt. that boy needed you.
“let me help you, we’ll find the kid together. not just you and me, the team wants to help. they’re worried.” he interrupts your thoughts, pulling you against him. “the more manpower the better, right?”
you smiled against his shoulder, nodding.
“then it’s settled. let’s get you some food, i’ll run you a bath and you can rest. i’ll look over what you’ve been doing and run it over with the team. we’ll find him by the morning. i promise. that sound like a plan?” he asks, running his hand over your back.
“sounds like a plan, lover.” you smiled brighter at his words, feeling hope rinse over the guilt.
you feel out of place with the team.
nothing felt particularly wrong with you. you just felt out of place with the avengers for some odd reason. you joined about a year ago on a whim. you trained to stay out of the view of people, leaving before any police got there and before anybody could capture a solid picture of you. you were an anonymous ‘vigilante’. you fought solo. that was until you caught tony’s eyes. it was a high stakes situation. hundreds of people were caught in a tower, held hostage against a villain. you singlehandedly saved all of them, and the villain was taken to jail. no casualties. nobody was hurt but a couple people with minor injuries. unfortunately during that, many pictures were taken, many witnesses were able to described the masked vigilante and tony hunted to find you.
so now you’re an avenger, but that still hasn’t caught up to you. they were very welcoming, but they were all so close already so it was difficult not to feel like a third wheel. when you started dating natasha, it was a bit easier, but it still felt like you were only there because natasha wanted you to be there.
so naturally, you decided to distance yourself since you felt like a nuisance to the team. you didn’t try and go out with them or strike up conversation anymore. you only did things that had to do with work.
so today, straight after the finish of the mission debriefing you immediately dismissed yourself and headed to your room. you didn’t stay to talk with the team like they usually did.
of course, they noticed. exchanging looks as disappeared into the hallway.
“what was that?” bucky questions, confusion written all over his face.
“i honestly have no idea. she might just be tired after the mission.” nat mutters in response, but her eyes were on the door you just walked out of.
“that seemed a bit more than that.” tony shrugs and steve nods in agreement.
“i’ll go check on her.” nat stands, heading for the door.
“let us know if she’s alright.” wanda mumbles, her voiced laced with concern.
the door clicks shut behind natasha, her eyes on the hallway going left and right. her eyes lock onto the right, the way she’s hoping you went.
when she finally reaches your room, she could tell it was where you went. she could hear the tv playing behind the door and the light peeks out from the cracks.
she knocks three times and waits a couple seconds before walking in, seeing you laying underneath your covers watching tv.
“hey nat.” you greet her, your voice low with exhaustion.
“hey sweetheart.” she murmurs back, kicking off her shoes by the door. “what are you watching?”
“just watching a rerun of grease.” you answered, scooting over as she laid on the bed with you.
she pulls you to her, wrapping her arms around you as you put the blankets over her.
“what’s been on your mind?” she asks after a few minutes of silence.
your eyes stayed on the film playing in front of you. you almost wanted to fall asleep, especially with nats body heat keeping you cozy from the cold room.
“nothing really, just the mission.” you answered. “do you think i did well?”
“of course you did.” she anwered quickly. “everyone thinks you did amazing.”
“yes, everyone. is that hard to believe?” she questions, though her voice is soft.
“well, yeah. you guys are all legends, ima kinda just there.”
she sighs at your response, wishing she could take that feeling away.
“we’ve all been where you are. at some point, we were all the newbies to the team. it gets better. i know it’s hard to believe but everything is better with you here.” her voice comes out smooth, reassuring every last doubt you had.
it was true, they were all once new and nervous to the team. but eventually, like all new things go, they become familiar.
“they already love you, we all love you. the only thing left is getting rid of that doubt that you don’t belong here. you belong with us, baby.” she finishes, running her palm up and down your arm.
“thank you nat, you always know what to say.” you whispered against her shoulder.
for the rest of the night, she stayed by your side and washed all the doubt you had away, and by the time it was dinner with the team, you truly felt like you belonged.
you feel under the weather.
you were supposed to meet steve, sam, and bucky this morning at 8 AM for a run at the tidal basin, but you never showed.
it was 9:30 AM now, and they had already ran their laps, back in the kitchen to eat some well deserved breakfastz
“i thought y/n was supposed to run with us today?” sam speaks up after swallowing a bite of his food.
“yeah, i thought so, too.” steve murmurs, finishing his food and cleaning his plate in the sink.
“she’s not really one to skip up on training.” bucky adds, putting his plate in the sink for steve to clean.
“i’ll check on her after im done washing these dishes. maybe she just needed some extra sleep.”
as soon as he finished, he dried his hands off his pants quickly and made his way towards your room.
he checks his phone on the way, seeing it was now 10 AM, which you never usually slept past unless it was the day after a long mission or when you were sick.
he knocks on your door and waits for your response. upon hearing none, he walks in your room, the door slowly opening.
