Lorcan was born Oct 25,1542, his parents were humble servants who worked for the wealthy. His mom was a chambermaid to a duchess. His father is the head stablehand of the family. They met not long after his mother moved from her homeland in Ireland to seek a better life in England and his father fell madly in love with her on sight. The two were endlessly flirting and not long afterwards did his father ask for her hand in marriage. It was difficult at the time with a war happening across the nation but they managed to have a simple catholic wedding ceremony and not a year later his mother was pregnant with his older brother. Lorcan didn’t come along for another two years after his sister who was born a year after his oldest brother. During the time his mother was pregnant with him their father was called into the civil war plaguing the country. It was during this that his father was killed and his mother was left to raise two toddlers and about to give birth to a third baby. Devastated by the loss of her husband, his mother left the manor and seeked out her family back in Drogheda, Ireland. A few months later, Lorcan was born and his mother became a handmaiden to a young girl from a wealthy Ó Maoláin family. She worked with them all of Lorcan’s childhood and his brother and sister worked with the family once they became old enough to work. His brother worked in the stables while his sister helped their mother with caring for the young lady of the house. Lorcan would start helping in the kitchen at the age of 7. He would bring in pails of water or baskets of vegetables or fruits. Fetch firewood for the stove as well as clean up dishes and pots after meals. He also became close friends with the children of the house and they seem to take pity on him and his siblings as they were poor compared to them. Lorcan would become particularly close to the youngest member of the family. Fionn Ó Maoláin. They were close in age to Lorcan being just a year or so older. The two boys became thick as thieves as Lorcan would show him games he and his siblings played in the village with the other children and Fionn would share his sweets and toys with him. They got into a fit of trouble more times than Lorcan can count. Fionn also taught him how to read and shared what he learned in his lessons.
As the children grew older, they started to drift apart. Except Lorcan and Fionn. In 1565, The boys both decided to join a skirmishes between rival clans as Fiona thought it would be to prove to his family he was a man. Lorcan wasn’t so keen on the idea but wasn’t about to let Fionn do it alone. Lorcan had grown to love Fionn more than just a friend but he was too scared to say anything to Fionn as it was “frowned” upon to like a man when you are one yourself. He thought if they were together eventually he will work up the courage to tell him. He was not prepared for what was to come for the boys. It wasn’t until that time that Lorcan knew what true loss was.
During that time, at only 23 years old, Lorcan had no idea what death was until he found comrades laying dead or dying on the ground around him. It was the first time that Lorcan had fear eat at him as he listened to shouts and screams of the dying and those terrified. He fought alongside Fionn for what felt like an eternity but only suffered minor injuries. The exhaustion was getting to the boys and it wasn’t until nearly the end of the fighting did tragedy strike. Fionn was saying how the moment they got back home they would drink and eat and fuck until they didn’t know what what day it was, Lorcan told himself in that moment that he will tell Fionn how he felt. The fear of him rejecting him is bright in his chest. But, he would rather have him know then forever hold it inside and regret never telling him. Fionn joked about Lorcan finally settling down and giving his maman the grandbabies she wanted. Lorcan told him to rot in hell jokingly as if he would have any children. They were resting with the others in their ally when they were ambushed suddenly during the night.
Lorcan had been fetching firewood for the dying fire pit when the sound of shouting and clashing of swords rang in the night. Dropping his pile of wood, he sprinted back to camp and found them engaged in a small battle. Pulling out his sword Lorcan joined in on the fighting. He fought his way to finding Fionn who was engaged with a rival who was much larger than him. Lorcan tried to join him but was sideswiped by another rival, the sharp sting of a blade slicing his skin caused him to nearly drop his sword. Turning, he fought the man but his mind was elsewhere as he worried about his friend. He heard a shout of pain and looked over quickly to see Fionn grabbing his stomach. He was then kicked in the chest and the young man went sprawling. He tried to scramble away from the approaching man, Lorcan jerked back nearly missing a blade to the face as his opponent got his attention again. Cursing soundly, Lorcan fought off his opponent and just as he killed his first man and the feeling didn’t settle as he was filled with fear for Fionn, he turned to see that Fionn was staring up at his opponent with terror in his eyes. He turned his head at Lorcan’s scream and gave him a small smile. Seconds later, the man plunged his sword into Fionn’s chest.
