PlayStation MAX #1, January ‘99 - news on 'Indiana Jones’ on the PlayStation.
Mr. Whippy is his name now.
Have you used Shuckle?
Yes, and would again
Yes, and might again
Yes, but wouldn't again
No, but would when possible
No, but might use them
No, and will not use them
I don't remember, but would
I don't remember, but might
I don't remember and will not
I will use Shuckle whenever given the opportunity for they are my favorite.
Imagine, if you will, an Easter special about the crucifixion of Jesus Christ but done by Rankin-Bass. It could follow Jesus and his apostles from the Last Supper to his emergence from the tomb on Easter but be done with fun extra characters and filled with almost catchy songs.
I'm sure it could be done now, but I would specifically want the stop-motion wizardry they had at their disposal. That exact vibe of their specials, especially the second-tier ones that weren't quite as good as their major ones. You could also just do it full animated, like "Frosty the Snowman."
Did adult Jesus ever appear in any Rankin-Bass specials? Baby Jesus was at least a plot point in a few of them but did we ever see adult Jesus or did they just stick to the Easter Bunny?
Make this Easter weekend special for all your relatives by drawing or finding human-made art depicting the Easter Bunny passionately making out with Jesus Christ and then showing all your relatives how Christian and Pagan traditions can be merged with love and understanding.
Bonus points if you find fun holiday-themed ways to segue into showing them. During a viewing of "Passion of the Christ" smile knowingly and say, "I know about Christ's passion." Then show them your treasure. It will help alleviate what, by all accounts, is an absolutely grueling cinematic endeavor.
For those celebrating other holidays, or no holiday at all, do what you feel is right. This isn't your burden. You have a lot of other things to deal with but you can almost certainly vent some frustrations creating and showing art to those who do celebrate Easter.
It would have been higher had I not been forced to use my phone screen to control it. Also if I hadn't messed up.
I got a text from the plumbing business set up for the first Super Mario Brothers movie suggesting I add this contact. Does this mean my beloved ROB is going to be in the movie?
I cut open a red pepper and found this. I suspect it's a pepper that started growing inside the other pepper, but aren't sure.
I drew these for work but they were deemed "too dark for patients" and I can't imagine why.
#024 - Learnin' 'Bout Lore Stuff With Juancy: The Embodiments
The placement of embodiments in that third panel does not denote any sort of moral leaning, save for the Stupid and O-Prime who, obviously, are evil and good. Most of them are okay enough, it's their agents you have to look out for…
Anyway, that's it for this issue! Hopefully I'll be back with the next one quicker this time!
My girlfriend and I have been spending the past few months watching the Hayao Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli films (with some outliers) and about a month ago we watched The Cat Returns. It's important to note that with most of these we did minimal research, usually content with the barest description of characters or plot, and so when we watched it we were unprepared for how charmingly strange it turned out to be. A week or so ago, we watched Whisper of the Heart, which we found out was where the titular cat of the other film was returning from, and so we were prepared for some sort of fantasy adventure where the main character would join up with Baron on some quests and the cover of the movie doesn't dispel this fact at all. I would go so far as to say that the marketing sort of promises such a thing.
It turns out that while Baron is in the movie, most of the time he's simply a statue except for brief scenes where the teenage protagonist is writing a story about him. Most of the movie is, in fact, about said protagonist trying and failing not to get a crush on this one boy she meets and then falls so deeply for she writes a novel for him. A cute movie, but not at all what we expected. Baron's friend Muta/Moon is also in this movie but never talks even though there's at least one scene where it seems he's going to be introducing the protagonist to lands of amazement and wonder and cats but actually just goes to bother a dog.
Anyway, we have one movie left (we're pretty sure) and that's The Boy and the Heron which damned well better have a good helping of heron in it. Other things that have surprised me about Miyazaki movies: -Totoro is, in fact, a neighbor of the main characters -Tales of Earthsea has far fewer dragons than one might think and far more plowing -Miyazaki seems to gravitate towards stories involving curses and/or ships of various kinds. Also pirates. -A lot of the American dubs have comedic actors in more serious roles and it's interesting to see how well they do
The Boy and the Heron seems to be a divisive one, but watching it as Miyazaki passing the animation baton to the next generation of creatives, I really enjoyed it. Have you seen When Marnie Was There?
We did watch it and I did like it. It hit a good balance between silly and sincere and evoked a lot of the locations of his other films.
I haven't seen that one yet, no.