“honey?” he calls, before finally finding your sleeping figure curled up in your bed, peacefully enjoying the bliss of deep sleep.
he sighs in relief, his shoulders dropping from their once tense state.
he walks over to the side of the bed you were facing, kneeling to be closer to your level. he pushes the covers down from your face and presses a feather kiss to your forehead.
“wow, you’re running hot.” he whispers to himself, then notices the tissue box on your nightstand. he started to peace it together, concluding that you didn’t feel well.
he left you to sleep, taking a shower and running out to get medicine, snacks, and more tissues before returning back to your side.
he sets the bag down on the desk in your room and runs a towel under cold water. once he makes his way back to your bed he crawls in with you, stopping and slowing down when you turned in your sleep.
he pulls you against him, making sure you were still under your many layers of blankets. once in a comfortable position, he lays the towel on your forehead, hoping to ease your temperature and the headache you probably had.
he didn’t leave your side, especially when you woke up and needed help you refused to ask for.
you haven’t slept in days.
it wasn’t weird for you to hideaway in your room sometimes, it was just something you did especially when you needed some alone time. it was weird for you to not say anything to anyone, especially bucky.
he’s texted you a couple of times to see what you were doing, but you only responded saying good morning.
so as a good boyfriend would do, he stood in front of your door and knocked until you answered.
when you finally did, standing in front of him he could immediately tell what was wrong based on the bags underneath your eyes and the raw exhaustion that radiated off of you.
“what happened to telling me when you couldn’t sleep?” he questioned, walking in and closing the door behind him.
“you were on a mission most of the days, and i thought i would finally fall asleep last night. just didn’t want to bother. you needed rest.” you answered, stepping back as he walked past you.
he murmurs something under his breath then sighs.
“i put you above everything else.” bucky says, taking one of your hands and leading you to your bed. when you sat, he walked over to your curtains and pulled them shut, he flicks your lights off, turns the tv on and finds and old movie you loved before changing into one of his many outfits he kept in your room.
“what’re you doin?” you quiz, scooting back further into your bed.
he sets the tv remote down on your nighstand and crawls into bed with you.
“we are going to sleep. for a while.” he answers as he pulls you to him by your waist. he throws the comforter over the both of your bodies. his hold is tight, but not enough to hurt, just enough so you couldn’t escape.
you just smile, accepting your fate in his arms.
you are burdened with studies
you’ve been indulged in books, then your laptop, then more books and more laptop all day. not to mention your horrible last minute mission last night. it was a train wreck. as soon as you got home, bruce was already asleep in his room and you had lots of work to do, as your professor decided to give you double the work that week. you silently cursed yourself all through it for deciding to get more education.
it was now midday. you hadn’t checked your phone, and the only time you got up was to use the bathroom, take a shower (of course) and drink water. you couldn’t give up now, you were getting it done in one sitting, and nothing would stop you.
or so you thought, until you heard a knock against the door.
“yea?” you called out mindlessly, still indulged in the blue light of your laptop. you clicked away, finding a focus state that you had so desperately searched for.
“it’s me.” bruce called out from behind the shut door. “may i come in?”
“yep!” you called out once more, still focused on your laptop. it was second nature to respond unconsciously to bruce at this point.
he walks in slowly, like he was walking in to something dangerous.
“thought so.” he murmured to himself, and his presence drew you away from your laptop. “been working a lot, huh?”
“you have no idea.” you sighed, offering a laugh as you massaged the bridge of your nose.
your chair turns on it’s swivel in bruces direction, like it was offering you up to him so it could get one second of air.
“what’s up?” you question, turning back to your desk, this time skimming through a book.
he raises a bag in his hands.
“i’ve come to get you to take a break.” he sighsc shutting the door behind him and dropping the bag of breakfast down on the floor. “how pong have you been at this?”
“uhhh-“ you check the time on your watch and wince. “lost track. since i got home from the mission yesterday.”
it’s like alarm bells went off in his head as he stepped behind you, silently peeking at what you were doing.
“yesterday. got home around 10.”
he could feel his own shoulders tensing, matching your own.
“for someone as smart as you are, you know very well that it isn’t healthy to study that long. especially after a mission.” he murmurs, bringing his hands up to massage at your tensed shoulders.
“yeah, well you should tell my professor that.” you laughed, flicking to the next page. “he expects that he has normal students. not an avenger that fights crime all day and comes home to do work. i’m not gonna make the guy feel bad.”
“i’m not saying you should do that.” he quickly says, one of his hands moving to shut your book. “i’m saying you need a break. let me help you.”
“i don’t have time for a break unfortunately.” you murmur, but not even motioning to open the book back up. instead, you let yourself fall into the bliss of bruce massaging your stress away.
