The Radov family had never been a happy one. A drunkard for a father, a detached mother, and three restless offspring who were constantly caught petty thieving out of hunger and want. They were strange, resembling wild little beasts. But no one ever imagined that their eldest, Jacob, would lose his mind, kill his father out of the blue, and burn the house down. The entire village was shaken.

What could have driven the boy to do such a thing? Perhaps he had no reason at all. Or, perhaps, the reason is so terrifying that not one of the three would reveal it, even under torture.

But I swear, I have never seen a gaze like the one with which they watched the smoldering ruins of the house containing their own father’s corpse.