The horror of seeing his best friend and first love cut down, triggered a rage so deep and raw Lorcan didn’t know what he was doing until he stood panting over the body of the man that killed Fionn. Blood covered him and he blinked the red from his eyes as he panted heavily staring at what remained of him. A weak cough got his attention and ignoring the fighting around him, Lorcan ran to Fionn’s side and pulled him into his arms. The grief was unbearable as he stared down at his friend. It was like his heart was ripped out of his chest and shredded to pieces. He was not going to be able to grow old with Fionn or even see him have his own family or even possibly with him. He didn’t realize he was sobbing until Fionn with a shaky, bloody hand touched his cheek and called him a crybaby. He told him to live on for the both of them and to not mourn him as it was sad to see a grown man cry. Lorcan sobbed harder as his friend took his last breath. Lorcan didn’t remember the rest of the battle as it raged on around him and eventually the rivals were defeated. Lorcan stayed with Fionn’s body until he was stiff with death, he refused to let anyone else attend his body and he personally took Fionn’s body back to his family.
His return was not met with happiness or celebration. The family accused Lorcan for dragging Fionn into his ploys and fired his mother and siblings. His mother never blamed Lorcan for Fionn’s death nor was she upset about being fired saying she could get work elsewhere. His siblings were not as forgiving as his sister was madly in love with the eldest son of the Ó Maoláin family and the two had planned to wed. Now, the family was not accepting her because of Lorcan’s involvement in Fionn’s death. His oldest brother was bitter at losing his apprenticeship with the head stableman and would have to look elsewhere for work if anyone accepted him. Lorcan didn’t blame his siblings for their bitterness towards him as he blamed himself for Fionn’s death. Years go by and Lorcan worked at inns learning the trade, his sister secretly married the Ó Maoláin boy and they moved away to live their life and his brother was able to find a decent job as a blacksmith in the nearby village.
One day after work, Lorcan had worked later than normal as a rowdy crowd was celebrating a birthday and the innkeeper decided to keep the drinks flowing for the paying customers. Lorcan arrived home to find no candle light burning which his mother always kept lit for him. He approached the front door to find it slightly ajar, fear filled him as he pushed the door open and the sight he saw threw him back to the battle that took Fionn’s life. There was furniture thrown around and blood everywhere. He walked further inside and found his mother’s body. She seemed to have tried to fight with the intruder but in the end was defeated. Lorcan didn’t realize at the time the bite marks on his neck. He ran to her side to see if she was alive though it was clear that she wasn’t. A noise deeper in the house got his attention, he stood as he pulled out a small knife from his belt. His fear and grief blinded him to what truly stood in front of him. He didn’t have time to react before he was attacked. A sharp pain in his neck had him dropping his knife and his knees going weak.
Lorcan didn’t remember much about the attack, only that he woke to the taste of blood in his mouth and the sting in his neck. He barely registered the change in his body as he noticed his mother’s corpse not too far from him. He held her in his arms as the sun slowly rose, too lost in his grief to realize his skin was prickling with the danger of the approaching light. It wasn’t until his brother opened the door and let the morning light in that Lorcan got his first taste of his cursed life. The sizzling burn of his flesh had him scrambling deeper into the home to get away from the sun. His brother, horrified, fled back into the town and Lorcan hid himself until nightfall and fled into the night as the hunger for something more than food consumed him. That day was the last day he ever saw his family and the last day he was human.
A century goes by and Lorcan survived at first drinking from homeless or drunk people and he hid away during the day and hunted at night. He cursed the vampire who turned him and wished he had just drained him like his mother. Lorcan didn’t have anyone to teach him how to be a vampire he had to learn the hard way. He was at first disgusted with the idea of sucking blood but eventually enjoyed it to the point of being a glutton. His spent years drinking and fucking to his heart content. He would become careless at times leaving bodies behind to be found and eventually he would have to move on to the next village. He kept his promise to Fionn to live for both of them and so he drank and ate and fucked everyone and anything. He never stopped looking for his sire and eventually found out the whereabouts of them, he would learn that going to the location he thought he would find his sire would change his life forever. Instead of finding his sire who was never at the location he learned later. He insteaded ended up meeting Devin Khan, the woman who changed his life.
She was the one who taught him to live life one step at a time and in return he gave her his complete loyalty and helped her during her darkest times. He was more cautious about his drinking and tried to avoid drinking humans and opted for supernatural beings. He didn’t lose his party lifestyle and only contained it a bit more as he traveled with Devin to all parts of the world enjoying everything it offered. It was the first time in a long time that he actually felt alive again.
As the centuries went by and the world changed around him and when Devin decided to return to New York, he decided he would return with her as he had no one else he wanted to be around and when she opened her club, Sinners he helped her manage it. Lorcan never forgot about his sire and daily mourned his family and his first love who died so violently at a young age.
