The implementation of student projects is a special feature that UC Irvine holds. Last school year, the “Before I Die” wall (started by David Ly Khim, Francis Cailles, Jesse Oduro, Justin Ho, Kendrick Wang, and Tim Casasola) was a huge hit amongst fellow anteaters, with the intentions of inspiring them to follow their dreams. This quarter, The UP Lab brought another project to campus – the “Looking Up” Project.
In light of Thanksgiving, The UP Lab started the “Looking UP” Project (idea pitched by Victoria Wang) to give students the opportunity to show appreciation for anyone who has made a positive impact on their lives. Students wrote names on different colored arrows with captions like “_____ inspires me,” “_____ gives me hope,” “_____ is my hero,” and “_____ saved my life.” Students then pinned the arrows to three large bulletin boards in the shape of the letters “U” and “P” and an up arrow.
By the end of the week, anteaters definitely showed that they had a lot to be grateful for.
