Peculiar headcanons pt. 3

Okay I was dead, but AMOD brought me back to life. It was sooo good and I can’t wait to reread it, but for now I’m doing some long overdue headcanons so please enjoy!

Extroverts:

Emma

Bronwyn

Olive (She loves when new people arrive in their loop cause new people mean new stories and new stories provide entertainment to an otherwise somewhat boring existence)

Claire (at the moment she is an extrovert, but I think she might grow up to have more introverted tendencies)

Hugh

Horace (Though Horace likes to curl up with a good book, nothing can make him happier than the opportunity to be the life of the party)

Enoch (tbh he’s such a tsundere, I hate calling him that but he is. In AMOD all he did was act like a sassy little bitch for attention cause he loves being the center of it)

Introverts:

Miss Peregrine

Millard (It’s not that this boy dislikes being around people, it’s just that crowds feel oppressive to him and after a certain amount of socializing he needs time to be alone otherwise he feels extremely stressed and frustrated)

Jacob (He has never been a fan of crowds, preferring to keep to himself and even amongst the other peculiars he finds that he still needs a little time to alone otherwise he becomes emotionally exhausted)

Fiona (Large crowds tend to fill her with anxiety, and even around people she knows and loves her preferred method of socializing is one on one)

Drinks tea:

Miss Peregrine (She likes strictly herbal tea, and any tea below warm is disgusting. She also thinks sweet iced tea is an abomination)

Fiona (She likes both herbal and fruity teas, and they could be hot or iced. Honestly she just likes tea)

Claire

Bronwyn

Olive

Horace (After suffering from prophetic dreams he tends to drink more aromatic tea in hopes that it’ll relax him and make it easier for him to go back to sleep)

Drinks coffee:

Hugh

Jacob (Thinks most tea tastes like grass)

Drinks both cause they’re hardcore:

Enoch (He likes coffee better and takes both without sugar and milk cause he wants to look cool)

Emma (Likes both equally, but prefers her tea without any additives. As for coffee she tends to like it sweet with wiped cream on top)

Millard (He likes tea better, but drinks coffee when he really needs to stay awake and focus. Also he likes both his tea and coffee to be on the sweet side)

Morning person:

Miss Peregrine

Emma (She likes to seize the day and making most of it. Emma just has to much energy in her to waste time when she could be pursuing her interests and having fun)

Bronwyn

Hugh

Fiona (Just like plants she loves the sun, it’s warm and comforting to her)

Night owl:

Millard (Sometimes his mind just works too fast for him to slow down and sleep)

Jacob (Even before the ptsd, depression, and insomnia Jacob had trouble going to sleep at a reasonable hour)

Claire (She’s just way too energetic at night to sleep, and she always ends up asking for one more bedtime story. Most of the time she never gets that extra story, but that doesn’t stop her from reading another one to herself)

Olive

Horace

Enoch (Gremlins don’t sleep)

Prefers warm sunny days:

Emma

Bronwyn (She enjoys spending time outside as it allows her to stretch her legs and she doesn’t really have to mind her strength. Rain ruins that opportunity to be momentarily uninhibited so she doesn’t really care for it)

Olive (It’s absolutely no fun floating around outside in the pouring rain. It gets cold, wet, and risks her catching hypothermia)

Hugh (Bees can’t be out in the rain without risking damage, but they also don’t enjoy being cooped up inside so it’s obvious Hugh wouldn’t really favor rainy days cause it would limit his bees’ options)

Fiona

Miss Peregrine (She prefers sun over rain because she never knows when she might need to fly somewhere and rain makes that more than a little difficult and uncomfortable. Also she likes it when the children are able to vacate the house for a while so that she can have some temporary peace and quiet)

Horace (Sun means no mud, and no mud means no ruined clothes)

Millard (Being naked in bad weather is the worst so of course he’d prefer more warm and sunny days)

Prefers stormy days or sweater weather:

Jacob (Prefers sweater weather more than rain, but doesn’t get it much due to living in Florida)

Claire (She prefers to stay inside and rain gives her the perfect excuse, also all the other children would be stuck inside with her so they don’t really have an excuse to not humor her and her games)

Enoch (This kid doesn’t like going outside more than he has to, and if he does have to go outside he’d prefer it be storming so that it matches his edgy aesthetic)

Most likely to get in a fist fight:

Emma (She voluntarily gets into the fight cause she doesn’t put up with other people’s bullshit)

Bronwyn (Voluntarily gets into a fight if someone is threatened, but wouldn’t just start one out of nowhere)

Hugh (Would voluntarily get into a fight if someone was threatening him or his friends, but would also probably start a fight on accident if he got really pissed)

Enoch (Listen to literally anything he says and tell me someone wouldn’t try to deck him right then and there. His biggest talent is just pissing people off tbh. Also he’d lose cause he’s actually twelve)

Jacob (He wouldn’t start a fight, he’d only get violent if someone was threatening him or his friends. He also likely wouldn’t win a one on one physical fight cause he doesn’t have any technique or experience)

