Do you think the Black’s are religious? I’ve always headcanoned them to be Anglican but i can’t wrap my head around their relationship with the British monarch lol
I see the Blacks as catholic which is mainly my own projections (honestly, if my family read my stuff it would be like that scene from Euphora 'wait is this play about us?').
But I do have a 'logical' reason for seeing them as catholic too.
So the International Statute of Secrecy was signed in 1689, meaning wizards formally went underground when Europe was still dealing with the aftermath of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation.
By that point, England had been Protestant for over a century, but Catholicism still had a stronghold, particularly among the aristocracy, where recusant families clung to their faith despite persecution. Given that the wizarding world was in the process of removing itself from Muggle society, I can see the Blacks doubling down on Catholicism as another way to set themselves apart. Also, the English translations of the bible does counter their sense of superiority, "First they let commoners read the bible, what next? Muggles having wands." If you're reading my wip Pietas, this is along the lines of why Leone doesn't want a school built in Italy- democratising knowledge upsets the hierarchy.
That being said, I don’t think they were actually practicing in any meaningful way. It would be more about optics—having a massive family chapel, Latin inscriptions on their tombs, and having a hand in the church but with no real personal belief involved. The kind of people who only bring up religion when it’s helpful in making a point about tradition and respectability.
I think they respect Monarchy as a concept (divine right, inherited power, and strict lineage) but would look down on the royals for being muggles. Because the level of deference should only be reserved for the right kind of wizards, not for muggles in tiaras.
Reading actual books when fanfiction exists is one of the hardest things in the world—how am I supposed to enjoy something that doesn't have Remus Lupin in it?
Maybe in another life, things would be different.
I love Regulus with the whole “I know I will be dead long before you read this but I want you to know it was I who discovered your secret” thing. Like yes, I too couldn’t bear the thought of not getting credit for doing iconic shit even after my death.
Gollancz has signed world rights to two new novels by horror writer Jonathan Sims.
The synopsis says: “It’s the hottest summer on record and London is dying. Prices are high, pay is low, and stressed commuters are packed on to London Underground trains again like the pandemic never happened. To add to the misery, the temperatures underground just keep climbing and climbing, the heat trapped in the clay with nowhere to go.
“Five travellers on an unlucky tube carriage find themselves bound together one morning as witnesses to a single horrific event – an event they can’t quite seem to remember. They make an unlikely team: weary tube driver, a disillusioned civil servant, an ambitious city trader, an overwhelmed hotel worker and an unhoused young man just trying to get by – but now they must come together to confront what they have seen and stop it in its tracks. Because there’s something lurking in the stifling darkness and labyrinthine tunnels that run below London… something old, something vicious, and something very, very hungry.”
I couldn't be more excited to be working with @jonnywaistcoat on his next two novels! This is just more of what he does best - pulling apart the very seams of society and giving me very specific new sleep paralysis demons, and somehow getting me to say thank you afterwards.
And if you're near London next month, why not pop along to Gollanczfest to hear him chat all things horror with Joe Hill and V. V. James? Tickets are still available:

Hey guess what!
"The 9 years old girl who remained under the rubble for 10 hours has made it safely. I see no one sharing. If she were dead, everyone would share! Share positivity…"
Video of her ordeal.
When talking about Palestine, please also share and spread Palestinian strength!
We have been amplifying their pain and grief to open the world’s eyes to their lives for the past 75 years. But now let’s amplify Palestinian strength and resilience. For the people of Palestine will free Palestine from the river to the sea.

I mean yeah communication is key but so is a sense of understanding. Because if I tell you something and you're not willing to see where I'm coming from, then what's the point of telling you anything.
The fact that Tesla autopilots abort self driving 1 second before a crash so the company can state “self driving wasn’t active during the collision” should be grounds to dismantle the entire company.
Like, seriously, if you’re making 4000 pound death machines, and you program this shit to work on a technicality? Your company should be dismantled. Gone. No recourse. Just terrible shit dude
I'm really glad to see that everyone seems to be having a good time with The Magnus Protocol, and my heart is very full with all the wonderful comments people are making, but I do need to flag something up.
For some of these episodes, a lot of folks are giving me credit for stuff I did not actually write. The cases for episodes 3 and 4 were both by guest writers, Graeme Patrick and Cole Weavers respectively, and they really deserve some love thrown their way.
That's not to minimise my own part: me and Alex certainly do editing work on them, and add in a few bits here and there to make sure everything cohesively fits in with the overall story and tone of the show, but if you enjoyed these episodes, then Graeme and Cole are the ones to thank for it.
And for that matter, Alex wrote episode 2 and deserves more of the accolades for how good that one was than I think he got (my edits just made it a bit... squishier).
Protocol is much more of a team effort than Archives was and so while, in a broad sense, you can still lay most of the blame for bad things happening to characters you love squarely at my feet, it's genuinely important to pay attention to the "written by" section of the credits this time around, 'cause often it's not gonna be my name there, and someone else deserves the thanks for giving you a horrible treat.