“look at it practically. you want to give your best work, right?” he questions.
you nod in response, “of course i do.”
“you need to be well rested to do that.”
you sigh at his intelligence, of course he was right, but on the other hand you were running out of time.
“by the end of this week.” you answered after a few fleeting moments of silence.
“it’s tuesday. you have all week to finish this, and don’t think i wont help you.” he laughs. “classic for you to think you’re running out of time when you have 5 more days.”
“true. i’d just rather get it done sooner rather than later.” you sighed, turning your chair to face him.
“how about we eat some breakfast at lunch time, take a big nap and then we can start this back up later?” he proposes, offering a hand to you.
you grab his hand with a nod.
“sounds practical enough for me.”
you socialized too much and needed a day in
you aren’t ignoring sam by any means, you just haven’t been out of your room all day except for breakfast with the team this morning.
he could tell something was up when all you did was eat your food, taking wanda and steve for the food then quickly kissing his cheek before running off to your room.
it was like you were allergic to being outside of it. he understood, of course because he knew you and knew after a long day of interaction, the next one must have little to none of it.
after a couple of hours of lounging in your bed, switching between playing on your phone, binging tv and your favorite hobbies, you heard a knock on your door.
you signed, hoping it wasn’t one of the avengers coming to annoy or drag you out to do something.
“yeah?” you called out, sitting up in your bed.
“can i come in sleepy head?” sam questions behind the wood, his voice playful as ever.
your shoulders relax and you slump back into your bed.
“you may.” you joked back, and a millisecond later your door opens.
“i have come to join you in your lazy day. bucky and steve were trying to drag me out but i told them my gorgeous girlfriend needed me.” he smiles, walking in plad in his pajamas.
he collapses practically on top of you, careful not to crush you. his arms wrap tightly around you, as you threw the covers of the both of you.
“so heroic of you.” you laughed at his dramatics, knowing there wasn’t any immediate emergency for him to be there.
“nap time?” he asks, already shutting his eyes.
you felt under the weather
you didn’t have time to hide in your room before you heard a knock on your door, alarming you from your sickly state in your bed.
you felt less than amazing, your head felt reading to explode, pressure behind your nose, your skin felt too tight, and your stomach felt like it would refuse to digest anything without consequences.
“yes?” your voice rung out, harsh from the hours of not speaking.
“may i come in, sweetheart?” wandas sweet voice came from behind the wood separating you.
the last thing you wanted was for your lover to see you in such a wrecked state, but you knew she wouldn’t judge you no matter how you looked or felt.
you pull the comforter up over your nose, leaving your eyes to watch the door.
“come in.” you replied, your voice cracking from the roughness in your throat.
your door opens slowly, in one hand she held a steaming bowl, the other shut the door behind her.
she walks over with a sympathetic smile, seeing the weak state you were in.
“i could practically feel your sickness the second i woke up.” she murmured, keeping her voice low as to not fuel your headache further.
you groan, sitting up in your bed slowly. how could you hide from her?
“that’s so sweet but also so sad.” you smiled.
she sits on the edge of your bed, setting the warm bowl on her lap.
“i made you a soup my mother use to make me when i felt ill. it always helped me feel better.” she explains, her hand rubbing comforting circles into your knee.
you frown in a loving way, feeling the warmth not only from the soup, but also from her love.
“you’re too good to me.” your hand rests on too of hers.
“you must forget of everything you do for me.” she smiles, scooping up a spoonful of the soup and bringing it to your mouth.
she helps you eat majority of the soup, even at the slow rate you were going. when you had eaten enough, she stands after placing a kiss to your forehead.
“i’m going to get you some medicine and fill up your waterbottle. you stay right here.” she announces, making her way to the door.
“it’s not like i could move if i wanted to.” you joke, even if you felt sickly you still had your humor. “i love you, wands.”
“i love you more, my love.” she smiles at you, watching you for a second more before going to retrieve your medicine.
you got into a disagreement with one of the avengers.
“it’s very unlike you to not come out of your room for so long.” you hear lokis voice rangs out beside you.
your head turns to your doorway, seeing he had been in your room.
“how long have you been standing there?” you question, turning back to the game you were playing on your tv.
“a long while, perchance.” he smiles, that wicked but playful demenor curving his lips. he finally moves, walking to sit on the bed beside you. “you have yet to acknowledge what i said.”
“i just want to relax today, that is your answer.” you answer quickly, shrugging as your fingers clicked against the controller.
his hand gently finds your back, the other taking the controller from your hands.
“mm mm.” he interupts, setting the controller on your bed. “it pains me when you aren’t entirely truthful with me, but it pains me more when you are upset.”
his hands rub comforting circles into your back, his eyes gently on yours.
you sigh, relaxing and leaning against him, your head in the crook of his neck.