Millard (Only gets into fights if it is absolutely necessary, people are being threatened, and there isn’t anyone more qualified to do it. Also loses cause he has absolutely no experience fighting and he physical strength isn’t exactly what he’s known for)

Most likely to actually win the fist fight:

Emma (This girl is a straight up badass who knows her way around a good ole’ fist fight)

Bronwyn (I don’t think I really need to explain why she would win)

Hugh (He’s a strong guy who knows how to defend himself properly)

Hopeless romantic:

Emma (She’s always had certain expectations of a relationship, like it’ll last forever, or that there won’t be bad times, and when she falls she falls hard. This does not mean she’s dumb though. Emma is smart girl who likes to dream, but when the time comes she can make important rational decisions)

Millard (Okay this boy is really pessimistic about his chances at a romantic future, but he dreams about it a lot. He wants to do all the stereotypical romantic stuff like going to the movies, building pillow forts, and just simply laying there and talking the night away. He just really wants someone who will love and cherish him for who he is)

Hugh (This guy probably wants to do all the cliché romantic things with and for Fiona. Bring her flowers, check. Take her on a picnic, check. He literally wants to do anything and everything romantic for his girl, he’d honestly give her the world if he could)

Romantic realist:

Miss Peregrine (She’s not one to prioritize her romantic feelings, if anything they come last on her list of worries. The moment she found out that she was an ymbryne she knew that romance was the least important aspect of her future), and even still she sees it that way)

Fiona

Jacob

Bronwyn (She thinks love will happen if it happens, but she does not actively seek it out or think about it much. Crushes don’t come easy to her and most fizzle out within a day or two, she’s only ever had two real crushes in her whole life)

Not romantic at all cause they’re legit little kids and are too young for that:

here’s a thing

I think the reason it’s hard for most fans of the Miss Peregrine’s book series to even l o o k at the Miss Peregrine’s movie is because of not only how far from the book it is, but also how very little accurate it actually is. They took parts, not even the best parts just parts, and left the rest in the trash. They scooped, dug their dirty hands through the artwork and pulled out what could barely support a film. The idea of a loop, but on the wrong date. Our heroine Emma Bloom, minus the fiery anger that drove and flawed her. Our beloved children, minus any sort of personality or character besides “happy!”, “fashion!” or “angry!”. And to keep the falling apart film together they taped it with random bonds or additions that even within the world of the film wouldn’t make sense. The choice to age up characters only raises the argument that their needed to be a balance, but, why then, were other characters aged down? You had balance between the children, bonds could form within the group that actually made sense and added to each other’s character. Bronwyn’s relationship with the young children made her seem soft and motherly and loveable. Something along the same lines can be said with Enoch, and even though this is (barely) present in the film it almost was presented as an original idea, like two different characters pocessing the same characteristic or attitude. The relationships between Hugh and Fiona or Enoch and Olive are a perfect example of this. When they found a hole in their plot, the empty space were the now dead relationship between Hugh and Fiona lied, they filled it with the only other two characters that pocessed the same age. This relationship doesn’t build the characters at all, Enoch was already shown to have a “soft side” within context of the book without this relationship, and it seems the Olive character takes nothing from it other than showing she can be bossed around and maintain a toxic relationship, which are not good character traits one wants to portray in what was once Olive Abrholos Elelpanta; a spunky little girl that was often loud and happy, not to mention hopeful.

In conclusion, the resentment most fans feels comes from a place of confusion towards the decisions of the director and staff and anger at the useless changes while still maintaining the most arbitrary choices. It’s as if we’ve all collectively joined in to support, create and enjoy a piece of art, only for it to be stolen, “remade” while missing most of its key parts, and taped together with random pieces and slapped an unjust name upon. Perhaps most fans can enjoy these new parts, and I must say in the context of the movie some can be enjoyable and tolerable, but I can only wonder how it would’ve faired if the tape wasn’t needed. If the book was savored by the created of the movie, if they took in every detail and relished in it as we tend to. It’s flaws, it’s strengths. It’s characters and plot. And so, to the creators of the Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculair Children movie, I ask why you decided to create something for a book you clearly did not enjoy? There was no spark, no passion. The characters were faces that could be drawn, slapped on merchandise and easily cosplayed as. Perhaps the effects were good, perhaps the acting or the cinematography. But the story, the characters and plot were a collage of something stolen and something borrowed from countless upon countless tropes. And because of this, I believe myself and people like myself will never be able to fully enjoy this film. To take what we cherish, what we love and to break it on the floor and glue it together is no gift, and never will be one. Others may enjoy, and good on them, but I wil never ever forget the beautiful and original book that touched my heart, and the movie that punctured it.

if someone close to you is disabled, you have to take that into account when you go places with them. you have to think about accessibility, fatigue, pain, flare ups, etc because its exhausting and hurtful when people who say they love you dont bother putting the effort in to make sure you ACTUALLY have a good time.
