i never l!fted around parents but i do l!ft around nosey little siblings who would dob me out at a moment's notice (pretty much more perceptive than my parents tbh lol).
i just say "im gonna go look at the (makeup/that shirt/etc.)" and then do what i need to do. try to not let them see you holding whatever you plan to 🏋️♀️ because theyll be sus when you don't buy it with them and they see you with it at home later.
i almost always body conceal, but i would body conceal with parents if you have really nosy ones that go through your stuff. when they see your stuff that you 🏋️♀️ at home, just tell them that your friend got it for you or that you went another time and got it.
overall though, if you are able to, i would avoid 🏋️♀️ around people you don't want to know. it's over stimulating and means you have another person to avoid letting see what you're doing, making it easier to get caught.
• always check for RFID stickers, and if they have them just pick it off discretely while looking at something else. people are scared that they're sometimes hidden in the box, but that has never happened to me (doesn't mean it 100% won't ever tho). i go to all sorts of places (M3cca, s4a, km@rt, m1n1s0, w c0sm3tics, etc.)
• don't conceal immediately (unless no cameras, which most of the time there's always cameras in the makeup/skincare section), but don't walk around forever letting all the sales ppl and lp see you with the product in your hand. they might ask you if you want them to hold it for you at the desk, offer you a basket, and also when it disappears from your hands it's super sus.
• following previous point, i try to never conceal in the makeup section. it's frequently the most surveilled because it's the most st0len from. i always take the stuff to another, less popular, section and conceal quickly. try not to walk back and forward from section to section too many times though, as apparently it's sus (I'm very guilty of this).
• try not to visibly avoid workers. if they stand next to you, don't immediately move. it's a red flag for someone to be avoiding workers (although not the weirdest thing because even when i don't 🏋️♀️ i don't alwayswanna talk to people or be around them).
• you don't need to buy anything. im trying to get rid of the habit of thinking it makes me look "less guilty" because i feel like nothing surpasses just getting in, and out as fast as possible.
• my fav small item conceal trick is the one where you have a long sleeve, and with one hand you reach for the item and once your hand is in the shelf, you use your fingers on the same hand to push the item into your sleeve. you can practice this at home if you'd like! it's good coverage, fast, and simple. just DONT forget that stuff is in there 😭 ive done this so many times where ive been walking or doing something and shit just falls out of my sleeve. i try to "look" for my phone wherever I wanna put the stuff (pockets, bag, whatever) and do a swap where i push the item out of my sleeve the same time i grab my phone. just make sure you're putting your phone first wherever you'd like to drop the item. idk if this is hard to visualise, it's hard for me to explain.
lastly, this is all my experience and opinion, I think one of the biggest thing that makes a l!fter remain uncaught is the ability to think on their feet and adapt to whatever unique situation they're in. i can also be white passing (or so im occasionally told) so know there's some privilege going on that makes 🏋️♀️ easier for me. also, none of this info is applicable to every situation! good luck!
