springtail eating a salad
The springtail appears to be lying flat on the chair staring into space while holding a fork halfheartedly to the salad hoping it will eat itself somehow, and this is also how I eat a salad

Macro photographs of butterfly and moth wings (2017) by: Linden Gledhill

Picnic table jumping spider hopes you’re having a good day
Springtail feet. Send post
Onychiuridae with 10x microscope objective. Much fun! These are crops even though the original field of view is less than 2mm.
Had a nice weekend taking the Monstrosity to my favorite park in the city for springtails. Evenings at the beach for low tide (some pics from that later) and afternoons looking for springtails and mites in a wet area in the woodland.
The Neanurid may be Morulodes, but I’m not certain. The glob is some species of Ptenothrix. Not sure who the insect is.
Maybe I’ll stick to stills photography lol
endemic large green stonefly / Stenoperla sp. that we encountered while out with the mothing group :-)
Here are a few more friends I met in the leaf litter!
A few springtails found during the field test of the updated Monstrosity, my microscope objective ultra macro lens based on designs widely used in the studio for focus stacking.
This isn’t necessarily the easiest or best way to get into high magnification photography; I know many people who use commercially built 5x macro lenses and that’s much easier and not that much more expensive unless you already own most of the equipment to build something like this. It’s just the route I happened to take and I have fun with it! I’m very satisfied with my field tests and looking forward to spending more time crouching in the leaf litter pointing a giant lens at tiny guys.
I have some mites and pseudoscorpions too, but I still have to spend a bit more time masking out dust on my backgrounds before posting those… 😅
ms paint cicada, trilobite beetle, and mantis <3
Velvetworm, Ooperipatellus viridimaculatus, Peripatopsidae, New Zealand
Like all velvetworms, this species is a nocturnal ambush predator that subdues its prey by squirting glue-like slime from glands near the mouth to entrap it.

last night we went mothing with the moth people and their light/sheet for the second time for their moth diversity project (last time we went was last year which is what got me into mothing) and it is so crazy for me to be able to join a group of like 5+ people that i don’t know and feel comfortable enough to unmask even slightly but the moth people make me feel safe we are all just excitedly clambering over moths together for three hours in the middle of the forest at night going OOOH WOWWW SO COOL !! SO PRETTY !!!! CATCH THAT MOTH DONT LET HIM GET AWAY !!!AAHHHH HES ESCAPING !!! etc….
The best thing about invert “fandom”
Ok so the BEST thing is the neat bugs they share, but this is up there
oh what have i been up to lately uhh well you know… identifying and befriending the local moths… and other things…
Your version of a good day can evolve over time too, and that’s okay. 💛
saw a bug
You think I’m doing a bit but for serious I used to wake up every morning and think “nothing good will happen to me today” and now I wake up and think “today I might meet an interesting bug” and it changed my life so much.
Metatrichia vesparium and a springtail
by Alison Pollack
This keeps coming up in my tags (probably bc it’s gorgeous) and every single time, I initially think it’s concept art for a game, anyway I will play the imaginary game that this is concept art for
ps Ptenothrix sp I think?