“i got into an argument with tony.” you express. “we were having a meeting and i brought up the fact that we as a team need to be more careful about the missions we take from any government ran agency and instead take the missions the people express, because next thing you know were gonna be ran by them. and i think we all know that is a terrible possible future and we need to do everything in our power to prevent that.”
he nods, “that is entirely true. though i know very little of your government here, i know it is wicked.”
“exactly! that’s what i said. tony didn’t like that and said we didn’t have a choice. ‘it’s the law we must abide by’.” you explained, annoyed. “we must, my ass. we have the power as people to unify against corruption and use the strength we were given to take those people down.”
you sighed in frustration, shaking your head and leaning back up.
“i know tony is not a bad person, but i thought he was smarter than caving into this. i’ll go rouge myself.”
“as you should.” he encouraged, shaking his head.
“though i dont think i would be alone, im not the only one with sense on the team. steve backed me up along with half the team when it got heated. i ended up just walking off because he was riling me up on purpose. i shouldn’t have let him get to me.” you roll your eyes with frustration towards yourself and tony.
“do not blame yourself. you are standing for what is true, it is on him.” he smiles, his fingers brushing against your cheekbone. “it is very admirable.”
“thank you.” you smiled back, feeling seen amongst the difficulties.
“just give it time, I’m sure he will come around. you must not just hide in your room, you have every right to be here as everyone else.” he expresses.
“yeah, yeah. i know, i just didn’t want to run into him or anyone that agreed with him, but i ain’t run from my problems.” you answer, feeling your determination resurface with lokis encouragement.
“there you go. how about we go have lunch?” he proposes.
you had a bad day at work
you had arrived home a couple of hours ago after a long day at work. your coworkers decided to be rude and on top of that you had so much to do, so as soon as you got home you washed the day away and crawled up in bed to take a much needed nap.
your phone was on the charger and you never woke up to the sound of your notifications, so you didn’t respond to the borderline hundreds of texts pietro was sending you. much just consisted of him talking about everything he’s done today and how he wanted to see you and other spamming.
next thing he knew, he was at your door. he knocks, no response. so he creeps in, his eyes shut and he calls your name, also no response so he opens his eyes and sees your sleeping form sprawled out on your bed.
he smiles and his shoulders relax.
“guess it’s nap time.” he murmurs, his voice lower to not wake you.
the door shuts softly behind him and he creeps over to your bed as silent as he could. after setting his phone down on your nightstand he crawls into bed behind you, readjusting the blanket over you so you were more covered by leaving most of one of your legs uncovered because he knows you do that to regulate the heat.
his arms wrap around you gently, pulling you backwards against him as he throws the blanket over him as well.
“sleep well, my love.” he whispers, kissing the back of your head before relaxing and falling asleep to the sound of your peaceful breathing.
you felt overwhelmed from your responsibilities
being an avenger is more than just fighting and saving lives that people paint out as being easy. it’s not easy. it’s rough. you face an evil that most people wont ever have to face. things don’t always go the right way.
it was always a weight you had to carry, but after a recent mission you went on alone, it took a toll on you, everything felt like a drag path, now more than ever. the missions, the training, the meetings, the news, publics opinions, the team, your powers, your past, your present, your future, your life.
so you locked yourself in your room when you got home from a press conference in raw exhaustion. it was an endless cycle you felt you could never escape.
it was less than an hour before you heard a loud knock on your door, causing your head to pack up from their spot on your knees.
you get up from your spot on the floor and open the door to reveal thor, standing there like his world had turned upside down.
“has something happened? my stomach has been turning like something has gone wrong with you.” he questions, out of breath. “i cannot ignore it.”
“did you run here?” you counter, his chest beginning to slow.
“that does not matter. what troubles you?” he asks, stepping into your room and embracing you. one hand holds the back of your head, the other pulls you impossibly close to him.
with his embrace, you felt your heart give, you let yourself let go of trying to hold back your tears.
“i’m so overwhelmed. everything feels like too much.”
his frown deepens at your words, feeling his heart strings tug. he pulls you away just enough to look at you.
“everything will be okay. you are a strong warrior, one i have never had the grace to see before, and i have the honor to call you mine. you face so much and carry much weight on your shoulder yet you continue to face it and prosper. when the weight of the world gets to be too much, you have my shoulder to lean on. together we will carry it.” he reassures, his eyes flickering over you with raw determination and love.
he brings a thumb up to swipe away your tears as they fall.
“run to me when you feel this way. even when you’re happy, when you’re scared, when your world turns upside down. i will be there to turn it back.” he kisses your forehead and pulls you back against him.
“i love you, thor.” you murmur against his chest, feeling that weight begin to lift of your shoulders knowing you aren’t alone.
