@btlwrn if noctis and ravus had never parted ways
@btlwrn / ♥.
and then there was the matter of ravus nox fleuret, a man whom he had known all his life as he had his beloved, ravus’ own sister, though the distance between them in life seemed more than the distance between him and his bride to have been. death seemed triumphant all around him, and the light he had was his to spare, stretched over ten long years reduced to the weight of a moment, come crashing down not around him like the rest of the world, but on his back, and his shoulders, straightening out his posture if only to compensate for this second raiment, only half as decadent and twice as heavy, and nothing to show for it except the added lines on his face, and the pain in his eyes.
‘ ravus... ’ is all he can muster at first, as he had with any of them, but ravus in particular feels like a dream...distant, still coming to terms with all that had ever transpired between them, let alone what had brought them to here and now...the only other person who might have known was ignis, who had stepped aside to make further preparations for his return to the city...he may have felt like he had no home, but there were spirits lurking in the rubble of insomnia, where tenebrae was scarce to have rubble at all. the spirits of daemons, mayhaps, something ravus was no doubt aware of on his own.
so there stood noctis, with ravus opposite him, night and day with a valley between them, but the distance now seemed less than what it was, and in ravus’ eyes he saw lunafreya’s death take place with all the same remembrance as it had all those years ago, and it moved him.
all he could offer was a dead man’s promise, but then again, maybe they were all doomed.
maybe they were always doomed.
‘ i’m here to welcome you home, ravus. ’

I will not say, ‘do not weep’, for not all tears are an evil.
