Might be too other-fandom pilled to do more with this, but. Carl took over my brain for today’s quick writing sesh and I realized this part was a true drabble, so.

One human life is priceless. Billions of human lives are worth more. That’s before anybody mentions the animals. Carl’s heard the lectures. Blah blah ecosystems blah blah. He hates mosquitos, but they’re part of the planet he’s sworn to save.

One life for billions. Easy math. He made the right call.

After, Carl visits his mother. He sits on her sofa and watches the news replay the launch. He eats her home cooking and mows her grass while there’s grass left to mow.

He slaps a mosquito then stares at the blood smeared bright across his palm. His eyes burn.
