And while I’m still on my Rodrina soapbox

I feel like people are forgetting that both movies (Mean Girls and DOAWK) are VERY different. One is told through the POV of a sixteen year old girl and the other is told through the POV of a twelve(?) year old boy. People who are saying that Rodrick is manipulative and evil like Regina might just be looking through a nostalgia lens. Greg is an unreliable narrator telling the story of his life with an older brother who is just doing what older siblings do: Pick on their younger siblings and fight with them. My brother and I are six years apart (me being the oldest) and he and I have VERY different memories of growing up together. I thought we were super close, even though we fought a lot, and he said that he always loved me as his sister but that I was really quite mean to him. Now as adults we’re extremely close.

All of this to say, I don’t think Rodrick is Regina George level evil. I think he’s just an older brother who was perceived as evil by his younger brother. This is why I actually ship him with ~reformed Regina George~ at the end of Mean Girls. There’s no doubt in my mind that she probably still wouldn’t really give him the time of day at first, but in the end realize that he’s a big dork who’s just head over heels in love with her. Very much a “he fell first, she fell harder” type of ship.

Also, while I do agree that Regina could be seen as queer, it’s never explicitly stated or implied that she is in the movie. I think people who are angry that she’s being shipped with a man are exhibiting really weird behavior bc at the end of the day, they’re FICTIONAL CHARACTERS. My head canon is that they’re both bisexual lol. That being said, Rodrick is NOT gender bent Janis lol. The only thing they have in common is their alt fashion choices.
