A Hearty Hello!

Hello and welcome to Forge Fighter’s character blog! He’s a rather brand new character who’s still taking shape, but it’s never too early to introduce the guy! I may use some question memes to help me build the character, I might not. In the mighty words of Yoshi P, please look forward to it.

That said! I am also happily seeking to immerse myself in Sea Wolf lore – more than I already have, anyway. If there are pointers to be had, links to follow and pages to read, please feel free to toss them my way!

Fond Farewells, For Now

Well, ladies and gentlemen, friends and lurkers, I must inform you that Tsubatai Gharl is being shelved for now. Unfortunately, the current setting in FF14 was unable to give me the full range I needed to keep myself invested -- after all, we can’t even go to Othard yet!

Furthermore, as he currently stood there wasn’t much reason for the poor Dirt Lizard to go out and explore, and anything I wanted to do to further his character I could just do in a post or a 1-on-1 RP. That said, this blog isn’t getting deleted, and the character isn’t dead by a longshot! If you find yourself ever curious, you’re welcome to send Tsubatai an ask or a prompt. Also keep a look out, as the new character I’m starting up will soon have his own blog.

As a side note...how did I run up 200 followers? I’m amazed and humbled -- I don’t expect you to stick around as I begin anew, but if you do, I’ll be all the more honored.

Tourmaline: Have you ever had to leave something behind?

“You mean...aside from my homeland, my family, my friends and most of my possessions when I came to Eorzea?” Tsubatai offers a chuckle, meaning the list as more of a joke. He glances over his shoulder, perhaps for effect. “Aside from the obvious, I do not think I have yet had to leave something of physical value behind. As for my self and culture...well. I am trying not to leave such behind, even as I continue to live here.”

Sunstone: Are you a leader or a follower?

“Ah...I am not so much a leader, not in the sense of my homeland. At least, I do not think so. I would definitely be no warlord and definitely no Khan.” The Xaela gives a small nod before looking out for a moment or two.

“Well. As a shaman, had I stayed on the Steppe, I would have had a different sort of leadership to fulfill. And here in Eorzea, as a manager at the Gilded Pony, I am expected to lead those working security, but...I never finished my training proper, and Eorzea is far and away from what is expected of a martial leader across the sea.”

Lapis Lazuli and Obsidian

Lapis Lazuli: Are you good at keeping secrets?

Obsidian: What was the bravest thing you've done?

“I would like to think so! If I know something must be confident, and silent, then I will keep it so -- though I must be honest, if it comes up to the lie and a greater moral, I will take to the moral. Sometimes a secret should not be kept hidden, but the trust of a secret is not something I betray easily or lightly.” Tsubatai says, clapping his hands together with a small, but warm smile. The Xaela keeps his hands together, seeming to consider the second question.

“I am uncertain. I do not know that I have been brave in an...out-of-the-ordinary sense. I certainly think that I pale in comparison to those who face both the day’s tests and inner darkness all at once. I suppose all I have to offer is standing between my brothers and a rampaging bear, back on the steppe, even as the youngest of three. As you can guess, we did indeed survive that day...but it seems as nothing to defend my family, comparatively.”

Emerald: If you could travel in time, where would you go?

“What an odd question! What purpose would there be to traveling in time, truly? If you go forward, you miss the best parts of living, and doing. If you go backwards, how are you to know that what you do alters the past -- or even the present? There is little reason to dwell.” Tsubatai says, though he does give a pause and a light chuckle.

As his laugh fades, the Xaela continues on. “Alright, that is not a fair answer to the question, I will admit. I think if I had to, I might go back, simply to observe. There are many questions to my own life and the life of others, and...I would certainly wish to simply know.”

Blue Lace Agate: Are you easily angered?

“I certainly can be, though I do try not to. There is fire in the blood of the Xaela, and I am no exception. It is generally thought to be a bad omen to answer all slights with such fire, though. It is hardest when someone consistently tests, however, and I will not hesitate if I am dared to move.” Tsubatai reaches up and rubs at one horn momentarily, but he straightens up and gives a quick, assertive nod.

Ametrine: What's a bad habit you have?

“Ah...I used to make a habit of complaining to my wife of the strangeness of this land and its people. It certainly felt...like a relief, if only a little, from the weight of Eorzea’s way of living, but...I suppose I realized that their way of life was close to what Chiyo’s own way used to be, and so it would not do well for me to complain of it.”

Onyx: Do you consider yourself brave?

Tsubatai considers the question for a mere moment before striking a pose – perhaps somewhat dramatically, but from the looks of it, he thought it helped his answer.

“Certainly so! One must be to face each day on the steppe!” He says, finally giving a small grin that falters soon afterwards. “I may not be on the steppe these days, but…surely the lack of danger has not destroyed the bravery I had and needed overseas, yes?”

Crazy Lace Agate: Do you think you're indecisive?

“I would like to think not, but that would not be the whole truth to it. When there is a decision to be made, I am one to think of my course of action. If I am alone, then I simply take that action! This does not protect me from doubt after the fact, though.” Tsubatai takes a moment to think on the question a bit more. “Well...when others are involved I do try to see what they think. I think that I have found that, most of the time, others are more suited for making choices, given that I am a Xaela in civilized lands.”

Aragonite and Moonstone

Aragonite: What’s something you love about yourself?

Moonstone: How do you cope with stress normally?

“I suppose that my usual answer to that first question is that I love my own scales and…the word here is physique?” Tsubatai gives a shrug and a chuckle, but eventually flashes a small grin and a thumbs up! “Truly though, I am thankful for my scales and…what they represent. It is not easy to forget where you came from when the proof is growing on you, yes?”

“As for the second question, such is what sparring and running and other such things are for. Perhaps it is just me, but I am most stressed when I am not doing…much of anything.” The Xaela pauses to adjust the ringband on one hand. “Ah, perhaps such is why I know riding is a good way to unwind – but here, unfortunately, I have no horse.”

⚠ - What has your character almost done that made someone talk them out of or convince them not to do it?

Tsubatai looks off, appearing to think. It’s clearly obvious, however, that he seems somewhat troubled by the content of the question. Eventually, however, he does respond.

“There was a time in which my wife talked me down from going after an Elezen Lord that did not take no for an answer. It was…she was successful, but only for a time. It will be enough to say that the next time I sought to take his life, I could not be stopped.” He states, seeming to become colder as he speaks.

Tsubatai’s Archetype Is...

The defender.

Traits: loyal, selfless, guardian, youthful, honest, unguarded, courageous, basically a gryffindor

The defender is most commonly used to symbolize the motivator, or the helping hand of the chosen one/the main protagonist. they would give their life for what the believe in, and is invested in every relationship they build. friendship means everything to them, no matter how insignificant their interactions were. they are selfless, and caring, and try their best but they can also be ignorant, and insensitive. they will always mean it when they apologize, even if they need to be reminded in doing so, and they love so openly and fiercely, it's heartbreaking. they are often left behind in social situations, but they are the ones that try to include everyone.

Tsubatai is...fairly biased, all things considered. Based purely on aesthetic, Tsubatai looks for a combination of strength, grace and, of all things, a skin tone different from his own. It’s something he appreciates greatly for a reason he’s not exactly able to articulate (other than just “I like it!”). There’s cultural bias, of course, as well, but overall one of those three factors explains Tsubatai’s attractions.