Do you remember the first RANDOM* shiny Pokemon you've found?
Yes (tell me :V)
I think so? Maybe? (tell me anyway :V)
No :(
I've never found a random shiny
I don't play pokemon
*by random i mean non-scripted, not hunting for it actively, you're just wandering around in any game and you just found it somewhere
(tell me the game too, not just the pokemon :V)
edit I'm muting this I didn't expect this to get attention where did all of you come from /silly
The first shiny Pokémon I saw out in the wild was in Pokémon Gold. I was sitting in the library after school and playing the game when I happened upon a shiny Tangela. Unfortunately, my attempts to catch it failed and it ran away. I didn't see another wild shiny until X/Y.
Watched a movie with this in it last night.
Some of the cats in the movie walked bipedally. Like this.
It was an extremely bizarre movie.
It's fun when you're working on a task at your job and it reveals a time of great darkness at your place of employment.
There’s a theory that early Europeans started saying “brown one” or “honey-eater” instead of “bear” to avoid summoning them, and similarly my friend has started calling Alexa “the faceless woman” because saying her true name awakens her from her slumber
English has an avoidance register used in the presence of certain respected animals, which sounds fancy until you realize it’s spelling out w-a-l-k and t-r-e-a-t in front of the dog.

Icelandic folklore requires you avoid saying the names of evil whales, otherwise you’ll draw their attention.
Yall have evil whales?
Iceland does! They are the illhveli, literally “evil whales”, and they live to kill you. They love nothing more than killing and eating humans and sinking their ships. Their greatest enemy is the steypireydur (that’s blue whale to you), which is the greatest of the good whales and the protector of sailors.
All evil whales are, well, evil. So evil that if you speak their name at sea, they will hear it and home in on you. So instead you use all sorts of euphemisms for their names. Also if you try to cook their meat it literally disappears from the pot. That’s right, they’re so evil, you can’t even eat them.
They include such types as the hrosshvalur (horsewhale), with big eyes and a red mane and tail. This is probably the best known and most feared of the lot.
The raudkembingur (redcomb) is especially cruel and bloodthirsty even by illhveli standards. If you manage to escape it, it will die of frustration.
Good luck escaping the mushveli (mousewhale) though, it has legs! And will clamber onto the beach in pursuit!
Or what about death from above? The stökkull (jumper) leaps high into the air and pile-drives boats to pieces.
Meanwhile the skeljungur (shellwhale) sits in the path of boats and lets them get wrecked on its shelly hide…
… while the sverdhvalur (swordwhale) slices through boats with its dorsal fin.
The katthveli (catwhale) is relatively harmless though. It meows.
The same can’t be said of the lyngbakur (heatherback), a classic island fish that lets sailors get on its back and then dives, taking them to a watery grave.
The nauthveli (oxwhale) on the other hand specially targets cattle, attracting them into the sea with its bellow before tearing them apart.
How can you avoid all these murderous whales, like the taumafiskur (bridlefish) here? Any of a number of ways, including getting a steypireydur to help. There are substances, ranging from angelica to sheep dung and chopped fox testicles, that they find abhorrent. And you can distract them with loud noises and barrels.
For more, I assure you this link will answer all your questions.

This is also why fairies were referred to as the ‘Good Neighbors’ and why there are so many nicknames for Satan.
The concept of avoidance speech is endlessly fascinating and rife with plot points for writing, but honestly I’m just thrilled about the EVIL WHALES.
The best way to avoid evil whales is to just stay the heck away from the sea. As always, the sea is full of terrors, named and unnamed and unspoken.
People keep telling me about ghosts they know this month. It's only the third. Where is this going?
