Also, I should probably explain now that Ricky Whittle was once on Strictly Come Dancing (UK Dancing With the Stars) when he was but a hunky soap star (Hollyoaks, think Sunset Beach) and he was quite good, but still wore open shirts a lot for the ovary/gay vote. And he has notably small nipples. Hence I may call him Ricky Nipples a lot. So there. Now this is a thing you know. (Also he was a cert to win until the week before the final he ran over a paparazzi and there was pearl clutching.)

He said this at the Bard event, after we’d just seen episode one with Bilquis’ first scene which was shown as written. So I believe him.

(on the off chance this sparks discourse don’t delete this caption cos without context it looks like I’m agreeing with this shite). This is genuinely a creepy article? Whatever you think of May, or of the whole Catholic-Protestant thing (full disclaimer: I’m Agnostic Hindu and thus Do Not Care) this is weird and vicious and playing with fire:

May is the daughter of an Anglican Vicar. That’s well known. She’s not Catholic. At all.

She’s never once ID-ed as “Anglo-Catholic”, always as Anglican so how can you just say that? Isn’t that kinda rude, foisting the label on someone without asking?

I swear I’ve seen most christians give up stuff for Lent? I’ve read even the Queen gives up chocolate, and she’s the head of the Church of England, so where is he getting this “symbol” stuff from?

Even if she was Anglo-Catholic, how would that remotely make her a threat to Brexit? Towards the end of the piece he rabbits on about how they can only progress once they break from the pope and like… what the hell has that got to do with this?

Ian Duncan Smith is full Catholic, but a staunch Brexiter (unlike May who Gove argues isn’t a full Brexiter (lol I WISH), why doesn’t this apply to him, then?)

I’m fairly sure we’ve had actual Anglo-Catholics as PM before, so WTF? P sure Blair was one, and it had nothing to do with anything.

I’m still baffled by his reasoning (besides ‘waah this bitch ruined my political career so let me smear her by papism’) for writing this - what exactly is he saying they should do about it? Make her not give up things for Lent?

I've always done Lent, it's definitely a generic Christian thing. I dunno how high church May is tbh. Blair was Baptised Catholic after he left office iirc.

Today I learned that the university of Coimbra in Portugal has a great 18th-century library, the Biblioteca Joanina, that maintains a colony of bats to effectively control the population of paper-eating insects called papirófagos. These bats are less than an inch long. They roost during the day behind the bookcases and come out at night. There doesn’t seem to be any English word for papirófago, a cursory search turns up no details about what sort of insect they are, and ngl I am slightly concerned about them as a phenomenon. But I think my overarching point here is clear:
