Petition to incorporate Zombie Jamboree as a halloween song

Zombie Jamboree (aka Jumbee Jamboree)

i was exposed to henry belafontes rendition of zombie jamboree from season 2 of pen15; and lemme tell ya....your girl is OBSESSED. so many thoughts and opinions. 

The henry belafonte cover of zombie jamboree is straight up classic banger; giving me those 50′s/60′s mashup vibes of big jazz band meets early classic rock with the polynesian marimba shimmer on top. idk if any of those words make sense outside of my brain. lyla said it reminded her of beetleguise, which makes sense because henry belafonte sings Banana Boat (Day-O). 

but then i went a digging. you got the acapella version of Zombie Jamboree with the GrooveBarbers, you get this folksy rendition from the Eloise Trio (which actually might predate the Henry Belafonte cover) and we dig even deeper with the OG song which everything is based off of Jumbie Jamboree. ALL STRAIGHT BANGERS THO: 

Jumbie Jamboree  with vry light research i find that all zombie jamboree covers are based off of this bad boy. the spotify version is by King Selewa annd His Calypsonians, but the wiki says its a calypso song with trinidad origins. which makes sense because almost all versions of the song talk about calypsos and kingston. and according to legend (wiki) jumbies were evil spirits that caused people to dance wildly 

Zombie Jamboree: The Eloise Trio  I can find nest to nothing about the Eloise Trio online, their spotify album is a lot of folksy/caribbean vibes of songs/covers. They did La Bamba which was the only song i recognized. Eloise from the band was born in Jacksonville FL, in 1935 and broke a lot of barriers by being a strong female performer. but mainly she would perform in the bahamas. This cover just hits a special spot, vry good. we see the lyrics keep it pretty similar to Jumbie Jamboree, keeping the cemetery in kingston (vs refrencing manhattan) only hitting with the first verse and keeping the banging chorus. short and sweet and amazing 

Henry Belafonte  as stated before: total banger, but those lyrics go BANANAS towards the end. we see the first refrence of a NEW YORK cemetery, but somehow we still get the line of ‘great calypsonian’ ‘season was carnival’ starts off pretty normal, but towards the end Henry B is talking to brigite bardout?? how she needs to wear earrings to stave off horny kansas men? and then he is pleading to the world and the audience of how we shouldnt go into an atomic World War III?????? like holy hell..... love it but def is serving the johnny cash bones song from tim robinsons I Think You Should Leave Now. Great Beat, Bonkers Lyrics 

GrooveBarbers:  just an all around great acapella cover. we still see the new york cemetery refrence. but none of Belafontes anti-war pleads. but we do get an extra helping of new york refrences. they give you zombies from times square to statue of liberty. even a KING KONG zombie on the empire state building. if i saw a barbershop quartet performing this on a street, i would def boogie and try to leave some cash. but i also understand acapella isnt for everyone

2019 im ready to grow

THIS year has been such a whirl wind for me and it had so many down periods but i think it’s helpful to reflect on all the highs and how much i’ve GROWN! the past few years I’ve just felt really stagnant and its been easy for me to sweep all my shit under a rug of “well i’m young its ok to fuck up” but I feel like i haven’t had a year so productive in a long time (like maybe my first year at college?) and HERE WE GO: 

TRAVEL! went to nashville to see peeps, CT a few times (not enough tbh) where i got to hang with core hot lib friends for my bday and jukebox the ghost!!! COSTA RICA CHICA GANG!!! spent a week in georgia with missy and her kids, went to ohio to be seth’s plus one at a kickass wedding! went to sacramento for my annual lyla trip (the two weeks was perfect and exactly what i needed) NOT to mention i got to finally do an adult girls trip to disney!!!

SEX LIFE! started 2019 emerging from this sexual cocoon, feeling like i’m leveling up in sex life and my experiences. daddy david def opened me up to this kinkier side of myself, and even though the sex was dripping with excitement, maybe not the most emotionally healthy for me. had some more jaw dropping sex with the snake that also wasnt super emotionally healthy for me (tbc) I had a lot of group sex this year! and some of it wasnt super awesome but a lot of it was! I met some amazing couples and explored healthy sexual dynamics with open communication! i had a lot of sex with some ladies this year too!!!! not all of it was great (some of it was borderline nonconsensual) but exploring that part of my sexuality was really cool, and a nice opening for the future. i got a CUCK! i bought a strap on and pegged some bootyholes and explored more of my dominant side, which was really cathartic and helpful for personal growth. had some random nice bois mixed in this bunch and realized that i DO crave intimacy during sex and its not a bad thing! you can have intimacy during sexual encounters without getting swept up in a “WHERE WILL THIS GO?!” desperation. just taking a moment to enjoy moments for what they are

EMOTIONS! OOF to the oof city me dudes! but also i do have to take a step back and be proud of myself for the growth i’ve made this year, even if most of the growth was achieved towards the latter end of 2019. A lot of unhealthy choices were made even though I knew better. but sometimes you just need a catalyst to say enough is ENOUGH. the snake was def a huge part of my unhealthy lifestyle. but knowing that that chapter of my life is over and the snake is DEAD is so uplifting. not only cutting off sex with the snake but realizing that i can’t be friends with it either. which was hard because i hate cutting people off but i have to put myself first and not waste emotional energy on people who can’t reciprocate hoping that they will. my emotional breakdown of november 2019 taught me that i cant use weed to be complacent with the things I’m upset about in my life and that this lobster needs to break out of her shell and grow a new one. I GOT A THERAPIST YALLLLLL!!!!!!!!!! and even though i had to break down and sob on the phone with my dad to help me get one, it taught me that it’s ok to lean on my parents for emotional support. I’m so fortunate to have a supreme support system from friends and family and that it’s ok to use them (and other healthy outlets) to deal with hard times. I really connected with a lot of friends during my down period and talking to them and realizing they’re dealing with the same stuff was so amazing. I love all of them and i’m so freaking proud of each of their journeys!!!! seeing them grow as people and knowing that we’re growing together is so rare but so reassuring. I’m so appreciative that most if not all the close people in my life support and accept my lifestyle <3  

GOALSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! new years resolutions can be dumb and overwhelming so here’s some random ass goals i want to achieve in 2020. 1) i really want this to be the year i hardcore pursue comedy; idc if its stand up or sketches or a podcast. I just want to say that i gave it a fucking good hard try because I’m not afraid to fail anymore and i feel like my mental health is at a better state than its been. 2) NOT using weed or other vices to cope with hard times. not 86′ing them completely but not using them daily. 3) COLOMBIA!!!!! im going for at least 2 weeks 4) taking a step back from sexual or overall experiences and if I realize something is unhealthy for me i need to STOP it, no more of using my age as a validation for getting away with dumb shit 5) this one may be rough but I really want this to be the year that I give up nicotine 6)keep continuing loving and connecting with all my friends. making hard efforts to see EVERYONE in 2020, because the year is clear and so should my intentions to travel and see everyone 

2020: NO MORE SNAKESSSSSSSSSSSS

the plot line of my life has been an angry drunk toddler scribbling for the past 6 years and i cant tell if im learning or if its getting better and watch it be that the big picture of my life has actually been a picasso. im going to go through all this angst and watch me die before i’m even able to relish in the masterpiece.
