best moments in gaming journalism
journalist gets real yakuza members to play yakuza 3 and asks for their opinions on its authenticity
that’s it
highlights:
“What’s with all the fucking gaijin in this area?” “Dude, don’t say that, use gaikokujin, it’s nicer.” “Oh, shit, right. What’s with all the fucking gaikokujin in this area?”
“The breaded pork cutlet bento box is like mega power. More than ramen. That’s accurate.”
all of them start dragging kiryu for his shitty cheap shirt for five minutes
“Shooting people sends a message.” “So does shooting anything.”
(after being told that massage parlors, mahjong, and hostess clubs were cut from the US version) “I feel sorry for the people who bought the American version. SEGA USA sucks.”
S: I don’t know any ex-yakuza running orphanages. K: There was one a few years ago. A good guy. M: You sure it wasn’t just a tax shelter? K: Sure it was a tax shelter but he ran it like a legitimate thing. You know.
my favorite seal is that one that just goes “uuunhh. eggs” and makes fart sounds with his mouth
AAAAAAAAAAAA egg
if you’ve been trained to to dislike yourself for enjoying anything due to years of being told you’re annoying clap your hands 👏👏👏
if I listed out every particular instance that was met with negativity enough for me to stop feeling comfortable talking about it, this comic would be like 50 panels.

Okay so this is so important. Please don’t ignore this post if you think it doesn’t apply to you, because even if it doesn’t, it could be happening to someone you care about. And it may seem like nothing, it feels like it’s nothing for a while but after hearing people say just how boring or dumb something you love is… well, you start to believe it. Before you realise it you find yourself not finishing stories or sentences because there’s a voice in your head saying “shut up, no one cares” and just like that those things you used to love so much lose their spark. They no longer make you as happy as before, everything is tainted and you hate yourself for not fitting in, for not being as interesting as everyone else. Because if everyone says you aren’t then they must be right? But no! It’s not true and you tell yourself that everytime, but it’s not enough. You have to learn to love the things you used to love again.
In my case, I’ve missed out on so many experiences because of this. I had given up trying to make people see the things I like aren’t a waste of time. But I’m slowly trying to claim them back.
So please, if someone you know ever tells you something about them or about what they like please listen to them. Even if you don’t really enjoy the thing they are telling you about, if they matter to you please listen. That simple action could mean the whole world to them.
this is kinda painful tbh
This has happened to me more than once. It's insidious. It's actually most of the reason I have anxiety today. Don't ever, ever make somebody feel like they're annoying you for being passionate about something.

Casual players who are 'intimidated' by competitive play are players that don't spend much money on the game because it's not a game they care enough about to learn to play better, yet it seems they're the ones WOTC wants to alienate serious players (the money spenders) in favor of? TCGs are competitive by nature. The very point of them is to continuously spend money to get better cards so that you can win games. Discouraging players who follow that golden rule is discouraging money spending.
You are perpetuating all sorts of false stereotypes here. There are many different types of Magic players that play for different reasons. High-end Competition is one aspect but it is actually a tiny piece of the overall web of Magic players.
Anybody who says this has never watched a casual player buy 3 packs, then trade in the rares to get more packs, and repeat for like 20 minutes.
I'd like to make a request. An Iron Maiden... but with hands instead of spikes. Think about it.
why even stop there lets keep this awful finger train goin

Orange Cat: [unfriendly/somewhat sharp meow]
Second cat slowly looks at the camera.
Man, filming, bashfully and sounding somewhat frightened: Sorry!
I’ve never fuckin seen a cat move like that, and it feels so goddamn eerie.

Something the Hour of Devastation story did for me, that most of the block storylines really didn’t, is make me actually scared of the villain. Nicol Bolas has always struck me as a kind of cartoony villain, somebody to be the foil to the Gatewatch. These stories really reinforced that no, he does not care about any notions of morality, and yes, he will kill a lot of living, breathing people to get what he wants, in a way that is not dramatic or satisfying, but in a way that crushes and destroys any thought that everything will be ok in the end. That’s a pretty powerful thing, narratively.
